Orihime became emo before Hueco Mundo and right after Soul Society. Before she was just ditzy and happy go lucky sans the stuff about her brother, but even then, by that point she had no reason to cry and whine that Ichigo has no interest in being with a relationship with her outside of being friends. The problem with this is that, like you said, it's established that Orihime cares for others, especially her friends, and yet she just has this annoying selfish thoughts running through her head which makes her character completely different. I mean of course we all knew Orihime has a crush on Ichigo, but to go to this extent and in the process of making her non-ditzy for the entire arc completely is uncalled for.

Seriously guys. Big three discussion is the most boring topic in the thread. Every point has been made a dozen times.
Bad Move reading Rookies so fast i just caught up and I could not regret it anymore. I do hate it when a story is stalled on one big event and you just want it to be over. Just to compare it with OP and its biggest flaw. Waiting on the final two volumes to be translated now. I feel like reading something a bit more straight shounen now.
Diamond no Ace to keep with my baseball theme, award winning and not too many chapters to read.

Orihime's character flaw is that her emotions are highly reflective of Ichigo's despite the fact that Ichigo carries a different burden coupled with a different personality type. Orihime became "emo" because of Ichigo. She saw that he was having plenty of internal struggles and apprehensions towards his own power. This was because of the Hollow inside of Ichigo, of course. When she saw that Ichigo was struggling, she could not seem to let herself be happy while he was going through that. She became emo then, but the Hueco Mundo stuff, and Ichigo being truly afraid of himself, drove that key point even further.
She was happy go lucky prior to that because Ichigo was fine with himself and others. I don't believe that she has ever whined that Ichigo was not interested in her (she was only sad that Ichigo seemed to display more care for Rukia at the time). She cares for all of her friends, but she cares for Ichigo more. And when it comes to Ichigo, not only does she reflect his emotions, she also shows more of her selfish side because hey...that's just realistic.
And I forgot, like Beam said, she felt the impending doom of the aformentioned Yammy+Ulquiorra visit. When two strong ass motherfuckers come through and say "we're killing everyone you love"...and then the person you look to as the strongest of your group (Ichigo) is squashed like a fly by them...you become emo.

Not denying this. The relationship Rukia has with Ichigo isn't necessarily better than the one Orihime has with Ichigo. It is simply fundamentally different. What that particular thing came down to was Orihime's interpretation of these things.
Not to mention, this is just the character development Big One said that we never got...for whatever reasons. Whether it made readers like the character more or less is a different thing entirely...since "liking more or less" is subjective.

I would go with the big sister interpretation of Ichigo/Rukia until Kubo proves otherwise.
@ bold: pretty much since Rangiku basically called her a fool for such an interpretation and cheered her up.
I didn't mind her changes much since we were finally seeing her react and not just having the fluffy exterior all the time (aka we started to see some cracks in the mask).

You don't need to post an essay every time you want to argue a point, it rapidly becomes pointless trying to discuss anything with you on pure volume alone. In the end, all the things you are talking about are still subjective - things are not objectively good or bad, even if you think they are beyond debate. That's idiotic, inherently contradictory and argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.
The assignment of a value of "good" or "bad" cannot by definition be objective. You have no idea what you're talking about and are just covering it up by typing as many words as you can fit in the reply box.

Gotta agree with you here. All indications of Rukia and Ichigo's relationship is that of a familial bond. It makes complete sense. Rukia looks out for him, and teaches him. The relationship of love was like the one that Rukia had with Kaien, of course. I don't see Rukia actually loving Ichigo like that.
Edit: And yeah, I'd agree with the rest of your post too. It was almost if Rangiku was saying "Stop trying to compete with that kind of bond...it just is too different"...it's like when a girl wants a guy to love her more than he loves his sister. It's a different kind of bond, and Rangiku knew that.

That being said, I can definitely see relationship potential between where Ichigo can end up with either girl despite the clearly established sister bond we have now between Rukia and Ichigo. Honestly I'd prefer Rukia IF Juno decides to shoehorn on some romance at the end of the manga. The development is already there so that take cares of one problem

It will be highly ridiculous in any case because, like in many other shonen, Ichigo is essentially asexual for no apparent reason. Essentially any development in that regard would be out of left field at best.
Natsu from Fairy Tail quite literally is more interested in girls than Ichigo. Pretty much any speculation about the issue is just wild mass guessing because Kubo writes Ichigo as a fairly one dimensional character.

I think the problem for me is that My Balls is legitimately hilarious, so it almost justifies the smut, whereas TLR is just straight creepy. There's no real story, just creepy pedo stuff.

I would like to note is that my problem isn't her lack of development in the Vizard arc. There were some very clear moments of progression like the Rangiku scene, which I'm pretty positive was made exclusively for fanservice but it was a solid moment of character interaction and potential development. The problem is more-so in between Soul Society and the Vizard arc. At the very beginning of the Vizard arc, before Ichigo even knew he was part Hollow, Orihime was still emo acting for some reason. To this day, it's never explained what happened to Orihime's personality between the two arcs. Same could be said about Rukia (and that one is a shame cause Rukia never recovered since).
And then Orihime later on in the arc gets abused and pushed around (even though she's held herself up in fights and has no obligation to be there) only for her to show compassion for the Arrancars for god knows what. When someone is abused and enslaved like Orihime was...they usually don't give a shit about anything anymore. Why would she care about the Arrancar?

Because a forum is a place of actual discussion, not just, "I like this, I like that." I'm not sure what to tell you if you don't agree with this. Sure it's fine casually having discussions, but saying something as ridiculous as, "I don't like One Piece's artstyle because it doesn't appeal to me." is regressive discussion when you're typing out huge paragraphs like Haly did, for example.

That is, if you're delusional, then sure, that's exactly what it means. To everyone else however, it's just a simple code of conduct to justify their opinions. Nothing I stated there said that there are factual opinions, or everyone else is wrong. The point is that you can objectively weigh if something is good or bad.
This isn't to say that something is definitively good or bad, but one can use actual reasons to decide if I, for example, enjoyed Bleach; and that's the entire point I'm getting at here.
