Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater |OT| "The world was split into two - HD and 3D."

Is anyone still waiting on their Amazon order to ship? I purchased it last night and they have yet to charge me.

Mine was shipped and delivered today, chose "Release-Date Delivery" when I ordered it on Monday. The shipping was free, but I have Prime subscription.

Amazon also sent me the $10 code already.

Picked it up an hour ago.

Damn, this definitely looks better then Snake Eater in several areas.
The colors are better then the demo, it seems to me.

But yeah, framerate remains the same during cutscenes. Gameplay feels a teeny bit smoother at times, but still slows down where you'd expect it to (or where Snake Eater would slow down).

I also just tested out the Save File thing:
I started a game, went to the first area with guards, then saved.
Then I started a new game, got my backpack, and saved.

It didn't allow me to choose a file. When I restarted, it allowed me to continue where the most recent save was.

So nope, just one save file.

Here are the effects of each choice. I chose Hard difficulty for each:

-"I'm playing MGS for the first time!" prevents you from choosing Extreme Difficulty and gives you Mummy Camo.
-"I like MGS1!" gives you AUSCAM Camo.
-"I like MGS2!" alters the opening cutscene so Snake is wearing the Mask, adds an extra opening cutscene of Snake taking off the Mask, adds an extra radio conversation with Zero and gives you Desert Tiger Camo.
-"I like MGS3!" gives you Flecktarn Camo, Green, and Brown facepaint.
-"I like MGS4!" gives you DPM Camo.
-"I like MGS PEACE WALKER!" gives you Banana Camo.
-"I like all the MGS games!" gives you Grenade Camo.

EDIT: If I missed anything, feel free to share.

No kidding. I placed my order today and it's already shipped too, that's great because I was worried I would have to wait too long before I get the CPP.

Here's the link if anyone else wants to order it, and if you're interested in getting one you better act fast because Gamestop supposedly isn't restocking it before April, and Nintendo might sell out too.

Because the 3DS is not a Playstation controller?

Thanks! I went to gamestop to pick up the CCP and the clerk was really smugged. He said there's no way to get one until April since they were limited.

Edit: I just ordered two in case my brother wants one.

Press and hold R, L, Start ans Select.

kk thanks but FYI it's just Start+L+R

The 3DS doesn't recognize the select button as an individual input, it's hard coded to act as the "start" button. Apparently the only reason they kept it around was for DS BC. Makes you wonder why they didn't just give the devs the option to use it if it's there =\

Mine shipped with release day delivery... But they sent it to the wrong logistics center and it'll take an extra 2 days to get it. Not that big of a deal, since I'm still working through RE:R.

So it sounds like choosing MGS3 is the way to go. What's "DPM" Camo?

Nobody actually liked Portable Ops *rimshot*.

So I played through the Virtuous Mission this afternoon, and the game seems fine to me. Their mouths not synching with anything they say is my one real issue.

I kinda miss the frog noise now that I'm stuck shooting Yoshi, though.

These codec conversations are pretty great.

OH YEAH SNAKE I KNOW YOU'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF ENEMY TERRITORY, BUT HAVE YOU SEEN GODZILLA?!

For those not in the know, Shinkawa worked as a concept artist for Godzilla Final Wars, which came out in 2004, the same year as Snake Eater. Cross promotion there.

Just noticed in the data section that the game will keep track of all the titles you're awarded. Might get me to played it more than once right away.

Alright so game actually seems to look alot better than the demo. Colours are richer and lighting is brighter. I cant tell much of a difference with the PS2 version, but its been a long time since i played it on PS2. The ground textures still look like shit, but I cant remember if they did also on the PS2. 3D is nice, but with all the moving around I shut it off.

Now I need to hunt down a CCP. :(

It's really weird.
Are you sure you saw Portable Ops in the "Choose your favorite MGS" selections, Criminal Upper? Because for me, it's not there at all.

Also, choosing New Game doesn't erase your save file, if anyone's wondering.
Only saving overwrites the save file, or deleting the save file.
You can back out of creating a New Game at any time before starting it (so when you're choosing the difficulty and such).

I could sworn I saw it, but maybe my eyes moved too fast down the list? I wish I could check right now....but...um, on my way home from work...I misplaced my 3DS somehow...

:'(

The Snake Eater song section is really cool in 3D. I'm ecstatic with the game. Between portability, photo-camo, improved textures, sharper contrast, crouch-walking, third person shooting, smart touch screen functionality and really well implemented 3D this game is quickly becoming my favourite 3DS game.

I'm having no issues playing it with the standard controls. Once you have them down the controls work extremely well.

I am really liking the use of 3D in this game! The cutscenes really pop with it. The transition from going from 3D to 2D in FPS aiming mode isn't nearly as bad as some people made it out to be! I thought it was going to be really distracting, but it's handled well. As are the controls in general. I upped the sensitivity to 6 for the camera, and haven't had any problems yet. Very impressed with this game.

I keep having to remind myself that it wasn't long ago that I was freaking out for the release of this game and now I can take it anywhere. Fucking technology man.

I am overall pretty impressed with the game, I thought the audio would sound more compressed given the sheer amount of it they had to fit in, but no, it's great quality just like the original.

On the subject of first person aiming, as others have said the 3D is shut off for everything but melee weapons and the shotgun, but there's one other gun that stays 3D...the EZ gun! And it's for pretty much the same reason I've been saying all along, you need a laser line with a dot like Revelations to keep the depth from being confusing, and that's exactly what it has.

One tip for people: when you roll by double tapping the CQC button, you can't just hold it down to go into a crawl, but if you double tap CQC and then hold the crawl button Snake will roll right into a crawl. Really only viable with the CCP, can't imagine playing without it anyway.

There is one thing about the game that super annoys me, and that is zooming items like the sniper rifle or scope. They give you a tiny slider on the touch screen that is impossible to slide easily. Anyone find any alternate controls for zooming? I can't find any.

I'm using the CPP, and Snake rolls when I press the button once.
But yeah, holding crouch will allow Snake to crawl afterward.

Anyone disappointed that you can't roll through the window in the Ocelot Unit encounter?
I used to do that all the time: shoot the guard outside and roll out of the window, then hide until the roof guard stops looking.

Now I try and the window breaks, but he doesn't roll through it. He can only roll through it if you try a second time.

Oh, I don't know why I assumed I had to press it twice.

Also, you know what, I never noticed that The Boss was Diane the news anchor from Family Guy until just now.

Hey? Somebody's lying/trolling! There's no option for answering "Portable OPs" in the question segment!

Already brought it up. Yeah, looks like Criminal Upper just made a mistake.

EDIT: And apparently there has been some framerate improvements.
When I'm heading toward the beginning swamp with the Indian Gavials, the framerate doesn't stutter as I come up from the hill to see the swamp.
Huh.

That's not the only thing GAF is wrong about.

For one, I'm surprised by how CRISP the cutscenes are in 3D (compared with even MK7 and RE:R)!. Sure, they have minor dips in framerate, but man, I sometimes wonder if it's using some sort of anti-ailiasing during the HALO jump sequence. Also the lighting and some normal mapping effects are night-and-day from the PS2 version. And speaking of the framerate, I'd say it remains 20fps at worst and actually jumps up to 30 on occassion for cutscenes (frame rate remains at around 25-30 for the most part so far). There's some effects being done like depth of field for objects and some motion blur (stuff I'm pretty sure Capcom has also experimented on in 3D) that make it look a bit wierd with the added depth, but everything is sharp and any signs of aliasing are the least noticable for the system.

GAF has been pretty hard on this game, and I'm glad to say they're pretty wrong.

In the mountain area right before the
fight with The Fury
I was getting some really weird FPS drops into the 17/18 area while I was crawling on the ground o_O

I'd hate to see that area if one were to go Rambo up there. Thus far the nastiest drops have been either in cutscenes or when there's some kind of weather effect going on (rain being the usual culprit).

Overall it's maintained a much more consistent framerate than I had originally anticipated.
