Sorry if this sounds too 'Murrican for everybody, but what prompts comments like this? I almost find the strawman mockery of blind patriotism to be as obnoxious as blind patriotism.
I don't disagree, but I think you are extrapolating too far from what we know. America's role in the AC universe is still incredibly limited. Its founding must have had tenable repercussions for both ends of the spectrum. In this case, it's not about the location as a passive actor (like, Italy, or Jersaluem) but the plot, characters, and overall lore is inexorably tied to the founding of the country. But, again, they could literally just focus on the struggles of the Native Americans as a third-party to the warring forces, which, I will concede, is very representative of this series. In so far as the AC universe is concerned, America is nothing more than a medium through which the Templars can attempt to influence and control the masses, and through which the Assassin's can try to protect free will.
All of the emotional connotations and meaning people place on the idea of 'America' is meaningless. Neither group has any political affiliations or ideals. They have acted across monarchies, communist governments, and eventually democracies, and any members of those governments were simply using their positions to pursue the agenda of their group. The country could burn down along with everybody in their political party if that what was deemed best for the cause.
The artwork shows an apparent half native american, half colonist wearing a medieval assassin's hood and robes, pointing something out to George Washington, presumably on a battlefield during the American Revolution.

Serious question, because I don't know if it exists: find another game cover with a huge ass flag of a country behind it. It can be a french game with a french flag, a canadian game with a canadian flag behind it, or a japanese flag with a japanese flag on the cover.

It partially comes from the fact that few people like to waive their flag as much as americans do. I am not being sarcastic or passive aggressive, just saying it's a fairly strong cultural difference. So non-americans, when they see another piece of media with a flag on it, can't help but react with what they culturally associate with flag-waiving, which is usually blind patriotism. I might of course be missing some flag-waiving countries.
To give you an idea, if you ever see a french person put a french flag in front of his house, there are 95% chances he is racist and a far-right supporter.

Well, I agree with the first part of your comment. You can cut through political-correctness with a knife on occasion. Even now, the RE5 zombie thing angers me. But, you also have to realize whatever experience you have had with that sensitivity is often unrepresentative of the general population. Most people just don't give a shit. Vocal minority type of thing; bolstered by spineless political-correctness.I'm sorry, didn't meant to be offensive. But I feel like american people are really sensitive and there's always someone to jump on anything for any reasons. Mass Effect love scene ? RE5 black zombies ?
So in a election period, seeing french based company going all over the most important history event in US history, and probably touching to the holy founding fathers... No, I just can't see this without some Fox News controversy

In this case, though, the flag immediately clues the audience into the setting. In case you haven't noticed, that is not the current American flag.
I fail to see why the fact that the flag is different is relevant. It's still an american flag, and obviously so.
And I am also pretty sure there are many ways to give away the setting without putting a huge flag in the back ground, especially with the super obviously native american character. People are not that dumb. Putting the flag in the background was most likely done to elicit a positive reaction from US gamers, not to clarify something that is obvious at first sight.

It is a very cool looking flag, though.
Shit. At least Constantinapole will be the second worst setting...
Its Washington Crossing the Delaware.
I would love some closer on a couple of things from this game:
1) The truth scene from AC2.Who were Adam/Eve running from? Where were they? etc.
2) The ending of Brotherhood. Why did Lucy have to be killed?
Sounds like something your avatar would sell.I'm glad everyone brought their jump to conclusion mats today.

Underestimate is one word, and that isn't how you spell character.
edit: You were offensive and come of as unintelligent in doing so. Please don't generalize.
This makes me sad. Ubi has no courage it seems.

Yeah, these types of threads where nobody knows anything always just turns into; Optimists vs. Pessimists. I'm having good faith they'll deliver. I enjoyed the AC games -- just got tired of the drawn out setting/characters. And I'm glad they are going the ballsy path and trying something completely different.
People talk about wanting a game that takes place in modern-day, but I've always wanted at least a big chunk to take place back THEN.
1) They explained that already. You can find the answer on the assassins creed wiki.
2) Just released some DLC for Revelations that starts hinting at why. But in an interview with Game Informer (can't remember what issue), the lead writing on Revelations stated that they know the question hasn't been answered yet. It's intentional and they WILL get to the details of why it happened. It's not a matter of poor storytelling execution, it was planned to be left unresolved thus far.

I wonder if the snowy image is a reference to Yorktown. Also, when is the actual reveal for the game?
Because they referenced the most famous painting depicting the historical setting of their game?
Where do you people get this stuff from?
The only thing I'm still waiting for at this point is the inevitable San Andreas-type backlash to a minority main character. Can't relate, don't want to listen to drums and chants the whole game, etc and so forth.
Here is an interpretation of New York in the 1600's from the History channel (sorry for poor quality):

Looks pretty cool to me! Plus the assumption you'll be going to London ect. seems promising.
From this video series:

(shows a lot of what could be in AC3)
Not behind but the cover has a flag bearer, Empire Total War. But it is kinda fitting there since the game is about building /expanding the british empire placing your flag around the world so to speak.
I'll have to read a synopsis of that DLC.
As for number 1, I don't see an article describing why that scene was important, rather just a summary of what happened. I'll take another look though.
I feel the same way, this is that one burning question I have always wanted answered and would love to be able to interact with it.I love the idea of a species/what-have-you that were more evolved than humans but maybe ahead of their time and yet were eliminated somehow.
The race that came before (call them aliens or just ancients, it doesn't matter) created humans in their own image to serve as slaves to serve them, using their own DNA. Both races lived in a huge, technological city called Eden, where the Ancients used their technology to control the humans.
Adam and Eve were different. Something in their DNA allowed them to resist the powers of the Ancient's technology... a skill that has since been passed down to the Assassins and showcased by both Altair and Ezio. Adam and Eve stole a piece of the Ancient technology and fled Eden. This act of rebellion led to the war between the humans and the ancients.
Before the war could end the EVENT happened, and destroyed Eden along with the ancients, leaving the humans to inhabit Earth.
We still don't know what the event was, or why it caused the vast majority of human kind to 'forget' their origins and instead interpret the past as popular/biblical myth.
But apparently, it's going to happen again in 2012.
Both Desmond and Subject 16 are descendants of Adam and Eve, which is why they have Eagle Vision and make for particularly potent Animus subjects.
Subject 16 has stated that Eve's DNA is the key. We don't know why yet, but it likely has something to do with their ability to resist the control of the ancients.
Come on, we're talking about a game series where the final stage in one of the games is to basically break into the Vatican as a one man army, kill a bunch of people, and then fight the Pope in a one on one battle with magic alien powers.
I thought the event was acoronal mass ejection?
