Halo 4 Interview With Footage, Probably No Beta [Up: Official Making Of Video]

I was wondering this too. Just seem like UI flourishes though. I thought it could've been a grenade indicator but that wouldn't make too much sense.

it's definetly not grenades, there's an image which shows the grenades underneath them. (1:58 mark)

The same image also shows that only one of the squares is lit up.

Yeah, I was thinking something similar. As long as it's a choice between starting, utility weapons, then it could work.

For example, I would love to start with a BR and AR, instead of a BR and pistol, on smaller maps with the AR could come in handy.

My hope is that any perks or armor affects are CLEARLY visible from a distance, so that I can react and strategize in battles, rather than just be surprised when some guy pulls a dive-roll or an armor lock out of his ass.

Why should they be pointed out to you as a player?

Playing the game and learning from experience should net you the skills to handle any situation cautiously before you dive into the skirmish. Having it pointed out to you isn't doing you any favors.

Here's to hoping the plasma rifle is fixed. I've been asking for it be fixed for 3 games now 343i.

From everything that's known, Armour Abilities are out BUT, some are being retained permanently, such as Sprint. Some of those abilities might show up in other ways though, who knows.
I'm okay with Sprint only.

I also think that perks, Killstreaks could be interesting in a halo setting. As long as they don't ruin the skill gap.

oh man, i would be up in arms if there were killstreaks! thats where i draw the line. why would a dominant player be rewarded in a game with more dominance? never made any sense to me.

Although I'm unsure about the progress-based perks and loadouts, I'm very confident that 343 can handle the concept well.

Edit: Imagine how great it would be if the post above me isn't a cutscene, but a gameplay mechanic that could optionally be controlled by Kinect, in a seamless, uninterruptive fashion.

Edit Edit: Holy shit, that's multiplayer footage.

Edit Edit Edit: I'm an idiot.

This looks...oh my god. Love the new Chief's armor. So is this pre-alpha, alpha, beta...? Anyway, looks pretty amazing.

Haha, no. The amount of vitriol Reach got solely from HaloGAF alone disagrees with you. Don't get me wrong though Bungie is a good dev studio, but definitely not the best.

And personally I believe the 343 super team trounces Bungie.
I agree.

Characters are now fully customizable in multiplayer; Spartans will have load-outs. The big news for Halo online fans is that 343 has decided to include game-changing unlocks in return for level progression, a similar system to that found in Call of Duty, for example.

Every single Halo game after the first have been an improvement.

I don't know if 343 can continue this but Reach haters can fuck right off.

I don't see anything wrong with the rewards system finally being a carbon copy of CoD's. Halo and other games has been making poor variations of it for years, so it's nice to see them finally admit defeat and simply take it.

That's silly. If that's the case, why not just replace every weapon model with the assault rifle, and let it be a surprise when the dude starts shooting rockets at you. Visual cues about the enemy and their threat level are a fundamental part of any intelligent FPS.

Part of what separates Halo from dreck like CoD is that there's strategy in every encounter, it's not just a matter of 'see dude, shoot dude before other dude shoots you'. Every element of an encounter, from the weapons I have, to the weapons I see on him, to my position on the approach, to the proximity of other enemies or allies, plays a part on whether you choose to engage, how you engage, and whether or not you come out on top.

If there's no way of knowing what abilities or bonuses a player has, then there's no what of measuring the situation effectively and strategizing on the fly. I don't need a giant sign or warning telling me everything about every enemy, just some visual cue as to what loadout they're running.

Reach's weakness was its competitive multiplayer, compared to the rest of the series. I thought the campaign and firefight were amazing.

The footage looks great but I'm not liking the idea of perks or loadouts, mostly because I hate having to grind through the multiplayer to get them all, I think it's seriously annoying. Why can't they all be unlocked from the beginning? So stupid. It's terrible game design imo.

how about, because the crappy perk system that COD created has killed competitive nature of fps games by creating an unblanced playing field? And that games which copy it are becoming less and less fun?

The reason reach lost so much of it's competative aspects was because of loadouts that fucked with the core gameplay.

keep is cosmetic please, and get rid of loadouts.

Well, let's not be too judgmental here. We know virtually nothing about Halo 4's player investment system other than that it will be both visual and gameplay affecting, but at the same time different to what other games such as Call of Duty do.
In what way different and just how those perks will affect the gameplay, we simply don't know yet. For now, I give 343 the benefit of the doubt.

.

Weakest things about MP being armor abilities nerfing regular mobility, and gameplay. Also, most of the maps sucked.

Halo Reach is a fantastic multiplayer shooter. Not perfect, but certainly superior in most regards to the games that preceded it.

Bloom gets a tough rap, but it's a mechanic that allowed Bungie to produce the most balanced weapon sandbox in the series. I didn't mind 100% bloom, and I rather liked 85% bloom. I'm interested and a little nervous to see how 343 handles weapon balance without bloom to keep some weapons from becoming too versatile (cough*BR*cough).

The game's only major weakness IMO, was that the maps out of the box were lackluster. That was addressed with DLC and some great community maps (notwithstanding the sameness of the Forge color palette).

These 'game changing unlocks' worry me. I would have much rather seen 343 perfect the balance between persistence and classic Halo gameplay in Reach than push even further toward CoD.

Looks pretty good!

The title "Halo 4" still seems so surreal to me every time I see it because Halo 3 was engrained in our brains as the last one.

Sorry, but outside AAs, Reach MP is awesome.

Playing the anniversary playlists or team SWAT is the best MP I've experienced in Halo.

this is pretty much my feelings, though i didnt play alot of anniversary...team swat is where its at, most fun ive had in any MP in a long time
