Anybody know the requirements to get 100% completion in the game? I have all the trophies and I've recorded scores for all stopwatch modes. But I'm only at 96%. The only mode I haven't played is duel mode.

I used to think I was so good at this. I can't crack 100k. Can someone give tips beyond a WHITE PAPER and that sketch posted by Keyser? Or is it really that simple?

My high score is something like 400k. Not crazy high like some people, but this is what I do (probably holdover habits from tetris).

On skins that don't endanger me (i.e. aren't super fast, and don't have a slow clear line), I'm aggressive with placing things quickly - line them up and slam them down. As soon as a square is formed I add to it like crazy to make it bigger before the line comes around. Rushing it helps you get lots of blocks cleared on every sweep and bonus points (though when I'm over ambitious on the wrong skin, this approach can end really badly).

You also get lots of bonus points for having the entire field clear or only one colour on the field (this is really easy to achieve on the first skin if you just keep an eye on what's coming up and where the line is). Having some forethought when you see an upcoming chain block can also ensure that tons of squares get cleared on the next sweep.

yeah. 1.4 million on voyage. Last I checked, I was beating Astrolad just baaarely.

I got like 80k on Master mode as my high school. Level 5 is insane.

I got the credits and playlists trophy only the next time I booted up the game. Pretty weird but I assume it's like that for everyone so maybe good to be aware of.

Avatar trophy left which will take a long time because I keep forgetting it's even there, so I think I have like 190 to go. >_<

Trophies are completely fucked in the game. Most trophies I got only after restarting the game, but two of them (watching credits and using avatar abilities 200 times) simply don't want to register. God bless rushed buggy shit.

When was that? Because when I got the game (somewhere around the 22nd), it got a patch to 1.01 quite soon after that I think. So it might be better now / after you've installed the patch?

This is the worst skin ever. Terrible aesthetic.

I am so stoked that I am getting this tonight! I played the demo so many times yet I was only able to get to the 3rd skin prolly 4 times so far. My score was like 24k which prolly sucks. I would like to be added on the list of PSN names... PSN: KooPaL-

First thing I did was install the patch. Can't get any trophies now. The only odd thing in my equation is that I started off with the retail version, deleted it from the Vita and then downloaded the PSN version. But that alone shouldnt bork the trophies and if it does the developers should be slapped for not testing that scenario.

As for that black-white skin, I love it.

So I didn't realize that tapping on the rear touchpad quickly recharged the avatar ability. I think this is a terrible feature and I see people exploiting it to get ridiculous scores. It just doesn't make sense on any level to me. Trying to take advantage of that sort of takes me out of the "trance" I get into when playing the game and it also puts a heavy reliance on special blocks rather than just playing the game "normally". :(

Only realized this a couple days ago and I agree completely. I mostly play for personal bests (went from 240k to 350k yesterday, minor but notable jump for me) but it's unfortunate that mechanic is in. Would have liked a "pure" mode versus something which touch stuff thrown in (like "delta" from Stardust).

Also, yes, eff that black and white stage (feels wrong to say skin there). I concentrate more on just seeing what I'm doing than playing how I normally do.

So... I suck at this like I told you all. :lol First try in Voyage ended with something like 33k, the second time I got about 44k. Though, I've got to say I'm a lot better at this than the last time I played Lumines. At times it might've almost looked like I knew what the hell I was doing. :p And a few times I really did have a good idea where to put the blocks. But then things go to hell and I panic and I have no idea what to do anymore.

The key is effective use of the checkered blocks. Don't panic when they show up. They're especially useful for continuing already completed squares that are close to other blocks of the same color. Also, you really need to figure out how the excess blocks fall. So if there's a stack of two blocks, then this happens:

I apologize for the terrible picture.

Those checkered blocks are terrible. :-/

Fuck that trophy for clearing 30 blocks in the 30 second stopwatch mode. Seems fun to try, then GGRRRAHAHSDUFHVRHHFHCBEJ

For anyone that bought digital, does your liva area say "unlock full gam now"? I don't get it...

It did for me initially. I launched the game and then exited which seemed to fix it. I assume you had the demo then downloaded the unlock?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I guess you would HAVE to get the demo and then the unlock.

Mind blown again.

I thought I was doing awesome with my 500k, but I didn't realize you guys were getting your scores without using avatar abilities. O_O I'm constantly spamming the shit out of the back trackpad to charge up the connector power-up, without that I'd be toast. Can't even beat Zone 2 in Master mode.

You're playing Ridge Racer?

10/10

I originally played on someone's card, then downloaded the game for myself. Doesn't bother me too much, but it's definitely a fault in the OS or Ubi's demo / unlock process. I imagine most won't have this issue since my situation is semi-unique.

Just got a Vita today and the first thing I did was download the Lumines demo. Damn...the music, the quality d-pad...it's all just so good. One thing is bugging me though. The randomizer block seems pretty cool and I'm guessing it can save your ass from time to time, but I feel like it might undermine when I'm trying for a long term strategy. It seemed to pop up quite often. Is there any way to turn it off in the full game?

Regardless, this will be the first game I purchase for my spanking new Vita. Unbelievably cool.

You can't turn it off but it only affects blocks that it touches. So you can leave a space for them if you are planning on building some large chains.

The latest 8-4 podcast has milky on talking about this and nearly made me buy a vita. nearly

Of the many things I can play on the Vita, Lumines remains my favorite by a lot. I hadn't spent any time with the series since the PSP original and I'm loving it. Only downside: I see blocks when I'm not playing the game now. Whoops!

I'm liking the tracklist more now, god it's so addicting. And I played Lumines Live just to compare and I am really loving the way the new skins and backgrounds feel. I don't know how to describe it, but it just looks and feels more dynamic than the previous iterations. My highest is 900k, so pissed I couldn't hit 1 mil. When I reach the 2nd loop, the speed is just so much faster, and add fatigue into that, and it's an easy lose for me. I should take a break every now and then between games....

Long time Lumines fan (the original Lumines was my first PSP game and this is my first Vita game) and really digging this reboot. Everything about the game feels smooth and the music is great. Bring on the Shinin', Eri Nobuchika, and Genki Rockets DLC!

My PSN handle is Nekobo1 if you anyone wants to add me.

Damn this game, I will best you and reach 1 million. Beat my high score by like 40k every new game and then lose. Only a matter of time...

Could someone explain to me how the multiplier bonus thing works? I don't really understand what it's talking about in the tips menu.

One thing I must say is that one Voyage can take a long damn time. I played some last night and it took over an hour before I saw a Game Over. I think I ended up around 416k.

I probably could have kept going but one of the faster skins popped up and I was started to feel sleepy which hampered my performance.

I love playing the game but it's a HUGE commitment. When you sit down to break your score prepare to shove aside an hour or two at least and forget about retries. This is one of the reasons why the console versions never worked for me. Lumines is just made for a portable.

Thankfully, fast skins usually aren't lumped up back to back, so you can usually get to a good pause point during a slower skin within a few minutes of play. I'll often extend one "Voyage" over multiple play sessions, clearing a few more skins each time I pick up the game.

I remember doing the same thing with Tetris DS--I got to the point where I could keep a game going piecemeal throughout an entire day, tapping out at around 500-600 lines.

Yep, I picked up my Vita last night and intended to play Uncharted but realized I had left the thing sleeping for days during a Voyage where I was sitting at around 200k. Picked it up and tanked the run mid-400k but enjoy that I can leave the Vita in sleep mode for a long period of time with minimal battery drain. Very impressed with how well it holds up in that department given how capable the system is.

This is actually one of the faster ones too. I remember playing Live for at least 1.5-2 hours per session (3+ laps). Nice thing is there's Master Mode now too which both does away with the avatar cheesiness and gets you right to the heart of the game. I do prefer Voyage though; quite like the whole long experience.

So. Has this game improved much from the PSP/XBLA versions? I found the first game to be insufferably boring but I saw the tracklisting for this today and almost messed my pants. It was, just, beautiful. There's a Jam & Spoon remix for crying out loud. I just need to know if the game is more fun this time because if it is, even slightly, this is going to be my first Vita game when I get one.

Same game, different soundtrack more or less. Which means you may not like it. Maybe the music would enhance your enjoyment of it? I mean, it is the best Vita game so far.

If you didn't enjoy the core gameplay of those versions I see little reason why you'd enjoy this one, even if you like the music a lot more. None of the changes drastically alter the experience from the original in my eyes.

Any tricks to getting the play Lumines for 3 hours in one day trophy...

I mean I really like the game but with work and 2 young kids it's pretty hard to play for a solid 3 hours in one day!

Only need that trophy and 200 avatar ability trophies.

Get your priorities straight.

Lock those kids up in their rooms.
