I never understand why people think 8 hours is short for a shooter. Most shooters are >2 hours - 8 hours long, anything longer is just filling the game with BS.
Jesus, are all those jitters and dialogue boxes in the actual cutscenes of the game?
Shit looks turrrrrble.
I agree. Its distracting. There shouldn't be no text and no heavy post processing, hurts my eyes.Sadly, it does look very distracting and awkward.

Stranglehold's story was terrible. Even the worst of R*'s stories completely destroyed it. The atmosphere wasn't that good either. It was basically the polar opposite of Max Payne.
Liked the reload although seems they haven't put the desert eagle magazine in his hand yet.
In case people are still complaining about things being too bright and not "noir" enough.
I rest my case.
Uh wow. Thanks to this gif I just noticed how Max tucks the AK under his arm to reload the DEagle before freeing it to grab hold again and continue on. Awesome.
Where's that from? I can't recall it...
8-12 hours is the perfect length for a shooter.
I can't fucking stand it when people cry, "Oh, but it's not 25 hours!" like it's some sort of legitimate criticism.
I'd say 12-15 is the sweet spot provided the pacing can be maintained. That said, I'm not one to criticise a short(er) game if it provided a fantastic experience (see: Max Payne 2, which clocks in at ~6 hours).
A Rockstar representative told us the game is probably eight to ten hours per playthrough, but he hopes gamers will keep playing to perfect their runs through each chapter, and learn more fun ways to defeat foes. He described it as perfecting the “choreography” of the action sequences. We can see it happening, too, as the game was enjoyable to take in from a spectator’s perspective on Rockstar’s couch. It feels very much like a movie. There is hardly a heads-up display to speak of, leaving you to focus on the action. The use of color, tight edits and dramatic lighting made it feel like an experienced cinematographer had their hands all over the game.
Chinatown?
I seem to take a bit longer to play games (both Uncharted 2 and Dead Space 2 were apparently 8 hours in length, and I finished the games in 9-11 hours, and that was a good length with good pacing).
On a different note, is anyone gonna try playing through the whole game just using pistols (or at least, pistols as much as humanly possible)? I'm definitely gonna try a pistol-only play-through.
According to this preview, the game is between 8 and 10 hours:

The game is supposed to have multiplayer, correct? I can't remember if I actually heard or read that, or just dreamt it.

Any chance for gifs of Max beating down the thug at the beginning of the video and the transition from in the helicopter to the bar, please?

I think, mechanics-wise, Stranglehold held up comparably well to Max Payne. It really illustrates that the appeal of Max Payne was more than its gameplay.Stranglehold is one of the 'me-too' games that followed in Max's steps. There were others, but not many reached the heights of Max Payne. I remember Dead to Rights as the clearest copy-cat. Not a bad game, kinda fun, but utterly ridiculous. True Crime: Streets of LA was had the bullet time shoot dodge if I remember right, but it was also open-world. I remember a couple others, but the titles don't immediately come to mind.
Whack-a-thug:
So we've seen some footage of the bullet impacts and the gruesome deaths highlighted by Euphoria. But I'm really curious to see just how far they push the gore. In almost every trailer they cut right before Max pulls the trigger on a foe at close range, or right before 'cinematic bullet' impacts. The gif above is a perfect example:
The guys at Rockstar are familiar with controversy and I'm wondering just how far they'll push the violence threshold with this game, especially since we haven't really seen explosives or gotten the greatest looks at really high caliber rifles/shotguns yet. They also keep reiterating the dark narrative idea, so I'm really interested to see just how dark this game is, not just story wise but in a gameplay sense as well.
All this Max Payne 3 hype is spilling over into GTAV hype and making me super interested to see more with it too.
Have you seen the first tech and design trailer? It showed some guy getting his jaw half-blown off.
Ryan Davis from Giant Bomb played it last moth and said that it's incredibly brutal. Particularly the ending killcams. I don't think it'll always cut away at the last second like it is in these trailers.

Never played the previous Max Payne games (Ive heard a lot of good things about them, so I'll probably get them in the next Steam sale) but from the beginning I've following this game, and the last trailers about animation, gameplay and presentation had me very impressed. The shooting looks very good. I love TPS, and I'm itching one with a realistic and gritty but non military theme, so I think I have a winner .

Do the right thing and buy this bundle. USD$15 for ~15 hours of pure TPS joy is well worth it.
Who is that on your avatar? I feel like I've asked before, I need to know again.
Right right right. You told me last time too. Strange I forget such a unique name.
