Ferrari need someone like Perez instead of Massa. Alonso is the only one scoring points for them. They might not even end up third in the constructors championship.

You have the race recorded, don't you? Can you give us a transcript of that part in Whitmarsh's interview?

I agree, Massa his time is up. Nobody expects him to perform like Alonso, but what he is doing is just plain embarrassing.

I think it's also pretty clear that Alonso is the best driver at the moment.

You know full well that wouldn't have happened if Karthikeyan got out the way properly for Vettel and if the HRT wasn't so crap and didn't have to brake so much easily than the McLaren.

Say what you want, I've been supporting the lower teams since they joined, but Karthikeyan is just dead meat. There's a reason he hasn't been in F1 since his first and only year with Jordan in 2004.

I'm no massive suporter for Narain but Jenson said himself he carried too much speed into the turn and had no choice but to crash into him, as for Vettel it's no surprise but he was too optimistic if not a bit impatient in trying to catch Lewis, if he waited he could have easily passed him on the straight.

But Karthikeyan was already out of Vettel's way. I need to see it again but I remember Vettel cutting across Karthikeyan when he had the entire width of the track at his disposal. The puncture was no one's fault but his own.

My race comments by order of drivers

Alonso:

Inter-team orders or not, he very well deserved the win. "Drove the ass of" his Ferrari, and he kept fighting till the end in a very tricky weather condition. He never got a breathing space during the whole race. Great job eyebrows, but don't get used to it I frikin hate you

Perez:

Do I even have to say anything about him. A rising star, hiccup/distracted at the end, but well done, and well done to that Sauber! about time a small team that shows a good pace.

Hamilton:

Another pole to 3rd place, a bit of a lonely race there. Better luck next time

Webber:

When the going gets tough, and Marks equipment don't mysteriously malfunction, Webber is your man. Great job Chin-man

Raikkonen:

Keep racking up those fastest laps. You're as cool as Ice. 17 > 7, 10 >5. I can't help thinking what if he didn't get that 5 grid penalty. But that's what you get with supporting Kimi, so many what ifs.

General:

This is a lesson to FiA. Keep the base rules for some time and teams will be able to catch up. Keep changing them and only big teams will be able to win. That doesn't mean we don't need to get rid of mickey mouse teams like HRT. I don't care who's fault it is but that HRT (NK) needed to get TNT'ed on the start-finish line after the race.

When they are taking about Perez. Whitmarsh said:

"I imagine he put a bit of pressure on mr massa with that result"

"I don't know what the odds are if him switching teams before China, but I'm sure there is some consideration there...lol"

The man has won a single race in two events this year and you're proclaiming this? In a field where there are 6 drivers who have won a championship? If I wanted to generalize as much as you, I'd state that F1 GAF is going down the drain.

Ouch.. thats the one, can we have another one that 5-7 seconds longer?

It was very clear (to me at least), that he was telling him "you owe me one"

many thanks in advance

He won in a car that barely made it into the top 10, I think he deserves a little credit at least.

Alonso, a god amongst men, they day this guy has a decent car again, the domination is going to look like the Schumi best days.

Some people make bold claims on this board and it's been a bit pronounced this season so far but I think it's more amusing to just let them get on with it and profess the inevitable demise of a drive/team with very limited information.

I've got to say I'm seriously impressed by most of the drivers on the grid. There is a lot of talent this year.
And then there's Massa and Narain.

Awesome race, I like wet races, it's where the magic happens. And even though Perez most certainly earned it, seeing a Sauber finish in 2nd? Magic. Also good work from Alonso, that Ferrari shouldn't really be able to do that, but when Alonso is driving, it can somehow.

I'm sad that again Schumacher got unlucky. I really wanted to see what he can do with his Mercedes. Maybe in China, then. I would not be surprised if he won a race this season, but the Mercedes needs a few tweaks for race performance first. Then again, we saw today tha you don't need the very best car to win this year.

Meaning what, if you can't appreciate his skills is not my problem, the guy is the leader of the championship with a piece of junk, other champions with far better cars are behind, so give credit were is due.

Karthikeyan is shit, but neither incident today was on him. Button stuffed up a genuine overtake, and Vettel chopped in fron of a back marker. Both silly mistakes.

LOVE that Kimi pic..

I believe the man himself:
Perez, who himself became the first Mexican to finish on the podium in a world championship event since Pedro Rodriguez at Zandvoort in 1971, said winning was possible, and hailed the team for its great job during a difficult event.

"I think the win today was really possible," said Perez, who is fifth in the championship with 22 points. "Obviously the team did very good work to call me in at the right time. We lost just [time] at the end a lot of second pitstop, which did not go well with the clutch, but then I managed to catch him [Alonso] lap by lap.

"I lost control of the car and lost the fight for the victory. Even so, it has been a great day for the team. They called me at the right time. The conditions were difficult to keep the car on track, and it has been incredible. They were focused as well, calling me at the right time, which was crucial."

Perez caught up with Alonso after a slow second pitstop, but slid wide when he looked set to attempt a pass on the Spaniard.

"I knew I had to be quick to overtake him as I had a lot of degradation in the tyres," he said. "I was looking for a way to get him and then I ran a bit wide and touched the wet kerb and was lucky to not go off.

"In the end second place is a great result for the team. It's many points. It's only the second the race, but hopefully we can keep improving to fight."

Regardless of my bitter dislike towards NK, neither would have happened if he had a car that was so shit.

But anyway.

Too bad the race wasn't a lap longer.

Alonso would have won and lapped Massa.
Like I said earlier, Massa would've found a way to take him out.

But that pic posted a few posts above... I still kinda feel sorry for him. Looks like a bit of a nuffy :(

Didn't see Webber have a problem with him. Cry moar.

That's my take on it as well. Those teams there are like Mario Kart obstacles.

Caterham are mixing it up with teams at the back of the midfield and Marussia are right on their tail. At least those guys have improved whilst HRT are still trundling around like fools.

Getting a spring in your face at 170 mph and nearly killing you, changes some people for sure.

In order to determine whether it was man or machine at fault, the Scuderia has already confirmed that it is preparing a fresh chassis for Massa to use at Sepang in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix - 'a choice was taken to clear up any doubts about the unusual performance of his car during the weekend at Albert Park'

What will be his excuse for this race?

He won in a car that barely made it into the top 10, I think he deserves a little credit at least.

He deserves a lot of credit for typical Malaysian conditions that have only hit the F1 seasons as of late. Alonso is a great and almost perfect driver, and I am looking forward to seeing how he will cope with an underperforming Ferrari season.

Meaning what, if you can't appreciate his skills is not my problem, the guy is the leader of the championship with a piece of junk, other champions with far better cars are behind, so give credit were is due.

You're quoting the wrong person. But I guess with a post like this I can easily dismiss your post to outright bias. It may be hard to accept that I watch F1 for the sport of it but through time you may come to agree with me.

Haven't you heard? You can't make bold statements about a drivers ability in F1 GAF. Not even when his car is junk and he still manages to a race.

How did he do in the Australian GP compared to the rest of the field? I'm all for glorifying exemplary drivers but let us not get ahead of ourselves. Remember that you are stating he is one of the best drivers at the moment and we have barely passed round 2 of a possible 20. That is merely what I was calling you out on.

What will be his excuse for this race?

There will be no excuse this season. He is a decent driver but whatever contributions he made with Ferrari in the past are dust. Felipe Massa is Humpty Dumpty.

I think Massa is done now it's a given. It's a real shame though because I still think he's talented personally. However the way things have steam-rolled, the unfortunate series of events and scrutiny he's had to endure personally and within the sphere of the team I don't think he was ever going to recover in a fast moving atmosphere like f1. His self belief and psyche overall are probably well and truly shattered so leaving the team probably works out best for both.

Whitmarsh is the reason I don't hate McLaren anymore. Well, and Button driving for them, but just not havging to listen to Ron's rubbish and getting Whitmarsh's brilliant trolling has done wonders for their image.

Kim wants a 'normal' weekend

"Hopefully we can get a normal race next time," said Raikkonen. "All the time there is something going wrong or the weather changes a lot.

"It would be nice to just have a normal weekend and just see where we are. Right now, nobody really knows where anybody is. But we seem to have a pretty strong package everywhere."

"I didn't have any experience on the inter tyres or the wet tyres," he said. "We'd only done one installation lap and it was a bit of an odd feeling to go directly into the race with tyres we hadn't run.

"I just tried to stay with the others and stay on the circuit, and then pushed harder and harder. It took a few laps for me to pick up speed when I changed to dries, but after that it was OK."

I've got a lot os sympathy for the guy, but regardless of the reason, if he can't perform, he has to go. Even before the spring he was not that great, he just had a lucky season.
