Yeah but it's a legitimate complaint. Losing 2 games from Justin Smoak is absolutely unfair.

The Rays' increase in payroll from last season looks to come in at just about 50 percent, a dramatic hike for any team, but especially one that ranked near the bottom in attendance.

Though their approximately $63 million payroll isn't anywhere near the $200 million Yankees or $178 million Red Sox, it's still a good sign, especially to players union chief Michael Weiner.

"The Rays have been a very successful team on the field, and they also are successfully running a business," Weiner said Friday after the annual meeting with the team. "That's what they should be doing. We're glad to see them increase their payroll, and we hope that the new basic agreement creates incentives that allow them to continue to be competitive."

Principal owner Stuart Sternberg has said they made the increase essentially as an investment in optimism, spending beyond their means in hopes that the improved team wins, and that attendance increases in response.

Weiner is hoping for a similar payoff.

"We follow (the attendance issue) because they have a very competitive team with some very engaging players, guys that have been with the organization and been with the fans for a long time, and you'd like to see more success," he said. "I know the TV ratings, the local TV ratings for the Rays are very good, there's a lot of people that follow the club, a lot of people that read you guys when you write about them. And you'd love to see that pay off with more people in the stands."

Also, Weiner said, the expanded playoff format with a second wild card "has to help a team like the Rays."

TV ratings will always be high for the Rays until they move the damn team.

Rays would be so much better off if they moved the team

- Current stadium is falling apart and is a dump
- St. Pete is 90% senior citizens, its embarrassing going to a game and be the only person cheering and others get angry at you for it
- Dont even play in Tampa (Sure St. Petersburg is about 30-45 minutes away but when the majority of games are at 7pm nobody is coming off of work and gonna drive that far to go see them. Not to mention traffic after 5pm is suicide in that area.)

I'd argue that this hike is the least dramatic for the team with the lowest ranked payroll.

At this point, I want it to have giant Don Johnson and Gloria Estefan faces above the outfield bleachers, and only cheesy 80s music for all player entrances. Wrap the entire stadium in pink and blue neon as well. Well, it can be pink and blue LEDS for safety and energy consumption purposes, but it must be there.

I love peanut butter, and I have also learned not to dismiss peanut butter's inclusion on anything. Additionally, peanut butter and bacon is a godly combination. So I will not knock this until I have tried it.

It does look pretty weird though. And there are plenty of fancypants hot dog places around here in NYC, but I have never seen a peanut butter option. Interesting.

Ha i almost got into a fight with an older guy last time i was at the trop. He told me to stop ringing "That goddamn cowbell". I told him to fuck off, and for the rest of the game i used TWO cowbells.

But yes the crowd at Rays games are typically older folks. Rays should move to Orlando, that'd be great.

I've been to about 8-10 Rays games over the years since their inaugural year. I've never really had much of a problem with The Trop itself, but the location is just bad as far as attracting people from outside of that immediate area. My cousins in Florida have been telling me for years about how the stadium needs to be in Tampa rather than St. Pete, yet the mayor is committed to enforcing the lease (which may be the death knell for the franchise in the future).

I know I'm going to be shat on here but...

I absolutely despise peanut butter, shit is disgusting. Seeing that hot dog makes me sick, especially seeing good bacon wasted like that.
