Now I know how Dawkins feels during his FOX news interviews.

Whether it was established that you had espoused the position or not, the assertion itself was always going to be empirically disprovable, so it makes no sense to say that it would suddenly become disprovable if you were shown to hold that belief. It would become disprovable when hard evidence in the form of box office numbers became available. Hence the use of future and not present tense.

I guess you misread because I went looking for the actual quotes after deciding it would save time to discuss the exact words. Turns out it only wasted time, but what can you do?

These idiots weren't aware that black Nick Fury appeared in the comics before the films.

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
That clip they played on Letterman just now was some amazingly uninformative jargon.

I dunno if what this movie is actually about will be revealed until the sequel.

To all you people ripping on Thor for the small town location:

The latest run of Thor comics takes place in a small town in Oklahoma in which Thor rises Asgard on Earth.

Plus, would you really want to build a bridge to Earth in the middle of a big city??

It's not about the fact that it's a small town. It's that the small town looks like the inspiration behind its construction was "the color brown".

The setting is fine. Thor sucks because the character sucks. Branaugh and Hemsworth got as close as anyone ever could to making the character likable.

Reading comprehension, how does it work?

Where did I say that The Avengers would bomb? Neither of those quotes suggest that. I was (and still am) suggesting that The Avengers will cheapen the franchise of those characters involved. Much like AvP cheapened the Alien and Predator.

Hahaha, and people are calling my opinions out? Hahaha.

You've got it completely backwards. Thankfully Kevin Feige is running Marvel Studios and knows what he's doing.

You honestly don't see the difference between the Aliens vs. Predator movies and what Marvel is doing with their movies?

That was an exaggerated example of the bad that can come from it. But I do think that had Marvel focused on developing each of these individual properties and stories with a standalone universe, the films would have been all the better for it.

More than just an exaggeration, the "MCU" movies since Iron Man were made with this in mind, rather completely unlike when Scott made Alien and McTiernan made Predator.

The Avengers was/is a huge experiment that is looking to have tested positively. With it being done and all, these movies can now rely on there being brand awareness and hopefully focus on being better films/sequels in the process.

Thor and Asgard has been in Oklahoma for nearly a decade.

If the Avengers didn't exist, Marvel's movies would still be virtually the same.

Seeing the Avengers on screen is the fulfillment of many a childhood discussion and dream. The only let down is the team doesn't include Sersi and the Black Knight.

I don't see anything wrong with the costumes, even Capt America's costume. He's supposed to be a symbol on the battlefield....to stick out when on the ground fighting the bad guys. But yeah, it's kinda funny to see that vision realized on screen because WHO THE FUCK WHERE'S BRIGHT COLORS ON THE BATTLEFIELD.

And people didn't like Thor's costume? Shit is dope. And I don't see how they could make his helmet stay on during fights.

Oh quit your whining. It's clear what you meant. You think the Avengers will bomb so badly that the rest of the Marvel Avenger character movies will be ruined. It's almost to the point where you hope this happens so you can win some internet debate.

If the Avengers didn't exist, Marvel's movies would still be virtually the same.

Or the movies may not have been greenlit in the first place.

Whaaaa? Is there a link?

Word ’round the campfire is Marvel considers The Avengers to be their best outing yet. I’ve talked to some cynics in the group who weren’t sure it was going to come together and they’re all doing their mea culpas now. They say it has the heart, the action, the humor and the suspense a movie like The Avengers should have. The only criticisms I’ve heard is that Whedon’s eye isn’t as cinematic as it should be, but that the rest of the movie is so good that you accept it.

Right. I'll believe it when I see it.

I know they are completely different genres, but seeing the last Harry Potter movie makes me confident The Avengers will be the best Marvel movie so far.
In the HP series I got the impression that from the 5th film onwards they were holding out on the goods because they knew where they were headed with the series, that's not to say the previous movies weren't any good, but the last movie just went all out with the action.
They crafted the series so that come the time of the last movie, the audience knows the characters, they know end goal, and the movie can just get on with delivering a quality action flick, and as a result it was the most well recieved movie of the series and one of the most critically aclaimed movie of the year overall.

I get the same impression from the avengers, many films have been made in preparation for this movie, to introduce us to the characters, get the audience primed and the set the stage for the avengers, which has been their end goal where they can like HP hopefully deliver their best movie yet.

Who here has actually kept up with the comics oooh over the past 3-4 years? Seems like theres alot of talking out of asses, thinking they know the characters? So far, all the marvel films have really captured a ton of the best parts of the most recent marvel universe just fine. There is a fine line here, between comic book characters, taking the source material seriously, and then just trying to have a good time with it all. Who here has actually been reading the actual stories?

I love how they have captured some of the original story elements to each character, but also brought in alot of the Ultimates influence into everything.

Sure, not every film has hit the right marks like others have. Id say:

Awesome:
Iron Man
Incredible Hulk

Good: Captain America ( I would have put it in awesome, but I couldnt decide if I liked the campy nature of the film)

Ok:
Thor
Iron Man 2

I mean, we have a full blown Avengers film coming. If that alone isn't amazing, nothing is gonna please anybody.

So far my only gripe, and I am not even sure if its justified yet is that Joss Whedon seems to be filming this movie in a more tv style sort of way. This movie needs a grand scale in my opinion. But writing wise, I'm all in. His run on Astonishing X-men was my favorite story in comic books for years.
