yes, it's so cartoony, unlike TL2

Torchlight 2 at least looks like it's predecessor. The artstyle of Diablo 3 is shit, but that's not even half of it's problems. Blizzard has dumbed down and removed so many features that were key to Diablo 2, and also introducing some very stupid ideas. To top it all off, you got to deal with the shit that is the new battle.net.

Torchlight 2 has offline, lan, modding and doesn't have a $60 pricetag.

I am sure there's torchlight vs diablo 3 thread somewhere or you guys should created one and go at it.

Anyway, as far as population, I am seriously think they will have hard time keeping subscription. They really need to do server merge (I have a feeling probably will come after the financial call) or allow transfer.

Empire GAF managed to muster a 16 man tonight to take down the first boss (in under an hour) in the new Denova operation. Man is it a 10x improvement over EV and KP. The boss fight was fun and engaging (very chaotic), and focused on mechanics over enrage timers. We failed to get the second guy down, but we were all tired and didn't read up on him; should be pretty easy next week.

Anyhow, after playing WoW for a couple weeks recently, Denova is a lot more fun than anything Cata had to offer (Cata fights are really really boring...); still doesn't measure up to the godliness that was WoW: TBC (in terms of PvE AND PvP content), but I think it's as close as you can get to a nostalgic "hardcore" past that doesn't exist anymore.

HM Denova here we come :D (I hope!).

Denova is fun. The guild I am in has gotten the first 2 bosses down and we got the 3rd to 1% and wiped. 3rd Boss has alot of luck involved with the puzzle. That said the atmosphere of the place etc is top notch design.

Got the Tauntaun pet that drops from the Hoth world boss, but honestly it's the ugliest one I've seen. I'd much rather the PAX one.

New content has been great, they just need to keep it coming and hopefully not make us wait 3-4 months for more.

yeah day 2 of complete failure trying to get a FP going. My guild has a min requirement of 4 Columni (set pieces) for a new toon to raid and I can't get a freaking group to run anything

Guild doesn't run HM's and such to get it's members geared up?

Star War's hms get very tedious after you run them 2/3 times. For example, Kaon under Siege fp has a stupid amount of thrash until you reach the first boss.

Wow pretty much eliminated all trash, in late WOTLK Dungeons (or made them part of the boss fights), reintroduced a decent amount of trash in early cata, and reduced them again in late Cataclysm. IMHO, a decent chunk wow and ex-wow players that play SWTOR are just fatigued of that system. I really do think Old Republic design is really stuck in BC era (in all honesty I don't blame them for doing so, ALOT of players say they wanted BC back), but there's a reason why Blizzard evolved from it.

The FP runs are best just supplemental. If you want straight columni gear it's the "easy" way to get it but takes forver. Doing regular runs through the ops is the fastest way to gear up your guildies, while some HM's here and there are best way to just supplement them. The guild your in will of course have different set ups, some are more hardcore focused and going to be trying to push harder stuff and require top end gear, but that just leads to stagnation if they don't make themselves open to getting newer players geared up. Instead recruitment of some guilds reqiures you to basically be geared to even get into them..... meh not my kind of guild. Guild I play with for example has a night for the raiders and we do a weekend run for the newbies where we have a vet or a couple who take the non geared through reg modes and such to gear them up.

Guilds running straight HM OPs+ only are basically going to keep their younger members in the wings and frustrate them as they try to catch up.

Kaon is awesome FP but yea the amount of trash makes me generally avoid it in HM, the ops in the game have far less trash than Kaon has, though the theme of stuff like Kaon would also not be as interesting without all the trash "zombies". I rather not see trash go away, FP's are not long in the first place to run, but some of them do have too much trash. Ops so far I think have a good ratio, while some FPs are padded with them.

Yup. There's too much trash and the trash is fucking boring. It feels like I'm clearing AQ40 again.
Not to mention the other annoying things like huge corpseruns, forced dismounts (if you can mount at all), far-away repair NPCs... there's so much contrived tedium.

World event was awesome. Got a feeling that this is just the beginning of it as well. Hopefully it will ramp up the next few days. I also hope they continuously do these events.

Agree. Kudos to BW for pulling off a well done world event. I can only imagine how fun it must be on a pvp server.

New daily Rakghoul daily mission is up, its called passenger list and you have to find 4 escape pods.
where does it start? from the crashed ship in the ne?
edit: lol wrote shit instead of ship ^^

how many quest are there anyway...
did the pet thingy, blood sample, some area daily you have to kill a shaman and the one near the ship where you have to kill the captain

which did I miss?

Really liking how BW is handling this event. Not sure if I can participate yet since I just rolled a new SM on The Fatman server (around lvl 12).

Take place in a different area? Does it replace the ones from yesterday or just a new one added to the chain?

I beleive its just added to the chain of missions which you can repeat daily, its a computer in the NE near the crashed ship, you get the containment gloves as an optional reward for completing it.

The only thing Blizzard removed is archaic and nonsensical permanent min/max choices.
It's really amazing to me that people miss Stat Min/Maxing and permanent skill trees. Or is it the removal of "who can click the loot fastest" or spamming potions endlessly that bothers you?

Offline/LAN I wont even bother to acknowledge as a real critique in 2012.

Dont like the artstyle fine, but that's a weak complaint

They do, it is a timing issue on my part. There is finally new content so we are pretty much phasing out EV HM and KP to commit to the new raid. The columni requirement is more to keep people with a billion alts (which we have) from trying to put them in the roster as this guild does not use DKP

My BH is full Rakata but I was not thrilled with the BH healing style so want to bench him. I'm trying to avoid playing him and getting gear only to eventually take him out of the roster. I did not think I would have so many problems getting runs and would be properly geared

Would suggest you either find a new guild or stay on your new character and PUG in a group, I get tell requests to heal for OP's quite often, its all about people recognising your name and stuff I guess, play with them once and they will add you to their friends list and ask for your help again if they are short.

I'll definitely stay with the guild they are cool guys. I've been healing raids with them since the game launched, I don't want to bail on them during a raid day to pug with the alt. I'm sure (?) this will only be a problem for this week. If I can pull off 2 more dailies I can buy my third piece and in that time I will run another FP for the 4th

But it still highlight the glaring ommission of a LFG tool or at the minimal a global channel.

As mentioned I spent a couple of hours LFG, mostly alt tabbing and letting myself get infected. I was looking for specific raids initially (Foundry,FE or Directive 7) so I "guess" it should be harder but during that time there was a Healer and DPS looking for any HM FP spanning in general chat.

The lack of this tool, I think will really hurt the longevity of this MMO. I will say without a doubt levelling an alt in SWTOR was the worse experience of any MMO I have ever played. The cool story does not make up for all the shortcomings.

Hey folks,

Some follow up news from observations of play and feedback over the weekend. In the next couple of days we will be deploying a small patch that will address the following issues:
As discussed, minimum medals to gain rewards will go from 3 to 1 to better reward those who are backfilled.
Warzones will once again be shutting down when population imbalance is detected. This was an unfortunate bug where a feature of Ranked Warzones (in full team play it is not desirable to let one team end the game prematurely by quitting out) was incorrectly implemented globally.
Completion of Warzones will gain a large increase in the percentage of rewards it represents, so while scoring is still the primary driver, you will cease to see games that give no rewards if players have a minimum of 1 medal earned.
We are extending the time we wait for a full team of eight to better make sure Warzones pop with complete teams.

A huge thank you to everyone who played this weekend and provided valuable feedback and analysis.

Thankfully they are fixing some of the issues with pvp since 1.2.

They should not start when a server imbalance is detected. Keep the people in the holding queue until it is equal for both sides. Matches like voidstar are pretty much over if you have to wait another few minutes while your side is down people

Well he did also say

So we will have to see how long they are willing to wait.

Guys-I apologize for what I know is probably a repeated question, but I have lost track of the thread a little.

I recently returned to the game and the guys in the GAF guild have all said "come join us whenever you are ready!" and that sort of welcoming thing. The problem is, I seriously cannot decide what character to play.

I cannot decide what to play so badly that it has almost crippled my efforts to actually ENJOY the game-I am at a point where I most wanted to play a Jedi-so I have rolled every single one available. I have the following:

28 Sentinel
20 Shadow
18 Guardian
17 Sage

I pretty much ruled out the Sage, which leaves me constantly flipping through the other three. I like the concept and look of the Sentinel and his two sabers the best, but don't really enjoy any of the trees and find the number of abilities required to play even remotely effectively just absurd. Add to that the fact that you are a paper tiger and it is hard to play.

I like the guardian for the ease of play compared to the Sentinel, but in a way he feels much weaker from a DPS perspective with a little bit of added survivability. I think I like the abilities and trees better too.

I like the Shadow from a quality of life perspective-very easy to play, much simpler rotation, a reasonable mix of force powers to melee and good survivability in PvE-but I have no use for or desire for the rogue-like cloaking mechanic, and it doesn't feel like..Star Wars?

I am fairly sure I want to play a Jedi, but did get a Trooper, Bounty Hunter, and Agent to level 10. They have interesting mechanics and the Agent is pretty spectacularly fun, but something about the Empire turns me off.

I guess I am just asking for any advice and help you all can provide in helping me finally choose a character and stick with it and not waste all my TOR time switching between classes.

Sentinel and Shadow's are both very strong (sent's are key bind heavy). I'll give you the biggest pro's of both (obviously this is all based on opnion here).

Sent:
Best dps in game
Better story (especially since you past the beginning part)

Shadow pro's
Much easier to play
Very viable tank (less annoying than guardian's to play).

OK thanks this is definitely the feedback I'm looking for...the problem for me is that I WANT to like the Sentinel more-dual lightsabers, straight up melee dps-but the FOTM spec is Watchman and I can't stand it, Combat is too burst heavy, and like you said-the keybinds are...excessive.

How would you compare a Vengeance Guardian at endgame to the other two in terms of a. ease of play/leveling and b. end game viability? This might be the...in between I'm looking for in terms of ease of play and sort of making me feel like star wars..if that makes sense.

I have a 50 Marauder, 50 Guardian, 30 Shadow/Sage so I will do my best to answer.

The main difference between Marauder and Guardian is utility.

Sent : IMO is one of the best healer killers in the game for PvP. Their talents allow for one of the shortest interrupt cd's in the game as well as a move that reduces inc healing. They can also dish out a massive amount of single target damage, especially if being supported by a healer. They also have quite a few abilities which allow them to soak up damage, and stealth in combat if they wind up getting focused.

In PvE my Marauder (champ/columni gear) can pull boss aggro off of a tank in HM's if I go full burn.

Their main drawback is they are one of the only classes in the game that has no push/pull ability. This can make matches like Huttball extremely annoying if the enemy gets on one of the catwalks, you have no way to get them off.

In PvE they also fall prey to what every melee class in every game has issues with, and that's positioning. Any boss that knockbacks/aoe/swipes etc means downtime for your dps as you are not able to hit the boss unless you are in range. I've never had an issue with enrage timers, but you do need to move more than say a Trooper who can constantly dps even when moving.

Guardian: I run mine as a tank, but 1.2 made their Vig spec quite powerful as well. Their DPS is never as high or bursty as a Sent, but even with that as a full tank spec I still land hits for upwards of 4k with only one piece of Battlemaster gear so far. In PvP I have the utility of not one but two leaps, as well as force push for getting people away from objectives. Also guarding in PvP means 3 medals within a minute after the WZ starts.

Survivablity in PvP is meh at best, simply because of how the defensive stats work in PvP. With warding call, focused defense and saber ward I can basically become immortal for 10 which makes ball running in Huttball extremely fun.

If you want to DPS in PvE I would say go for Sent over Guardian. You wont have the burst/dps that most HM groups are looking for unless you work on your gear extensively before going in on the Guard, and the Sent can offer more overall to the group than the Guard can. If you want to PvP, it really is up to which play style you like better, lower dps for higher utility = Guard, higher dps for lower utility = Sent.

You ruled out Sage so I will skip it.

Shadow: To me Shadow is one of the best solo killers in the game. If they get the drop on you, it can be a hard time for any class to shake them off. You have essentially 4 interrupts if you use your skills correctly, one of which is a knockdown that can be used out of stealth if traited correctly. They have slightly less straight DPS output than say a Sent, but again have more utility/mobility because they have insta cast abilities that can be used at range/on the move.

Their main drawback is light armor, which can make them squishier than the other classes, especially if you did not go up the tanking tree.

Sorry for the long post, let me know if it helps.

Sentinel - dual lightsaber wielder of death. Advisable if all you want to do is damage, damage, damage.

Guardian - very versatile, fun class--not as high dps as the marauder but they are still close. Play if you want to be a versatile classic 1 lightsaber dude that can tank or dps.

Shadow - One of the most fun classes in the game, you have a plethora of abilities at your disposal, from stealth to knockbacks to stuns to interrupts, etc... Also one of the strongest classes in PvP. Advisable if you want a double bladed stealther that's a boss in PvP and can tank or dps in both PvE and PvP.

This is exactly the type of help I wanted (to everyone that has answered as well) and has definitely given some things to think about. For instance-for the first time ever playing an MMO, I do random PvP even at low levels, and enjoy it, and even do pretty well sometimes. So that is a huge attraction for me now. As I mentioned, I was all about the Sentinel initially-two lightsabers of death, all dps, all the time. But the horrible survivability in the late 20s in PvE kinda bummed me out and learning the keybinds was giving me carpal tunnel.

I think you all have confirmed what I thought-what I want is utility and DPS, and the Guardian and Shadow excel at those. So, now-do I want the traditional Star Wars guy or the more versatile, maybe more powerful Shadow?

I think the Shadow is easier to level, from what I've been reading, so that might be a factor. I think I will play them both a bit more tonight and try to make a final call.

Honestly, you seem to be enamored with the Sentinel (so that's why I'm ruling out the Guardian, I don't think it's worth having two of the same base class on the same side with the legacy change). What hurts the Guard/Sentinel is that you lack any decent cc, which hurts while leveling while the Shadow gets a sap which makes leveling/heroic groups easier.

In your case I would probably make the Shadow the main, and use the credits you earn from it to help supplement your Sentinel alt, so leveling the alt won't be as frustrating.

Been stuck at 6/10 for over 3hrs now (had a couple exploding of my character), so that I have given-up finishing it.
If it happens, it happens.

Hey guys, I just re-subbed.

I'd like to join Gaf Empire. How is the population and PvP queues on Keller's Void?

Before I quit, I primarily just did PvP on my Operative and didn't really do anything on the PvE side other than run HM's to get my Biochem stuff crafted.

I would not worry about it, unless it tiers you get the same experience that you do from doing one of the 35+ level space dailies

Unless you really really want the DNA samples and the Antidote

On my server people have just been crowding around the bank area where you spawn after fleet passing to spread the infection. I generally just jumped off the VIP area after getting feverish to speed up the process though. Managed to get my green-black crystal pretty quickly by doing that.

Sadly the more important issues like broken class balance since 1.2 arent mentioned. Melee DPS has gotten so retardedly overpowered in 1.2

Melee in this game is designed so poorly because its far too mobile.

Eh idk; snipers are probably the most underrated class in the game right now and can do insane damage from 30 yards away, are unchargable, and have leg shot + a knockback to keep you away. Sorcs are pretty squish, but the amount of tools packed into that class is insane--most sorcs are baddies though so they try to fight melees IN melee and get punished. Mercs are the only real class I honestly feel a little bad for. No interrupt, good mitigation, but I feel like they do nothing to me--I just interrupt their tracer and dance around them; they might knock me back and pop a shield that allows them to live a lot longer, but they are finished.

Ranged classes are always the easiest to PvE with, but usually harder to PvP (at least from my perspective from playing different MMOs) with because they require careful positioning and lots of kiting. You can't fight a melee in melee as a ranged--you will lose. Because a melee can't have the uptime of a ranged, they deal a lot more damage but are more susceptible to slows, roots, etc... and need to be in the center of a fight while a ranged guy can stand 30 yards away and dps away.

Melee are too mobile? I don't know if I can agree with that, no dps spec has a grapple (except powertechs maybe?); and the rest have 1-2 abilities max to close the gap. Marauders have charge (they can use vanish offensively but then you can punish them as they won't have it to escape). Juggs have charge and force push which refreshes charge, but probably have the lowest PvP damage in the game of any dps spec. Operatives have stealth. Assassins have stealth and sprint. Powertechs have a charge and a grapple. I really don't see the problem. Most ranged classes in turn have 2+ abilities to deal with gap closers or an annoying melee.

I'd say the problem with PvP, if any, is the lack of rated warzones. Regular warzones are a mess because the gear discrepancy increased exponentially with this patch (battlemaster vs recruit/champion is HUGE), and all the battlemasters are stuck in regular wz's waiting for rateds. Once we get rateds, we get regular wz's for fresh 50s, alts, and decently geared peeps; while the coordinated groups of BMs move to rateds where we can see strats start to develop and get a better look at what truly is overpowered and uncounterable and what is just a pubstomper spec/class (operatives are probably the biggest example of this--I'm going to say they will be one of the weakest rated dps, but will still absolutely destroy regular warzones becaue they are pure gankers designed to win 1v1s and piss you off).
