3DS firmware update - 4/25 FOLDERS!!!

I fell for the hype and put all my games into folders, but then I realized I didn't like how it looked. I spent more time taking them out of folders than putting them in.

I still have a folder for Trailers, Demos, and Apps, but I like seeing my game collection all on the main grid. :)

e: eShop
D: Demos
T: Trailers (from last years E3)
Star: apps I rarely/never use

Demos and Trailers are pretty redundant and might as well go into the Star folder, but whatever.

Haha, I did the exact same thing! J for junk! Most of the default 3DS stuff is in there (music player, camera, safety warning nonsense, etc.)

Did anyone notice that the E-shop has gotten a reshuffle as well? Options and Chart Icons are now in a second row beneath the actual shop content displays. It does a lot to increase functionality I'd say and goes to show that Nintendo is indeed listening to feedback (how did we end up this way? lol)

Yep! It's still a mess imo but it's easier to find a lot of stuff. As long as the stuff on the bottom bar never changes it will be good enough I suppose. The store as a whole was sorely missing a virtual console tab to see everything, I can't remember the others atm but they really should have permanent tabs at the bottom for VC, 3DS exclusives, 3D classics, and DSi Ware. I think that would cover most of the games.

It turns out that after finally getting folders, I realized I actually prefer having everything on my system menu. :p I don't like things "hidden" away, in case someone pokes through my 3DS and sees a cool game.

I only have a folder for three demos and a folder for two trailers. Everything else is out in the open.

Goodbye forever, Health & Safety Information icon! Suck my dick.

Christ, I am so glad to be rid of that thing uglying up my home screen.

hahahaha, I actually thought I tried to put it in a folder and it wouldn't go so then I tried to delete it and you can't so I put it way off to the right, the last bottom spot on the interface so it's nowhere to be seen.

My folders:

- Games (eShop exclusives)
- 3D Classics
- Apps
- GBA
- NES
- GB/GBC
- DSiWare
- Trailers
- Demos

Most of them start with a symbol to identify them easier. Hope they let you use icons in the future or color-code the folders, but this update is very good as it is.

Only thing I couldn't put away was the Settings icon and the 3DS game icon.

The settings icon doesn't bother me much, it offends me so little I have it right in the first row(I'll actually use it from time to time).

That hazard symbol though, get the fuck out of here, go back where you came from.

Did they just change the eShop again. Earlier this morning the icons that used o be on the left hand side and including news were at the bottom. Now they are back on top and the bottom row has buttons for 3DS Software, Demos, Virtual Console and DSi Ware.

EDIT: HOLY MOLY! FARMING SIMULATOR DEMO. How did I not know about this? Thank you demo button.

Yeah noticed the change aswell, seems like a better layout.

The eShop redesign looks terrible, but it's functionally much better:

The bottom row is for content types.

The top row is for curated displays of content.

Prior to now you had to scroll through the big monolithic shelf which mixed the two, and the order was never really based on anything in particular. The other problem with the curation is that often times, the curation was not any good. You'd get categories like "Adventure", that would include games from 5 genres none of which are adventure. Or "Feel Good Classics". Or "Fun in the Sun". Ugh. But at least now powerusers can easily access their use cases without need for the handholding curation.

Things in general seem to be loading faster, too. Particularly the Channel Data in Console Settings and Swapnote.

Oh thank god for this. Finally I am ready for the inevitable influx of major eShop masterpieces! I wish that I could buy full games on the eShop...

Just finished organizing my folders.

I have Apps, 3D Games, Videos, and Retro for all virtual console, ambassador, and dsiware games.

I left Colors!3D, the eshop, and swapnote on the main menu.

Ha, thank's GAF, I just stole all your best organization and amalgamated them into my own, perfect system. >:D

Off-topic, but does anyone know what the updates to Gameboy games actually do?
Don't really fancy taking up block space if I don't know what it does.

Well at least Health & Safety Information was just an icon that we can now hide and not a message every time we turn the system on like the Wii.

Nice to have folders, but it's typical Nintendo backwards thinking that I can't show an image, like a NES logo, on the folder icon or at least show more than one letter on it. I still can't organize things as I want to. Vita has no folders, no, but it's still much easier to organize things.

High-five for the Covenant of the Plume icon. :p

Definitely like the addition of folders, but more importantly, it seems publishers are wasting no time updating their games. Hello to five new levels in Mighty Switch Force.

Oh, they changed the eShop layout since the update went live. At first they had all the options and perminant icons on the bottom half and left just the curated categories on top. Now they've moved all that stuff back to their original position and quick access catagories have been created for the bottom. Weird. Well can say I'm against the quick access catagories. Took way too steps to get there before. Would like to see them add a third row for the options though (or better yet they could just get rid of them given that they're already located in the menu anyway).

What were you looking for? I think they should have done labels over folders but whatever.
I want to be able to add images of my own as folder icons, or system logos, or labels as you say. A single letter or digit on a folder works well if you sort everything in alphabetic order but it's like having codes if you're using it in another way.

I agree a set of icons/logos with Nintendo characters and such would be nice for quick recognition. Or folder colors. But certainly you should be able to organize, it's just more of a cosmetic issue now.

It's more than a cosmetic issue imo. I could use M for Mario games, but where should I place Metroid? Z for Zelda, but what about Zenonia? A for Adventure games, but what about Action games? Etc. Every solution I find comes with a "but what about..." scenario. :/ It would be super awesome with a pixel based icon editor where you could draw a Mario sprite, Triforce logo, or something like that.

Anyone else getting a ton of errors when trying to update? A coworker and I are trying to get our Folder on, but we're being thwarted by repeated errors!

I like this idea. You could even add a social aspect.

Huh? Tell me more, i'm stuck at work ATM.

Nintendo Power has an article in this month's issue about WayForward adding five news levels, enhancing the 3D effect, and adding a quick-retry option. All of these are free, by the way, and the price for the game will stay the same. No date on the update, though. The mag just says, "very soon."

Mine.

Black Star - 3DS Games
White Star - Retro Games
Music Note - Apps and Media
Arrows - Demos

I don't have enough games to split the games folders anymore right now (ambassader am cry) but I will when I do, and hopefully Nintendo will have added specific console icons by then.

Really happy with Nintendo for adding this feature. Looks pretty sweet and it's nice to have bigger icons back. Quite happy with the 3DS OS at this point.
