The Dark Knight Rises (Batman 3) - No Riddler

I wouldn't call him "the best", especially if editing comes in to play. But, he's certainly my favorite. Begins, Prestige, Knight, and Inception are definitely among my favorite movies in the last decade. And I hope Rises is up there with them.

"JUST HOLD ON!"

Thank you. Was driving me crazy. You deserve a reward. Hope WB doesn't find out I'm leaking these:

Nolan is the best director alive for me. Followed closely by Fincher and Scorsese.

Writer/director, maybe. It's difficult to split your attention with a script too.

However, Nolan is NOT a better director that David Fincher.

Fincher, Cameron, Nolan, and R.Scott are the gentleman's club though. If Star Trek 2 ends up being an IMAX masterpiece, Abrams will be well on his way (I greatly enjoyed Super 8 despite it trying to have it's cake and eat it too)..

In terms of writers/directors, PTA and Tarantino trounce Nolan.

Bane's Audio Clears Up And The Bat Dazzles In New Dark Knight Rises Footage

In just a few short months, director Christopher Nolan will be unveiling The Dark Knight Rises, the finale of his Batman trilogy. As we haven’t seen a new trailer since December, many fans have been eagerly anticipating when they might get their next chance to get a look at the film, and it has been revealed that there will be a new trailer for the movie attached to next month’s The Avengers. I, however, just stepped out of the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where I got to see a fresh sizzle reel from the film with plenty of new footage.

Stepping out on the stage at the Colisseum in Caesar’s Palace after an introduction from Warners president Jeff Robinov, Nolan announced that he wouldn’t be showing a at the event trailer, but rather showing a series of short clips and shots with minimal dialogue. He explained this decision by saying that he knew that the audience was filled with members of the National Association of Theater Owners rather than fans clamoring to see the film, so he adjusted accordingly.

The footage began with an excerpt from the prologue that arrived in theaters in December,
featuring Bane (Tom Hardy) taking down a CIA plane
,and I have some terrific news: I understood every word that Bane said. It should be noted that the theater I was in featured some of the most advanced technology in the projection industry, so I don’t know if they changed the audio or if it was just the presentation, but it did raise my confidence in that aspect of the film.

As mentioned, most of the scenes shown were tight and quick and featured little to no context, so here is a list of the stuff that I caught:

Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) dressed as a maid before ripping off the white frills and revealing her black dress

James Gordon (Gary Oldman), as seen in the teaser trailer from last summer, lying in a hospital bed in bad shape

Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) sitting in his Batcave, which still looks very much like a cave

Bruce Wayne and Lucius Fox together in Wayne Enterprises

A team of police officers in raid gear slowly touring through what appear to be subway tunnels

Batman’s new vehicle, The Bat, taking to the air and spinning twisting as it flies over Gotham

Catwoman, in her full costume, leaning down and stealing stuff from a safe

Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard) and Bruce Wayne sharing an intimate kiss

Catwoman sitting on the Batpod and firing at a blocked tunnel in the distance

Miranda Tate saying, “You’ve given them everything,” and Bruce Wayne replying, “Not yet.”

Alfred (Michael Caine) talking about the difficulty of getting back into his old routine.

The character that continues to be a tantalizing mystery is
John Blake
, as played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. While the footage shown today once again didn’t give us any dialogue from the character, it did show quite a bit of him – and in some interesting situations.
In the scenes shown Blake flashes a badge and is quickly seen wielding a shotgun, but the most interesting cut featured a giant bridge crumbling in an explosion and then a reaction shot from Gordon-Levitt. Just as with trailers, it’s hard to know if that will actually be the cut in the final film or if it was done for dramatic effect, but it most definitely had the latter.

At the end of the footage I was left breathless. Anticipation for the finale of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy is at an extreme high and will likely only get more intense as the release date draws closer. Until the new trailer arrives online, to see more from the The Dark Knight Rises head over to our Blend Film Database.

Yeah, he's my favorite too. Others my be better for a variety of reasons, or have individual films that exceed Nolan's filmography, but Nolan's been the most consistent at delivering great films in the last decade.

Fincher's up there too but he had a huge misstep with Benjamin Button, Scorcese had a couple I haven't cared for, Spielberg's been on-and-off his game for a while now, Cameron made one of my favorite movies of all time (T2) but blew an opportunity with Avatar, and Ridley Scott hasn't made a thing I've liked since Gladiator (though everybody says the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut is good...).

Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven DC, and Body of Lies are all great, imo. Ridley sure loves Middle East geopolitics lol.

You know id like to be serious for a moment.

If I ever do go see this movie I'm not going to go in like Cameron fanboy and hate it ala avengers. I will go in with no expectations at all. Do I hate the other Nolan Batman movies? No, I'm just sick of the fans and this pedestals that those films are put on. Movie snobs aside, I'm going to go in(if I do) Ill just be neutral.

Since this page has a bunch of members proclaiming that Nolan is their favourite director, I might as well chime in with agreement. This is a miracle here on GAF.

Just kidding. In all seriousness though, Nolan defined my cinematic tastes during my formative teenage years, beginning with Batman Begins when I was 15. I consider many of his films to be all-timers, and his style and philosophical perspective mesh with me better than any other active filmmaker that I know of. It has nothing to do with the massive popularity he's garnered since The Dark Knight.

4 popcorn movies and Abrams is going top tier? Lets see him handle something more substantial. What is an IMAX masterpiece?

Is that an official tv spot or fan made?
Please say fan made!

Same here the guy is incredible. Don't know where he will be in all time rankings but right now he is clearly the best.

This film was just bad, I had high expectations going in. Didn't even read any of the media for it since I didn't want to be spoiled, though in retrospect that was kind of stupid seeing as how there was only one way it could end.

I can't shake the feeling that this movie is going to be disappointing. Like not terrible or anything but just not quite coming together like it should. I dunno, maybe I just feel that way because it's the 3rd movie. Or because of Catwoman's costume.
