not sure if joke?

I'm being serious. This is good for everyone who enjoys Smash and isn't a butthurt Nintendo fanboy. It means one more (possibly great) game in the genre that Smash created. It also means that Sakurai might lift the best features from this game for the next Smash and/or be driven to make Smash even better because he and his team now have competition.

I'm a bit concerned about how the kill mechanic will play out in 1v1s. Hopefully the game doesn't become campy when one person gets a super or anything.

Really excited for FFA though. What used to be mindless carnage now has a great risk/reward element of strategy. Poach kills with lv1 supers or take the risk of saving up for a lv3 and getting a handful of kills at once?

my favorite part of this thread is the surprised posts considering this has been essentially confirmed by rumor months ago lol.

Loving that comment from earlier about how the existence of this game is just plain wrong. You would think gaffers would be mature enough not to have an allegiance to a brand.

But in any case, it does look good; and that's with only 6 characters revealed. I hope we get a huge roster and some really cool level design.

I wonder why Sony left it so late in the cycle to develop this game though?

I don't like something, therefore no one does, therefore it shouldn't exist. Gotta love dat logic. But that's the internet for you.

The character argument is pretty much down to this. "I haven't played jack shit for games on Playstation platforms and don't know who most of these characters are so Sony doesn't have a roster big enough for this game!"

"Confirmed" is a catchy word here, considering that the "source" had news leaks being debunked (except for this one, I guess)

I'm interested to see what the fighting game vets at Superbot have in store. I'm sure the FGC Smash dudes will eat up higher level stuff like exploiting i-frames and stuff like that, if they exist in this game. I wonder if Sly gets temporary invincibility during his invisibility block teleport, for instance.

I can't imagine they do. Especially with the diminished and collapsing value of the PlayStation brand (I hope Sony realizes they have to give up the brand name soon or face going under with it - the brand has very little real strength in the market anymore imo. Time to rebrand), it just seems like wrong time/place. Fat Princess is some sort of iconic character? Buzz? Patapon worlds? What, did 2 people play Patapon in total? I like Patapon, but the stretching they have to do to get characters that appeal to someone is really nuts. Are they at least going to be able to utilize Crash Bandicoot? To this day Crash is still something I associate with the PS brand, back when it was still relevant.

lol, you sound a little too retarded to add to a ignore list. I hope you post more retarded views on gaming regularly.

Anyway,
I am pretty excited about this game. Sony made gaming 'accessible' and went after people other than children and social outcasts. This gave birth to many franchises and allowed to various 3rd parties to flourish.
I hope this game will represent that. There should be 3rd party characters because that is also what PlayStation represented: freedom for 3rd party developers, freed from Nintendo's censorship. Resident Evil would have never existed if Nintendo had any say in it for example.
edit: whoops forgot the conclusion :p
So a Resident Evil character should be part of the game, because that is also what PlayStation stood, and stands for.

What do you mean by campy?

To clarify: The possibility of gameplay being really slow since a lot has to be invested to score kills. If I get one kill up on you, I can play keep away for a very long time since you'll need to hit me a decent amount to even gain the possibility of scoring.

And the pacing could easily be disrupted. A fast paced back-and-forth match could potentially be slowed to a halt as one player builds up a super, forcing the other player to continually run away.

Just a thought.

I know all of those characters, but I just feel they don't have that same impact that Nintendo properties do. I don't really know why... it's probably because those brands aren't nearly as character-focused, I guess. (Sly Cooper and Parappa excepted)

Oh you're going to last long around here

But why do you want a 1:1 ripoff of Smash Bros. Why not just uh well play Smash Bros. Or play Smash Bros that's surely coming to Wii U, if you need HD.

Mainly because most of my friends play on PS3's. They love SSB but not enough to buy a Wii U I think. Also, this may sound crazy but I like PS characters. :p

Weapons/Items are 100% confirmed. Watch the GT first take video

Ah. Okay that's good to hear. I wasn't paying much attention to the video with it playing in the background. Hope we see crazy ones like the hammer and bats from SSB.

An allegiance to a brand is the only thing convincing anyone that this will be anything other than a steaming pile.

I could be wrong on this, but i don't think there's any studios in SCE that has any experience with fighting games. The SuperBot dudes seem really passionate about this game and they actually happen to have real fighter fans working there. Perhaps it's just a case of having all the pieces together before Sony thought 'hey maybe it's time for a Sony crossover brawler.'

An allegiance to a brand is the only thing convincing anyone that this will be anything other than a steaming pile.

Are you one of those who think they can determine what is fun for everyone? Or are you truly someone with an allegiance to a brand? I think your posting history says it all.

If there are easy ways to source AP, it shouldn't be too hard to use supers on defensive/keep-away players. Especially if they're unblockable.

I don't think it's fair to compare; after all, if Nintendo is the standard for franchise fighters, then any gaming company is going to come up short. I think that it's most important to consider what works as fan service to the PS3 fanbase, not necessarily to the whole world.

My alegiance to all the brands to the point I own all the consoles and handhelds + a gaming PC and play games on all of the above frequently must be malfunctioning since the game doesn't look that bad to me even if its not really my type of game.

Good news for Sony-only gamers, you guys must be happy at this. Hopefully Superbot can get close to Sakurai's precision gameplay tweaking. The screenshots look a bit rough at this stage.

Yeah supers should definitely be unblockable. Demand a lot of skill in placing them, and force the defending player to do something crazy to avoid them.

And someone like Parappa would be the anti-camper lol. Spam boombox all day son

With so much focus on supers they REALLY have to do a good job with every character here. It made it sound like level 3 will be destructive as hell, but I don't foresee level 1s being unblockable instant kills. It'd be a shame if a couple characters end up being powerful and fun in general movesets, but end up with weak supers and can't effectively score points.

I took a look at the trailer from a distance and actually couldn't tell if it was Super Smash Bros footage they were showing, or this PoS game.

Half the idea of this kind of game is throwing together popular characters. If the characters aren't popular that's a problem. If not many people are playing Sony games, or not the right games, or not remembering the characters, or don't care about the characters - those are problems. The quality of the roster is directly tied to familiarity.

It's not just comparison though. In and of themselves, the characters just don't feel that strong. But whatever, I'm a lapsed Playstation fan, I skipped the PS2 generation entirely. As long as it's a worthwhile game...

Sakurai should drop the bomb at E3 that the next Smash is a wii U launch title and will end up being nearly day and date with this. A literal war would erupt...it would be incredible.

I mean it seems pretty simple

-Smash Bros.-style gameplay with no new Smash in the near future

-Will most likely have decent online

-Developed by a group of people that are said to have been associated with Sony Fucking Santa Fucking Monica before forming this studio

That would be a bomb. A bomb so big it's impossible to drop. From what little I've heard they don't appear to be very deep in development yet...

I'm not sure I would want a SSB game that was created in less than a year for new hardware :/

I hope Nathan Drake, Cole MacGrath, and Sackboy makes it in.

Cole is a shoe-in because of his powers and such. I think Nate Drake is much more recognizable, but I'm not sure how they'd work him into the game. Radec, by the nature of the Killzone universe and its weaponry, has much more "imagination headroom" to work with, if you get me.

I think the LBP level idea is genius. Hopefully the level "build" isn't the same every time you play.

Yup. Its hilarious its been known it was very SSB like and its not shocking to me that some are getting upset its real. Its like Nintendo owns the "formula" to make a brawler like this. These type of games are about the characters so any corp can make one, even MS. Not sure why they are mad at that. "Oh no, they have tons of ips but they can't do a ssb like game, nope that's Nintendo exclusive."

Oh, I know. I don't expect a Wii-U smash until 2014 or so, I was just imagining how hilarious that scenario would be.

Or they're trying to make us think the game isn't very deep in development, specifically so that Sony plays their card with this game, and then they counter with theirs. Oh shit.

Me either. I want them to take their time, even though the delays they announced on the brawl dojo pretty much ruined my life at the time.

I'm not even sure what that is supposed to mean? You stepped back a couple feet and this "Piece of shit" game looked exactly like smash bros? Are you saying smash bros is a piece of shit game? You may have to elaborate on this train of thought, or on second thought just keep it that way so alot of the people attacking this game have something else to attack.

This is good news to everyone who likes Smash Bros gameplay, not just "Sony-only gamers". I'm a big Smash/Nintendo fan, but this is certainly good news to me.

EDIT:

So I get a new smash bros now and one on the Wii U in like 2/3 years? This is great news!

Yep. Exactly this for us Smash fans who aren't Nintendo loyalists.
