This is from a set of photos taken with an infrared filter.
Wow, it looks beautiful.

Was that taken with a telescope or something? Venus always looks like a very bright "star" on the night sky, but actually seeing the planet like that??
You can actually see it like some star on the blue sky without a telescope. Weather needs to be perfectly clear though and I think the closer you are to the equator the better.

Also the cool thing is that you actually can only see it when you know where to look on the sky. There's some special spot in our eyes that's particularly sensitive to light, so only when you get the Venus into that specific spot you'll see it. It's quite funny because you could perfectly swear that there's absolutely nothing in the sky and then *bam* all of the sudden there it is, and you'll be wondering how it can be that you didn't see it.

You can see Venus transit across the Sun on June 6th.
With something to block the light, like with any other time you would look at the Sun of course. It'll probably be the last time you can see in your lifetime.
Oh nice, maybe I still have some of those solar eclipse glasses lying around.

holy shit. i gotta see that. but that pic above us confusing to me. looks all melancholia and shit. a giant planet ready to slam into us. how was that taken and what is really going on in the pic.

I don't think the large object is Venus. I think it's a telescope image so the moon is huge and you can just make out the curve of Venus behind it.

Pretty sure if it were real you'd need 100% perfect conditions, weight, etc for it to actually snap onto the other track in the perfect position.

Hey, I recognize that. It's in downtown Vancouver, a stairway leading from street level down to a university campus (and small skating rink). They had it painted with a mural for the Olympics, it was pretty nice. Then they removed that, and it's back to plain 'ol concrete. Speaking as someone who doesn't use a wheelchair, it feels a lot safer than it looks in that picture.

I wish I lived where some of these other pictures are from, though! Good gravy!

That should be a level on Tony Hawk's.
