Atlus USA Announces Persona 4 Golden (Vita) for NA Release

I hope all that extra voicing doesn't force them to overly compress the audio like with P3P. Couldn't stand that. :(

The game should fit on a 4GB card without anymore compression than the PS2 version. How bad was the compression? Worse than Devil Survivor: Overclocked?

I can't directly compare the two because I haven't played Overclocked, but voices definitely took a slight hit from FES to P3P. Everyone sounded distractingly sibilant to me. Kinda sucked since the music and sound effects seemed good enough. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as voice samples on a Nintendo DS or anything (like TWEWY). Most people probably didn't even notice, to be honest.

i'm not mad. i'm furious! every time my finger hits a key on my keyboard it explodes. don't you see the trouble giant bomb causes?
Living up to their name at least.

As long as it's more like Tales of the Abyss (... or what I heard of P3P) I can deal, if it's like Blazblue on Vita then fuck that.

I think that is more to do with the nature of UMD size at the time. I mean, if you look at P3P, sound compression is really the least of it's problems in terms of cutting back from the PS2 version. Half the gameplay was basically turned into menu's for starters.
So far with P4G we've seen the exact opposite of any kind of cutbacks across the board, there's less cause to worry as of now until more concrete info rolls out.

I don't own a Vita, and with the Wii U coming this year I was hoping to hold off on buying a Vita, but this is tempting, very tempting.

That's not the problem. The problem is that it ONLY talks about it's the best rpg ever. Maybe a quick sentence or w/e explaining the game? The premise? idk.

I guess there is a point to be made that this is just an email thing.

Its the Atlus fan newsletter. I think if you're getting this email you already know the basic premise of Persona 4.

I have managed to go all this time with a basically net neutral judgment on the whole Giant Bomb thing, but I swear to God you guys are testing my resolve on that now.

I wasn't aware the Charlie Tunoku thing was overdone, but I stand by what I've said. It's just a playful post.

You can wait till Nintendo drops price of Wii U after people don't buy it due to lack of games in first year ;)

Another announcement, another reason to buy a Vita as soon as the Ceramic White gets released!
I'm a little worried about the voices though... I tend to get attached to character voices either good or bad, a change always sounds weird to me.
I hope the extra content makes it worth.

The Endurance Run was great 'cause it exposed the Persona (and Shin Megami Tensei) series to pretty much a whole new audience. More fans, more sales, more games.

Its funny how they could have gotten in a lot of trouble for it but it worked out instead.

plus Charlie Tunoku for life :p

I may end up getting this, even though I probably won't have a Vita for a few years. :x

i'm trying to figure out if i'm gonna do the same. i'm waiting to see what the pre-order bonus will be.

at the latest, i'll own a vita when pso2 hits, so it shouldn't be as bad as a wait as you.

I would never naturally get the one that requires you to change your persona 5 times in one battle.

Collecting all Personas and Maxing out all the Social Links?

Good luck with that Platinum.

That's not at all difficult, honestly.

Depending on if they want Max Social Links in one run, this is completely do-able. It'll take two-three or more playthroughs for the fusions and compendium and following a chart there but simply go through and finish the S. Links you missed on the others. Better yet the ones you didn't max can actually speed up the process on the game since you can focus on those and ignore everything else in the process with your compendium.

Most of those achievements don't seem pretty hard. Defeat
Margaret
, Defeat the Reaper, Acquire all Personas, Max out the Social Links. Nothing seems really hard among the Gold/Silver ones.

Pretty much all of them are doable with some effort on New Game +

(People who haven't played Persona 4 may wish to not look at that achievement list; There are spoilers for the whole game.)

Nothing in there about one run as far as I can tell.

Then completely do-able. Make a checklist of the S. Links you did. Do the others on another playthrough. Missed any? One more playthrough (depending on when they unlock and all that) and you're done.

Compendium is only hard due to the fusions and having to know what exactly to fuse. Otherwise it's cake to keep a checklist.

Not as frustrating as "Treasure Hunter" in FF13's list. Because this isn't too much a grind.

The achievement list does reveal some interesting things. I'm spoiler tagging these as they may or may not be spoilers. They don't appear to be endgame spoilers, but they do potentially reveal some new stuff for The Golden.

There's an achievement for rescuing the new character Marie. Possibly a new dungeon? There's also an achievement for drinking coffee at the Chagall Cafe from Persona 3.

That isn't that difficult. Maxing all Social Links wasn't difficult in the original.

Collecting all Personas might give you difficulty if you constantly reset the Persona combination for, like, an hour. :lol But if you just want the Persona, you're not going to care, are you?

Gonna need two playthroughs at least. Some of these are seriously making me rethink my schedule that I wrote up for the original game, though, since it seems they added quite a bit of stuff. Edit: Or you can keep multiple saves to do some of these, and for the ones like... 'make lunch 5 times' or 'go to the movies 3 times'... if they're going to mess up your schedule, you can just do them, get the trophies, and then reload your save.

The fishing one sounds like it'd be the most annoying. lol

I really wish there was a way to transfer your PS2 save to this game and save some time. :p

-Get a Fusion Accident

I've completed persona 3 & 4 twice, Nocturne once, almost finished Strange Journey, and i'm 20 hours in P3P and i've never had a fusion accident.

what a terrible idea for a trophy =\
why are fusion accidents even a thing in these games

at least there isn't a trophy for completing Margaret's quests, most of those were terrible

i actually used a guide to max all social links in one playthrough in persona 4... and i kinda felt guilty afterwards. i think when i replay persona 4 i'll play through blind, and i'll definitely be doing that for persona 5.

ps: pray to the gods that the white vita comes over here so i can finally buy one.

Ah, good point. That will make getting one of the spoiler trophies
Visiting Nanako 3 times in the hospital
much easier. Since, sadly, doing that is kind of a waste of time.

Won't really help for the lunch one though. You can only do that every week or two since Nanako has to go shopping for it. But, you're doing two playthroughs already, so it's easy enough to do it on whichever one you're not maxing the social links for (and really, it probably wouldn't stop you from doing that anyway unless they really increased the amount of stuff to do).

That's tied with completing all the social links as doing her quests increases your rank for the Empress social link.

I forgot about that, but those are the fusion requests which are fine
it's the fetch quests that are terrible

Has anything been said about letting players pick what skills to pass during fusions?

perfectly doable trophies imo. All major gameplay related stuff are there which will mostly come naturally. The only thing difficult there imo is beating
Margaret
, never tried it though...

The only difficult trophies there will be the "bronze fusion accident" one - I only saw one of those in 120 hours on P4 - and catching the largest fish which is down to dumb luck.

Yeah, but the controller vibrations helped you! I hope there's another way for them to simulate these on the Vita!

Are they going to add the skill cards from P3 Portable?

Those things were pretty sweet since I couldn't be bothered with the inheritance system.

Hate to see the idea get nixed.

So pumped for this have persona 4 but 60 gig died out halfway through game. Ready to finally play this again.

Deal 999 damage in one strike

i'm not happy about those kind of trophies

It's been a while so i don't remember if P4 has a damage limit ( i think not ) but all chalenges/trophies that required to do a required amount of damage need to cease to exist ... seriously ...

Doing that damage is actually really easy with a certain persona and you will need to have the ability to do so to get the other trophies...so yeah, no real drama.

I need to finish P3P before this comes out, but TBH I'm kind of afraid of getting burnt out of the series by then.
