Portal 2 New DLC = Puzzel/Level editor/creator.

I ended up playing with the Portal 2 editor the exact same way as with Minecraft, I build machinery and circuits and then struggle to find a practical use for them. So for a change I built something that already exists in the Portal 2 campaign but can't be done in the editor (easily).

A floor button with a timer, the puzzle isn't much but it does the job illustrating the potential use.

it's funny because when i did your map this morning i did 80% of the puzzle, couldn't figure out how to bowl the cube, then found kscorp's exploit xd

Aww, I come back from my last final exam and find Feep banned? :(

Time to work on breaking it apart in his absence.

Anyway Feep, it seems you fixed the exploit I was using.

Unfortunately, your map build has failed slightly. The lighting is all screwy, everything is dark, and portalable surfaces appear pitch black. At least, I assume it's the map and not me, other maps loaded fine.

Now, to try beating it.

Same issue here. Since it was the first version I tried, I thought he was just being clever or something!

Right now The 12 Angry Tests and The Search for Science are the 2 best maps/map packs I've played. I'm only up to part 3, but so far The 12 Angry Tests is very high quality and well designed. I could see them fitting right into Portal 2. I'm sure he had these maps made beforehand in Hammer editor though.

Sounds like he maybe accidently deleted the lights

Hah at the end but there is a bit too much running around in the huge rooms imo. It feels as if the same puzzle could be in 1/5th the space.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm working with the real state to make it more efficient.

Also lowered the wall to make the jump more effective.

This seems to be an issue with the latest patch.

anyone having issues playing co-op between PC and PS3? buddy did the update for the DLC on PC and we tried 4-5 to connect for co-op tonight, loads all the way on PS3 and I get the "waiting for partner to connect" screen, and then it returns to menu. on PC, loading indicator fills in 6 dots and then it fails out.

anyone able to successfully connect for co-op PC and PS3?

WOW at 12 Angry Tests. It's like a full on mini-DLC. I encourage everyone to try it. (Note, it's not made with the built-in editor, it's just submitted to the workshop.)

Oh and I beat Feeps map. I think I broke it at the very end, if you need to use gel at that point. It was fun. But it was much easier since everyone gave hints (such as bowling, it would probably have taken me a bit longer if I didn't know about that).

Yeah, 12 Angry Tests is pretty damn awesome. I really should get around to finishing it :p

I challenge a GAFer to recreate the office (TV show) in portal 2. Remember the CS mod? Cmon gaf, make it happen :)

I'll even help with a map:

Anyone up for the challenge?

Obviously had to take some liberties with room size and position.

Oh god, I ripped all the VA of Cave from the DLC, its just great. They reused the dialog from when Cave was put into a computer, all the stuff is great. It also makes me wonder if the Mutliverse and Cave will play into a future Half Life or Portal game.

Dear lord, how was 12 Angry Tests made? It's pro quality, stuff that isn't in the editor.

Made in Hammer, the tool that everyone used to make Portal 2 maps (and in fact all maps for all source engine games) before this came out. Same tool Valve uses to make their maps basically.

Although, it's a LOT harder to use properly compared to this new editor.

It took me like
2 tries to get the cube to land on the button by throwing in the air, just place a portal on the slanted wall and another right behind the red lasers and dropping the cube.

And here I was thinking that between my friend and I we had playtested every style of running through the map. Made a second revision that forces you to solve the last room (at least, I'm pretty sure) and removed the evidently useless gel. Also changed the end to allow for two solutions, one easy, one needlessly complex.

I enjoyed your map, it had a great sense of scale and reminded me of a Portal 1 map. Only issue I could find is that if you dropped the cube in the fizzler or water, another one wouldn't spawn, making it impossible to finish.

Should have known. Feel stupid.

I just finished yours just then, I enjoyed it but there's a way to easily skip the second puzzle room.

If you head to the faith plates and look over the fizzler (the ball wall) into the 3rd room with the two gel dispensers, you can portal into that room using the angled panel essentially skipping the turret room and making those puzzles useless.
Also even if you fix the visability of that one you can also portal to under the blue gel dispenser while you're bouncing around the faith plates. Give it a look, you'll see.
Despite those and the sparsity of the last 3 rooms I thought the map was well made.

Edit: Oh, and as a side note I thought it was amusing when you dispatch the 3rd turret with the blue gel and he spends the rest of the map bouncing around everywhere. ;)

It's not a bad tool.

Took me 22 minutes to get up to scratch with the UI and remake the first chamber I ever made in hammer.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=68497865

Probably not worth playing, doesn't have much a 'puzzle' and the most frustrating failure state you can imagine. I didn't check to see if you could tweak the jumper speed, which is how I alleviated the problem in Hammer.

Also hit 2 Error 10s and 1 Error 16 while publishing. Keep at it!

I realise you did this as a test but if you want to alleviate the annoyance of failing to the main puzzle, for those who try it,
just add a reachable portable wall so they can port from the 'landing platform' to the beginning so they won't have to die to restart or just remove the floor altogether as they need to die/restart in the event of failing to act quick enough anyway.
It's stupidly simple but it's not a half bad puzzle for what it is.

I still think that having shortcuts or tricks to complete tests is valid, and puzzles should not necessarily force you to have exactly one correct solution. It adds replay value and competition!

I made a map so big and complex that it runs at like 15 fps, even on a decent computer.

Since everyone seems to post their maps here too, here's mine:

This chamber is more of a "find out what to do next" kinda thing.
The whole chamber can be solved with only 6 placed portals.
Hope you guys like it :)

I enjoyed it. There's was one bit
where I went up the tractor beam early and put the franken cube on the button to switch the beam, saw that there was nothing else there for me so I went back down. Come back later with the box and saw the beam was still orange. I had a quick glance around and was disappointed to think that I would have had to restart if I couldn't reverse the beam but saw the button near the door and it switched the beam for me. :) It's just a small touch but I felt it was well thought out and I think a lot of map creators would have forgotten that.
I liked the box puzzle too.

I will be trying your revised version later when i get home :).

Thanks for the feedback on mine, glad you enjoyed the verticality: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=68488777, I should put in a dispenser for sure.

Hey you mind trying out all the changes in my map, I added some puzzle elements and made big changes since last time you played it, appreciate it:

I find this happens more if you have turrets bouncing with blue gel all over the place, do you have any room like that?

Thanks, that's nice to hear :)
That special button was the reason why I pulled that map yesterday (after having it uploaded the day before) so I could fix this annoyance.

I am also going to copy and paste here. Since this thread is clearly more active than the community thread... maybe the community thread should be posted in the OP?

Had fun creating this map and thanks to a happy mistake, there are at least 2 solutions to reaching the exit door (would love to know about more if you find them). Shouldn't take more than 1 - 2 minutes to complete. I tried to focus on a mix of Logic and reflex. Really looking for feedback on this one.
