Halo 4 Boxart Revealed

One of the very best box arts I've ever seen, easily, but what is that weird rippling in the top left?

After the final scene, a still image of Master Chief as pictured on the cover is on the screen. Just as it seems the game is over, a droplet falls unto the picture, and reveals it is under a body of water. The camera pans back to reveal a single tear rolling down the cheek of a young boy. He is sitting on a bench at an asylum, holding a tin can, colored green by markers, with a small part of the can's original orange color left alone.

"Come along now John," says the nurse, "it's time for your medication." As John passes by, he notices the other inmates. Old Man Johnson was a nice man. If he managed to take his pills and stay calm, they let him smoke his cigar. He loved those cigars. He would wear his old marine hat. A dusty, green thing, but when he had his hat and cigar, he seemed to be back in his glory days. He was good friends with Mr. Keyes, as they both loved to talk about wars and guns. If Mr. Keyes wasn't with Johnson, then it was the rare few occasion that his daughter Miranda visited. His eyes would glow, no matter how few times a year she visited, nor how cold she was.

John noticed his old friend as he passed through the second hallway. He always wondered who was behind that little camera lens. He knew the men in room 343, under the camera, were always watching him. They're always watching, and the seem to know all. No matter what John did, they had already known, and already been watching. The floating eyes seemed to follow him step by step.

John finally made it to his room, accompanied by the nurse. He knew what time it was. It was time for him to go to sleep. They would wake them up when they needed him, he knew. When they needed someone to stand up. "This won't hurt one bit," she said. As John started to doze off, everything around him started to blur...he could barely make anything out...the nurse bumbled something out that John couldn't hear. Something about going into shock. He didn't know. He always thought that she was odd. Courtney-Anna was nice though, she always cared for John....he looked to the left at his green and orange painted tin can....a glance at his nature poster that he got from his mother...he hated that poster...he hated all the animals on the poster as well, the monkeys, the squids, they were all despised...then John remembered his father, and looked to the poster to the right...right by the can...they were his and his father's favorite team when he was still alive....they would go to every single Spartan game, always dressed in green and orange...but no more...John decided to glance up for one last time...he saw a water-stain in the roof that he always had noticed...it looked like a halo.

I'm out of the Halo loop ever since it stopped being a PC game. have any of the latest games in the series featured an actual halo plant? you know, the games namesake?

if not perhaps they should change the name. it doesn't make any sense calling it halo when there is no halo planet.

Halo 1/2/3 all had Halo rings. Reach isn't a Halo game. Don't know what happens in Halo 4, but the planet m cheif and cortona approach during the Legendary Ending of Halo 3 is most likely a Dyson sphere, and could easily be classified as a Halo Sphere or something like that.

The only Halo game without a Halo in it whatsoever (in multiplayer or single) is ODST. Which is technically a side story to Halo 3 and still directly relates to the Halo installations.

Reach has one in the end credits, and a disc multiplayer map and two DLC maps take place on a Halo ring. Wars has a multiplayer map take place on one. Of course, this doesn't automatically mean there'll be a Halo in Halo 4.. but at this point the name of the game has become bigger than the story (I don't know of a better way to write that) and now indicates that the game takes place in a certain universe of fiction than actually literally taking place on Halo installations.

Halo 3's awful. Just awful.

Halo 3 was/is by far the weakest box art of the series.
I think ODST is probably the best but its a sidestory so ill exculde it.

Halo 4 now has the best boxart in my opinion.

Are you talking about the cables that are too close to the camera as such out of focus or what?
Cuz im not seeing any rippling anywhere

I expected a lot worse. That looks awesome. Especially awesome, considering Halo has been cursed with awful covers its entire life.

I was expecting it to be that shitty half-anime look they first revealed at E3 last year. This, though? I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm not "getting my hopes up," I'm just saying there's really no reason for Microsoft not to include it, especially since it's been in a Halo title by 343 Industries before and Microsoft's E3 conferences are 90% Kinect related these days.

It's like Activision deciding to not release a Call of Duty game for six years...it just doesn't make any sense.

Their reason not to use it is they said they wouldn't use it. That and I don't want them ruining my halo with motion commands. In no way would that b e a good Idea. Seriously get it into your head, THERE WILL BE NO KINECT WITH HALO 4.

Really hope Microsoft won't force them to put a stupid kinect feature in the game. you never know.

Halo has great gameplay(reach multiplayer lol) that would be ruined by kinect

Fantastic boxart. I have to say, the number "I'm not a fan BUT.." posts in this thread amused me greatly.

It's okay to like Halo folks. He's a good guy and isn't afraid of anything.

I was wondering why his torso looks so long and unshielded, almost giving the impression of an exposed midriff - the titanium banana that's usually right below the chest piece is actually attached to the codpiece, so it remained down there, no longer acting as a segment of his torso armor, but more of a half-assed belt. That's... something.

This is one freakin' beautiful boxart, easily the best in the series and definitely the best I've seen in a long time.

Great job from 343.

I must be one of the few who thinks it looks a bit meh, feels like there is too much going on around MC that is rather bland, that or MC is in the middle of battling that big ass thing from Transformers 3.

This isn't to say it isn't a nice looking piece of art, just not one I would use for a game case.

Not actually that important
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.

Will buy
used/Zavvi'd
and play the campaign solo and split screen co-op!
I wish this game had something similar to MW2's Spec Ops to play in couch multi, that was awesome and I think it'd have potential in Halo.

So, despite the dedicated servers hiccup, things are running pretty perfectly for this game

+ Great graphixsh
+ Great map design
+ Great looking atmosphere
+ Interesting plot premise
+ Amazing concept art
+ Features returning that the fans want (BR)
+ Creatively artistic box art
+ Spartan Op's
+ Multiplayer innovations

In terms of having the biggest impact? E3's is Halo 4's to lose, 343i could send hype skyrocketing which would perfectly complement the disgruntled CoD fanbase.

Let's hope for the best chums.

Goldrusher's one was almost spot-on, and I must say I liked it more :)

It's zoomed in :( the scope is killed ...

You can barely tell that's a covenant ship on the right... You can barely see the opening at the top

Like the halo 2 one... Whyyyyy
