The only reason there isn't a Demon's Souls 2 is because Sony owns the IP and they wanted to go multiplatform.

Armoured Core 5 tells me From isn't exactly adverse to the idea of sequels. :p

I am a huge fan of NMH and would certainly like to have Lollipop Chainsaw on PC.

The reasons why I feel Vanquish in particular would be a good game to push are the following:
1) It's a game that would appeal to the PC gamer demographic
2) It would benefit from a PC release due to the unstable frame-rate and less precise controls of the console version
3) SEGA are generally open to releasing their games on PC

I don't see why the age of the game is a big deal. If SEGA's Dreamcast ports can be profitable, I don't see why this can't.

After the Double Fine Kickstarter success I thought no other game would ever be able to raise that kind of money. Then Wasteland came along.

No one has really tried to push a PC port the same way Dark Souls was pushed. No other game petition has had its own dedicated thread on NeoGAF. This actually surprises me as I thought the Dark Souls port was going to spawn several similar campaigns.

Well, there was the operation Rainfall thing before, but I think the kickstarter campaigns kind of took over the niche of fans trying to organize and push for something.

I'll agree with Tuco that 40K is a ton of signatures though. To get those kind of numbers you really need to get someone like Total Biscuit or Notch to shill pretty hard for you. On the plus side if you manage to actually get those kind of numbers they more or less have no choice but to at least give an official response.

I'm not sure it would be that difficult. Even that Mega Man Legends fan page on Facebook was able to get above 100.000 likes (although with help of paid adds). If the word is spread to Reddit and other gaming communities I think that would be enough for a petition to reach high numbers.

As long as it doesn't require too much effort its at least worth a try.

It'll be some shit if this managed to get almost 100k signatures on a petition but only sells 20k copies.

It's their own fault if that happened, they put GFWL,and I think because of that they already lost huge amount of the people who have signed the petition.

all this talk about vanquish...how about someone makes a thread so we can all beg for a pc port in that one. i can see vanquish being ported if dark souls sells well.

Yeah, I mean you are probably right, but that doesn't mean I would rather it be the "Souls" series as opposed to a "Dark Souls 2."

Wasn't Vanquish a flop even on consoles? I don't think that there would be big chances to see a port, even with fans asking for it.

Being DD-only in America at least would probably take the sting off of it, assuming others have similar profit ratios to Steam anyway.

I'm pretty sure it was against the rule to post petition-specific threads, but i can't find anything in the FAQ section nor the TOS about it.

Kinda, but it still sold like 10 times the amount of copies Binary Domain did, and they ported that. :p

Yeah, if they're just doing a basic port on DD only I figure almost any sales you get are basically free money. There's the work going into the extra content, but that'll almost certainly come to console as DLC or a special edition anyway.

I don't see why it would, as long as the thread features a proper OP and promotes a common interest.

hey no worries..we can use this dark souls threads to discuss petitions for PC ports for bayonetta, pokemon, mario, zelda, umm final fantasy, Megami Tensei, chainsaw lollypop, etc!

I believe the Dark Souls petition thread existed because it was an actual news story on several blogs and gaming sites and there was some involvement from a From or Namco employee. I forget the specifics of the initial thread but it wasn't just "look here's a petition."

Not exactly.

There was a thread on Namco Bandai's official forum asking for a PC version.

Namco's reply:

Hi there,
Just to confirm that there won't be a PC version for Dark Souls.

Then Tuco posted there saying:

Anecdotal evidence may not be the best argument, but between all the PC gamers I know I have yet to hear one who wouldn't buy this game instantly if available on PC.

And you know what? RPGs (especially challenging hard core RPGs) are even one of these few genres very strong on the platform.
Just look at Skyrim sales, or how Risen managed to sell more on PC than on Xbox360.
Hell, even The Witcher 2, from this very publisher, didn't do bad at all for a new, emerging franchise.

Namco Bandai/From Software should really consider to make a port and put it on Steam.
They could even talk with Valve about how to deliver the smoothest possible experience with online infrastructure.
I may be naive but I really can't see this game failing in any way, if they go for Steam, avoid embarrassing bad malware like GFWL or Starforce and price it fairly for a late port (40-50 dollars).

What would be the break-even? Not sure but I'm guessing: 100-200 thousand copies? I think that even being conservative about it, this game could reach these numbers in the very first few days.
Do I need to remember to you how every single copy on Steam is like 70% net revenues for the publisher and how games on PC usually keep selling even on the long run?

Unless From Software actually *hates* to work on PC games, I wonder what's there to lose?

to which they replied:

There is always possibilities to have games adapted on PC and the good news is that Dark Souls is not a 100% typical Console game so the adaptation is possible.
Now to make things happen, let's say the demand has to be properly done. someone to make a successful petition?

Shoupinou

Then someone else made a petition. Later Notch tweeted about it and TotalBiscuit made a video and the petition really blew up.

So while you could argue Namco asked for the petition it seems more of an offhand comment that caught them by surprise.

Yeah, exactly. More or less.
There was already an old thread, without replies for months. Then I made that post and I got that unexpected answer from Shoupinou.
At that point I talked about it in a couple of forums I read (my GAF account was not activated yet at the time) and I mailed RPS, TB and PC Gamer about it, hoping at least one of the bunch could post something about it.
RPS did it, and after the RPS news post, a Reddit user, Dinopoke, started the actual petition.
That's how all the thing begun.

Petition started from 4chan /v/ threads, at least, the one that most people signed. The user may of also used reddit, but there were a tun of views before it hit reddit.

I don't know, maybe you're right, but I actually saw it for the first time on Reddit not even 20 minutes after the RPS post (someone actually linked it to me to show me how the voice was spreading) and it had barely few dozens of signatures then, so I always thought that's where it started.

Yeah well, not a great news, no one right on his mind would ever think they weren't going to be on Steam.
It would be crazy.

The problem is that if it's going to be available on GFWL, that implies it's going to stick with the integrated GFWL client, which is what every one complained about in the first place.

Yeah, Steam was pretty much a given. Just nice to have it confirmed.

Also, does being on the Games for Windows store automatically imply GFWL?

Edit: Eh, nvm. Trailer says GFWL.

Sadly, yes.
Beside, the logo is listed at the end of their last trailer, just posted by Flying Monkey.

They completely ignored the fans' feedback.
Disappointing.
