Question to anyone who has played this game: what is the point of knockback? I guess it can be used to prevent infinities(?) but some moves are just ridiculous and they make it look like the game was designed to have that percentage system from SSB, particularily Radec's sniper, which looks like it has too much range. Than you have characters with like third jumps, flying abilities, or grappling hook-like abilities which just seem out of place. Hope this hasn't been mentioned a thousand times before.

I don't mean to go into this game with Smash Bros. in mind, really trying to disregard that (I'm more of a Sony fan and this is a game I've been waiting for for a very, very long time).

Knockback moves give you the most AP. They also create space between you and other players think of it like a fighting game just with a lot more freedom and space to work with. You have to not only worry about your opponent but you need to worry about your spacing. They are also used to end combos seeing as they knock your opponent back and give you a bunch of AP.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuiDXY4bhCk&feature=relmfu

If they designed this game with a Percentage system in mind those moves wouldn't send opponents flying back. They designed it so that each move has an intended purpose some moves will down your opponents. Others will stun, some will create knockbacks some will counter each has its intended purpose and situation in which it was designed to be used.

To your question about movement attacks like Kratos's Icarus Wings it comes down to three things.

1. It's another attack options they can be used to attack enemies while they are in the air as well and can be another piece in your combos.

2. It is away of evading a lot of people aren't aware of this but there is another layer to PSABR gameplay and that's the evading Supers. Some attacks like Jak's Hoverboard or Drakes Rope Swing can be used to help you dodge supers. It isn't just one attack however like in Smash Bros. Its more open ended in that you have to figure out which of your normals are best for dodging each Super in the game the move you used to dodge Radec's Level 2 Super with Jak may not work for dodging Kratos's Level 2. So you have to completely figure out what works best on your own.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4C32BcIAf4

3. Lastly its just another movement options so that you can control your positioning and how you get around on the stage. For instance Kratos does have a triple jump with the Icarus Wings which comes in very handed when trying to traverse the map or even when trying to get back on the stage in the Jak and Daxter Level

Ha, thanks! I am to please. ;) But seriously, FF XIII is awesome and Lightning is an excellent heroine and a perfect fit for PlayStation All-Stars.
1) Vehemently disagree.
2) Disagree.
3) Wrong. Like, objectively.

But the game could use more females. I'd much rather it be Kat personally.

Nice try, but I can't be objectively wrong about that. I have my opinion and you have yours, but neither of us are qualified to say that their opinion is objectively correct. Fact =/= opinion.

I respect your dissenting opinion, though. I don't agree with it, but hey, that's what makes the world go 'round. Hopefully we'll both win and get both Lightning and Cloud in the game eventually.

Everyone from the leak will be in. I wouldn't worry.

Are we talking about the leak from the beta?

I hate it when people say this game needs more females. For a game like Street Fighter, that is understandable. This is a game featuring allstars. If a character isn't an allstar, they aren't an allstar, simple as that.

I don't mean to be so aggressive towards FF13 and Lightning, but, in all honesty, Final Fantasy 13 has the worst characters, setting, story, and mythos of any of the numbered Final Fantasy's I've played (I played 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 as well). The only thing I liked about that was the battle system (and occasionally Sazh). Seeing the roster already, Lightning is, unfortunately, a more likely character than Cloud. Cloud is just the most reasonable choice for an actual allstar. He is in the ranks of video game icons as such characters as Mario, Solid Snake, and Master Chef. Now, I frankly don't care about Final Fantasy 7, but I'm not blind. Cloud is a very important character to Final Fantasy and the PlayStation, and has one of the largest and strongest followings of any video game character; I don't believe I'm being unrealistic when I say that either.

Parappa's Level 1 seems much more reliable now looks like a bigger hitbox
His skateboard time seems to be slightly shorter in length though it may just be me

Jak seems cool it *looks* like you cancel moves of you hoverboard
It also *looks* like you can aim the Arc Weilder
The ground smash causes and upbounce on opponents which can probably be combo off of with the hoverboard or a gun
They look more like themselves now and less like dolls I think because their eyes didn't animate before

Cole can use the momentum of the sliding attack in his normal attacks
Looks like Cole can delay the throw part of his level 1

Radec machine gun burst seems to travel farther

Victory animations on the new characters look better in general
Love Sweet Tooth, Drake, Big Daddy and Jak & Daxters Character select portrait designs

I was being a bit facetious, but yeah Lightning is definitely not a 'PS All-Star' like Cloud who had an enormous impact on the console. Lightning would be like Big Daddy; cool to play as but not fitting at all. Either way, I'd be very surprised if Cloud made it in. Lightning I'd say is pretty likely.

Tidus for the Final Fantasy X remade should be in
Bioshock is getting a game made for the Vita so that why he going be in

lightning is technically the betrayalton character.

I'm assuming Lightning is going to be in as to not get my hopes up, but there are so many better final fantasy characters that should get a spot before her, it doesn't necessarily have to be cloud or even sephiroth.

Drake's moveset is a little disappointing. A diagonal rope latched onto absolutely nothing pops out of nowhere for him to slide across. A big chunk of building lands randomly in front of him for him to push over.

A little random and uncreative considering it's the same people that utilized the mechanics of LBP so well into Sackboy's moveset.

That not entirely accurate. The main reason that Sackboy seems more natural is because he already produces things from thin air in LPB Create, and he's a cartoony character. Both characters are doing exactly the same thing, but it's more jarring for Drake.

Every character forms stuff out of thin air so it's not that unusual to me. Zipline is a pretty good idea for a move for him, I think the only weird thing is how it cuts off, but if it went all the way across it'd probably look even weirder.

Right, it'd look odd because of how little frames the move actually has, so it'd appear and disappear across the entire screen...and having four Drakes using that move at once would be chaotic.

I don't understand your way of thinking. It's like you are saying that just because people want female characters that they won't be PS Allstars. It's not like Playstation doesn't have a past, present and future full of female characters: Jennifer Tate, Kat, Kisala from Rogue Galaxy, Laura Croft, Lightning, Yuna, Areith, ect.

So people wanting at least a few more females understandable. And exactly what differentiates this game from a game like street fighter in terms of roster selection?

Pitfalls? You mean falling off the stage? That's already present in some of the stages, so no, they probably won't be adding those in the delay.

Are you sure it's already present? I watched that IGN video and I couldn't see a single example, immediately lowered my excitement for the game as it seemed so limiting in all those maps..?

Ah you're right, hope they have a few more like that, it isn't the only one is it? Deceptive IGN video.. or maybe these were newly announced and not in the beta or something?

Btw the foreground in this level just looks bad doesn't it? I appreciate many gamers will remember the scene but ... not a great attempt imo...might be the nasty yellow on that truck. I remember thinking the same during the video as well.

It's the only announced one. Unless you count Alden's Tower which is a climbing stage--so the lower portion of the screen becomes a "pitfall".

EDIT: And correct, those aren't in the beta.

I doubt it is just me.

Thanks for the clarification jtir123, shame it is the only currently announced level (with traditional pitfalls), would be nice if there was at least 1/3-1/4 of all the maps that had pitfalls..for my preference, and I'm sure a lot of others too.

Are more levels to come? - should we expect more reveals...before the release I mean.

Well, there are quite a few more stages to be announced. IMO, I like the stages that are perfectly flat... though, I'm one of those guys that only play on final destination in smash, and really hate walking off the edge when my attention is being pulled away from the screen.

Wow no, that does look good thanks for the link. It is just that bright yellow distracting me.

I get that, but nice to have a mixup..there were so many (nice but still) flat videos from the videos I've seen already. I know they are trying to make it more accessible but come on at least 2-3 more with pitfalls please...

Ok thanks guys, back on track with this game (especially now that it is cross-buy!).

Alright, let's try to take the most extreme event I could think of: say we had a roster full of guys for Playstation Allstars and there's only one more possible character we can include on the disc. We could either do Crash Bandicoot or put a female character in the game, let's just go with Lara Croft since she's the most iconic female that's important to the Playstation imo.

Sure this situation is unrealistic, but you get what I'm saying? Crash is probably the most important character. Who cares about 'diversity' when this game is about Allstars. Lara Croft is an allstar, yes. She, in my opinion, deserves to be in this game since she's an allstar. Who cares if she's a female character. What if someone were to say "there aren't enough African Americans in this game?" Who cares? If a character has the rank of an allstar, they deserve to be in this game.

Wow. It looks great, even on that huge screen.

Also, did anyone else notice something from this footage that was posted here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ltmWAOOhEg ?

When the characters fall behind and get caught as the stage pitfalls, they all respawn and lose a great deal of AP. So now, we have confirmation that getting rung out into a pitfall or whatever will make them respawn and lose a nice chunk of AP. This happens around the 1:00 mark.

Supers are still the only way to KO but knocking someone off and making them lose a lot of AP? That's pretty satisfying too. I just hope this doesn't start confusing people, making people think they've KO'ed other players when they've just respawned and lost AP. I wonder if the fish in Sandover Village does this now, in the newest build? I also wonder if it's possible to ring out someone on the Uncharted stage, as I'd assume the far right isn't blocked off. Any confirmation if it is or not?

Ah that is a decent mechanic, but that means you get no reward for knocking them off?

...unless you steal that AP, which would be perfect.

This post made me come to the conclusion that Tifa would be awesome in this. It'll never happen, but damn... she'd be lots of fun to play.

Here's my opinion on roster selection:

If the majority of the cast is "human", then yes, diversity is key w/ sex, race, etc.

Though if it's a crossover of this caliber, "diversity" suddenly takes on a whole new meaning. Instead of thinking in terms of the former, the pool of choices becomes much wider. So instead of getting a black, asian, native american indian, etc, we start thinking we need an alien, a magician, a robot, a four-legged animal, a gunslinger, etc.

Regardless, I think wanting a female representative is still a legitimate argument, even within this larger pool.

It upset me to watch that video and see how long Parapa was sitting on his level 3 super. The stage looked great though.

Yup he just kept spamming the forward circle which was gaining him absolutely nothing since AP was maxed.

Wow. It looks great, even on that huge screen.

Yup, plus when you spawn back you are stunned for a little meaning that you can be hit with a Super. Basically the consequences of falling off can be just as lethal as in Smash its just a matter of your opponent taking advantage of the situation.

Well if your opponent has less AP its like you have more life basically you are delaying their supers.

I guess, true..but so does everyone else in ffa...so not as rewarding as just going for building your super by hits...I would appreciate it more in 1v1s and 2v2s. Nothing too bad anyway. Not going to expect too many more pitfall stages though. Gameplay just looks great still, although threat of a pitfall is nice to have..especially on larger stages.

This is precisely why it can be devastating to fall off in this game. Loss of AP and potential death? Horrifying.
