Steam Greenlight: 1000 games and counting, more Greenlit every few weeks

I voted for Octodad, and have no regrets after playing it at PAX. Was really funny and a lot better designed with some refinements, making it feel much more like a game than a concept testing, but still having the clumsy fun of the original.
And I still lovethe unexpected but surprisingly fitting Crhulhu undertones in what I played.

I think this is a bit sad:

And then read this:

"People are making money off his creation (That Slender game is selling tshirts and shit off their website)

He (the original Creator of the SlenderGame) even says on his Deviantart that he does not give people permission to use Slenderman unless it is for personal use / within a small group of friends."

I think its sad, that more people vote for a Game, that seems to break a copyright and support developers that just try to "use" the success of Slender to make some quick money.

I thought "Slenderman" was a community creation/fake mythos created by the likes of 4chan after the Marble Hornets video series came out, rather than a copyrighted name by one specific person. Or maybe one person tried to do that after it was already becoming a common term?

You also seem to have chosen one of the worst screenshots of the Slender game, rather than highlighting one of the more in-game ones. I think I even made an effort to look at the La-Mulana page/screenshots but I don't really like the graphics and the way the game looks. =/ I guess different people are interested in different sorts of games.

I did start out as a SomethingAwful post, and I think Marble Hornet's came after that.

Yeah no one owns Slenderman so whoever the other guy is can't really do anything. Unless he was the guy who did the original image which I doubt he is.

I hope La Mulana gets in it really does look fantastic best of luck to those guys.

This is a bit unusual for me, like most I've been browsing Greenlight and reporting whenever I ran into content that didn't belong there, I always report fellow gamers for hacking, botting, scams, because that's the kind of snitch I am with cyber cop ambitions, sometimes successfully but often ignored (Diablo 3 bots still active weeks after reporting) but never have I received a thanks as a result until now, pretty happy with the automated gesture.

What?

I'm... I'm pretty sure Slender Man is public domain.

I mean.

Come on. That's like saying you have the patent for zombies.

He doesn't like people cloning his game? Better stop making things about stuff that a lot of people like, then. It's not like people are going in and stealing his art.

how do you guys feel about all of these mods/source mods that are on greenlight but want to be released for free?

not sure how i should vote. i mean its free, but its clogging up the system.

There are mods on Steam, so I don't see why they shouldn't be asking to be greenlit. Though I doubt Valve would approve any mod that isn't a total conversion stripped of the IP of it's former game (and anyone elses IP).

This is like if there were 10 different Nyan Cat games or Honey Badger games on Steam Greenlight. It may not be copyright infringement, but it's still kinda lame. I'm downvoting all that crap.

I don't exactly have any nostalgia for Wrestling games, or the N64 wrestling games in particular. But I voted anyway, because the idea does seem interesting enough. I always wanted to see a mass multiplayer King of the Ring styled wrestling game on PC with customizable characters. The idea could be fun if executed right.

Customization is why i am excited for the project.

I thought the whole idea of slender man was that it was some sort of crowd sourced horror mythos type thing.

Not to mention that it's not a terribly original premise in the first place.

Steam cloud support, Steamworks support (cheeves, stat tracking, etc), as well as automated updates. Those sorts of things could come in handy for multiplayer mods.

I guess the question is whether it takes too much bandwidth, since it will be mods that neither the producers nor the consumers are paying for, but still using Steam download etc. stuff?

Nobody fucking owns slenderman. I don't know what that guy is smoking.

I love these forums.

Also my steam is stuck in Portuguese and I have no clue why.

Nothing shows up in my "Games you've rated" page. Steam has deleted my votes or lost them. Fantastic.

God this whole interface is abysmal.

Your votes still count, i see that in my favorites (favorited pretty much everything I voted for). But yeah the "games you've rated" is broke for me too.

Your votes are hidden, not deleted.

This should be in the OP: you can sort the table and go on voting.

I found this on the steam greenlight discussions. It shows the top (700?) games greenlight stats.

The "All Games" section is sorted by "most recently uploaded" now!

There is also a (broken) method to refresh the queue of pending ratings:

I upvoted every game in the GAFfer collection. :)
I don't know who made this one, but thanks for adding FLY'N in it.

I'm surprised to see this, but besides submitting Go! Go! Nippon!, MangaGamer has now submitted Higurashi When They Cry. Before anyone asks, yes this is a legit submission.

Upvoting right now!!! First thing I've seen that I've actually upvoted. More visual novels on Steam are needed.

Pretty interesting, but, wow... that art.

Unfortunately how the first Higurashi game looked. I agree the art of the first game left something to be desired, but it was an indie game in Japan and had a very small team with no very talented artists. It was only after it released Higurashi became popular and got a manga, an anime, and other games. It's the writing and the twisted but interesting premise and mystery that got it where it's at.

There is a way to modify the game's files those and replace the sprites for the characters with later game's sprites to make it look much nicer.

Meh...I find Ryukishi07's original sprites to be something of an acquired taste. They're horrible and weird at first, but then they kind of grow on you as the story progresses. By the end of the second arc I'd have them no other way. :p

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Hm, I finished voting on all games a few days ago and since then I havent gotten any new ones to vote for. However, someone just posted VolChaos, which I havent voted yet for (according to the VolChaos page). Shouldnt games I have not yet voted on pop up in my "personalized vote" list on steam?

Weird, still seems to have some bugs this thing.

Edit: I can't even find VolChaos via the Greenlight search.

Edit2: Wow, the beginning of the trailer for VolChaos is so bad. Dude, if you are reading this, I suggest changing the trailer to only gameplay + music + Text. I assume you are losing many votes with that one.

I just had to watch it after that. I dislike video trailers enough as it is due to the amount of fluff-to-useful information ratio, but this just goes beyond the "wasting my time" thing.

I dunno who at Valve decided to implement that, but it was a very smart idea. Feels good getting that mail, makes you feel part of the team, keeping Steam clean. I think I'm up to 38 now.

About Slender again.

I am not that "mad"/"sad" about the copyright things. But on the one hand you have an already finished game, that lot of people like.
On the other hand you have some Game that tries to ride on the success of Slender and that seems it hasnt been in development really long. Wouldnt wonder if it started just before Greenlight arrived.

I hope I cleared it up :)

Upvoted.

Working through these games, I cannot stress how important the first screenshot is for the Greenlight page. It can make or break a vote for me even before reading anything.
