Fall 2012 Anime |OT| Meet the new world, same as the old world

It goes on breaks so there is no filler, and when it is filler they're usually bitching about how the episode is filler, or there's budget cuts or how their timeslot has been moved.

Ebiten - 01

I have no idea what to think of what I just watched, it's basically your typical school club room with a 100% female ratio, there's a fujioshi drooling over BL doujin that gets her clothes taken off and bondaged, and it did a Saint Seiya parody that went on for the whole second half of the episode.

Wow, I have no opinion of what I just watched, can't remember if that's happened to me before.

Actually, it's more like a 85% female ratio.
One of them is a guy.

As a person who's never watched/read any JoJo before, I should be able to keep up right? It's not going to be so fast paced that I feel like I'm missing important stuff by not reading?

Yeah, I really liked the atmosphere they managed to produce - it has just the right amount of drama without taking itself too seriously, which really fits JoJo.

The super exaggerated punks were hilarious, and Jojo does this AMAZINGLY girlish pity-roll down a hill at one point. So hilarious I just lost it. I think that this is also a case were some of the CG and texturing effects (not all) were really effectively used in setting the tone of some scenes and making them over the top. There's a lot of crazy color use too, but it's always themed, and there's enough variation in the use where it doesn't feel ugly. It's pretty cool.

You might feel like some parts of the first episode are just "highlights" instead of fully developed stuff, but it's not that important because I think they'll slow down a bit from next week. The first episode is basically a sort of introduction prologue for the two leads showing how their childhood led them to become the men they are from ep2 onwards.

No, the point of this first episode was to set the stage for the rest of Phantom Blood, so the main characters are introduced, their relationship is laid out, so it should be easy to follow regardless of whether you've read the manga or not.

Man, another good ending for another good arc. Really nicely done.

Awesome. When I looked at the Fall schedule, JoJo was one of the shows I was most interested in checking out. Looking forward to it.

Do you think the first episode of Madoka is particularly confusing or challenging? Because that's the level of "confusion" we're talking about here. The show establishes what is going on pretty quickly, and there's nothing particularly strange about it. There's a specific choice made in presenting a specific order of events at the start of the episode, and there's a reason for that.

Have you even watched it?
Sorry about not replying to this earlier, I got a little side tracked.

I don't think Madoka is a good comparison at all. The first episode of Madoka opens with a fairly strange dream sequence of sorts, that's followed immediately by a very traditional and gentle character interaction. Time is spent establishing Madoka, her family, her friends, her zany teacher and so forth. We follow Madoka through a fairly normal day of her life until which only starts to get really weird towards the end of the episode when something quite out of the ordinary happens. We're introduced to all this stuff slowly, at the same speed as the main character.

Meanwhile in Zetsuen we barely spend any time establishing any of the characters, who appear one after another in a fairly disconnected manner. Sometimes the characters may give strange speeches that feel extremely out-of place given the way that most people in the world of the show speak. At other times they'll talk about character's we haven't even seen yet, so the only things we know about them is what other people say. Very little time is given to establish any one character or any one aspect of the world. A number of sequences feature flashbacks to earlier points in the stories chronology. Half-way through the episode
the character that was being discussed earlier makes his appearance. He's can control magic or something but before we've even been given time to swallow that pill or work out what it means everyone in the town, a setting that hasn't really been developed yet, has apparently been killed. Then some thing comes out of the ocean and this other guy must AVENGE HIS SISTERS KILLER even though that doesn't really seem important given the amount of people who are being killed by this psychic attack thing. What a dick.

The sheer volume of events and characters and ideas that are introduced in this first episode and the speed at which everything is offloaded onto the audience is very, very different to Madoka.

I'm not sure if i'll watch Jojo.

I don't like the manga CD that much and the anime seems nice, on other hand this kind of adaptations have no point to me and i may as well just read the source material.

I can't even speak right now. The stupidity of the MC is beyond typical anime levels. This is mental retardation levels.

It seriously took him that long to figure out it was on a timer? My mouth is agape. Then the antagonist of this episode seems to be blind. He apparently can't follow a body that is straight ahead of him. Not to mention we have the movie level physics where people are surviving bombs exploding right behind him.

This is definitely the worst thing I've seen starting this season.

Atleast the OP and ED are nice.

Oh boy. You're going to love episode 2.... Lol. :(

You have to think bigger, duckroll.

That sounds like something Nolan would say.

My mouth is physically agape. I can't remember the last time that has happened. How do you not figure out that it's a timer when it shows a number counting down and it then explodes. How? I'm seriously sitting here in my room trying to figure out how stupid you would have to be.

Yeah, that has got to be one of the most retarded things I've ever seen a protagonist do.

"What is this thing counting down? I've got a bad feeling!"

*throws*

*grenade explodes*

"Oh I see this is like that Btooom game."

*throws grenade*

"Why won't it explode? What's this countdown for!?"

*throws other grenande*

...

*blows 10 seconds later*

"Yo enemy trying to blow me up, how do these grenades work?"

And only after getting his ass blown up a dozen times does he figure it out.

Haha, yeah BTOOOM was dumb as hell, but I could see myself continuing to watch it to for the lulz, as long as it isn't boring and dumb.

This current one is supposed to cover the first 2 arcs, I believe. Just hope it does well enough that more seasons will be greenlighted :)

If they do 3+ hopefully they will change the art style some. It works with 1-2 but I would hope that it wouldn't stick around.

Saki is a goddamned BEAST. Why in the hell is it so popular?

Yuri make things better.
There is nothing wrong to enjoy yuri.

Also this anime had a nice soundtrack too

I never said there was anything wrong with yuri. quite the opposite I believe it is a beautiful thing. Just I admired his dedication to following it by going into the pits of hell to experience it.

I really do have to hand it to the script in Zetsuen, the characters are really on my wavelength:

Sure.

This is what happens when you play too many videogames and not enough real life games I guess. All those on-screen prompts and QTEs? Ruining minds everywhere! Lol.

You're playing with me right Duckroll?

He can't outdumb himself from episode 1, it's impossible... Right!?

Hey duckroll.... why are you silent man, don't play with me!!!

He's not in ep2. Ep2 is about a girl. If the guy in a shounen manga is that dumb, what do you think the girl's story will be like?!

But the later in the series you get, the more people who don't like it have already stopped watching it, so the numbers go up.
First episodes are challenging because all sorts of random people are watching it.
Although, in the case of Little Busters, anyone who doesn't like Key has already avoided it.
That is right! And clearly was what helped other previously broadcast series or films that pulled in again some old fans for a new showing now in streaming, like the re-emission of Toradora! on 2011 that had very high percentage of positive opinions as well.

I said that because I think that many fans of this industry are very exigent when it comes to them infatuating specific guidelines, things deemed correct only by themselves to reach satisfying and fulfilling endings, as they see it. This 'one way' mentality can certainly create disappointments if things don't go a certain way on the finale. I know I'm probably judging too much particularly obsessive 'fandoms' but experience has taught me that this final moments are the most divisive, let me just say that.

Kannazuki no Miko - 11

Yes. Its the most yuri, actual yuri, of many of the shows you have watched lately. No goggles required. At all. As long as you can actually put up with the show.
