I've been meaning to read the JoJo manga and watch the 90's OVA for pretty much forever but I'd figure I'd check this out first before getting around to that stuff and this certainly didn't disappoint. The pacing seemed pretty fast but it kinda added to the incredibly exaggerated and fabulous feel of the show.
danny ;_;
Had very good animewatch, will watch more.

edit: oh and the Yes ED owns bigtime but the visuals are really disappointing. :(

That was a pretty nice mecha fight there. Otherwise :lol @ "Happy Birthday." If I'd seen a clip of that ending on youtube, my first question would be to ask which two shows were used to splice that shit together.

I knew you couldn't resist this.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 1

This is fuckin anime! Where was this 20 years ago when it SHOULD have happened?

Fantastic adaptation of the material. So much style, so much fabulous, so much awesome. The visual effects work so damn well for this franchise. And we haven't even gotten to the "good" part yet!

Also, I see Araki's inability to draw children has translated over to the anime.

Those are some roided up 12 year olds.

I also like how the one instance of censorship I would accept happened the way I wanted it to. Will probably be tougher later on though.

I am so friggin psyched for Battle Tendency now. Hell, I'm psyched for the rest of Phantom Blood. If I said that before this started, I would have laughed.

Everyone that's seen it, link your impressions. Gonna make the thread.

Jojo - 001 (hopefully I will need the second 0)

Everyone already took the good images so I'll just post my thoughts.

I thought it was a great first episode, they took the style of the Jojo manga and changed it but kept it faithful to the original at the same time. It must have been very hard to get a style that they thought would work right for part 1 and they did it. The various quirks of part 1 were represented well too such as the exaggerated arm length during punches, and the muscular builds of characters. The anime captured the feel of Jojo and if they take the right steps this could be the best anime in a long time.

Re: Cutie Honey - 02

Another awesome episode. Not a lot of gun action for Natsuko this time around but I'm definitely not complaining on what her role was this time. While Honey appears to be a simple, fun girl who doesn't sweat the small things, she really does take words to heart. This was evident when
she manged to move her battle with Scarlet to an open field in order to avoid damaging the city even further.
This also echoes the significance of Natsuko's words to her earlier on in the episode when she
was called (more so insinuated that she was) a 'nuisance', that left her in a depressed state.
Seeing everyone misjudging
Honey (both out ignorance and the Panther Claw propaganda) allowed for Natsuko to reflect upon her own attitude regarding the upbeat superhero and ultimately led their budding friendship.

Everything in the world is now right.

Oh man, I'm normally rather strong in my stance of being dub only in my Vidyas and Japanamations, but I really like JoJo's...I'm not sure if I can stand the wait and uncertainty of the series' US release.

But then again, I'm also usually anime only but started reading the manga instead of waiting for this...so maybe this series will turn around all of my foreign media habits.

I watched Chuunibyou 1 again and it's just better this time. OMG I don't think I've ever fallen in love with a show from the first episode. I'm so fucking excited for what's next.

I think I'm turning into a KyoAni fangirl.

Ominous things continue.
Also, I didn't realize it last week, but Saki's seiyuu Risa Taneda is the one singing the ending song. That's nice.

Watching the same scenes in both and finding the one in my language to be more enjoyable to hear every time.
That's irrelevant when there is no dub for something.

Besides, there's an issue when it comes to quality too, but different subject I suppose.

That's irrelevant when there is no dub for something.

Yeah, but usually I'm on the stance of waiting for one.

I heard people talking about Madoka/Panty Stocking/Tiger and Bunny/etc, thought "I might like that", then however many years later I watched them/am watching them.

well not really...yet
Watching Fate/Zero episode 11 right now

Please tell me the whole episode is everyone just drinking the finest of wines

You have NO idea how hard it was for me to not say anything after you posted impressions of the first episode. :D I wanted it to be a surprise. ^^;

Thank you so much Zel! It was a pleasant surprise indeed and I appreciate you holding back for my sake. :)

It all has to start somewhere. There are too many shows that will never be properly dubbed to avoid subs all together.

Excellent, the beyond-cutoff Blu-ray sales from September 24-30 have been released. Now we can get a more accurate picture of how the Summer shows are doing:

As before, new releases from the Summer have been bolded.

We can therefore update the Summer Temporal (First Volume) BD + DVD Rankings:

*2, *9,196 Dog Days'
*3, *8,760 Tari Tari

19, *1,338 Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi.
20, *1,282 Upotte!!

For this list, bolded series are those whose ranking was affected due to the past-cutoff reported sales (so basically the same series as the first list).

As a quick note, Utakoi didn't have any BDs in the rankings, and conversely, Dakara H didn't have any DVDs in the rankings. Then again, even these aren't absolutely everything, but we won't get every single sales number until the end of the month.

The overall moral of the story? In a week where the Blu-ray sales cutoff for early reports is 3,068, you really need to wait for the full list to judge things properly.

Watched the first 4 episodes of Steins;Gate since I gave up on waiting for a translation of the VN. Find it extremely enjoyable so far, actually had to stop from continuing since I want to get some sleep. It's also much funnier than I expected it to be, though I assume that will change later.

Busou Shinki 1

The struggles of 15cm toy girls in a human's world. It's like Arriety except ugly and with action scenes. Oddly the animation is surprisingly competent, its a strange combination since the art is not nice to look at.

Funny thing is Busou Shinki actually has the same animation director as Arriety, Ryouma Ebata, so perhaps that's why it captures the scale of humans vs. tiny people so well. Might also explain the animation quality in comparison to the rest of the show.
