Nintendo 3DS Games: what does this thing have?

Not open for further replies.
The huge sparsity of RPGs, in both diversity and quantity, and really original, almost experimental, games is really depressing for PAL 3DS owners... especially since these two categories are probably the greatest reasons for why I consider the DS my favourite (or second favourite?) Nintendo device. =(

Spending a lot of time in japanGAF topics like the Media Create Sales topics only consolidates the general "=(" sentiment. If most of those games were localised, the 3DS would be doing so well but oh well...!

Bravely Default is out in Japan this week, isn't it?

my #1 most wanted game across all platforms/regions/etc. Squenix letting me down (so far)

Surprisingly sir (madame?), I'd say that their output for the 3DS is comparatively superior to their output for the DS during the same timeframe. Which is really surprising since i always thought of SE as one of the DS' better supporters...

So, when Bravely Default never arrives, at least you have that? =(

(But the benchmark in TWEWY came to the US within three and a half-years. Your time for that SUPER EXCELLENT game is ticking away SE...)

Apparently Roller Coaster Tycoon 3D is out in 6 days. Any impressions of it out yet apart from the review that came out months ago?

One of my favourite series ever and I'd love to be able to play it on the move but I worry it will be a terrible port that loses all the charm of the original games :/

Does Code of Princess have an EU release on the cards, beyond them suggesting they were close to a distribution deal back in June?

The OT makes painful reading. Sounds like a fantastic game and we have no dates yet.

Wait... what

This isn't just a mistranslation, right? Because if it's for real... that's HUGE

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/32058

The packaged retail version of the upcoming Japanese idol simulator for the Nintendo 3DS, AKB48+Me, will also include a digital version of the game, Kadokawa Games revealed. This marks the first third party title to offer a digital 3DS game, and the first time that the digital version is included with the packaged release.

This is the original source, apparently: http://www.inside-games.jp/article/2012/10/10/60420.html

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Read it earlier today. Eh, it's huge, it sets a very good precedent. And from a third party! That's a pleasant surprise. I want to see plenty of cases like this in the future. Here in the West too.

Paper Mario doesn't have random battles, right?

I'm enjoying Pokemon, but the insane amount of random battles inside of caves is really taking my interest away, quickly.

We're getting the free Mutant Mudds DLC levels this month. They're probably going to be rather difficult since they were designed for Granny.

I would have gladly paid money for these new levels; Jools is awesome for making it free.

I'd say that the $9 price point should no longer be an excuse for avoiding Mutant Mudds. The value proposition is about to skyrocket.

Bravely Default - played an hour or so, seemed great.

I've passed it over to the Wife who is infinitely more qualified for this sort of game

Finally going to get a 3DS ! I know I am defiantly get Ocarina of Time and Mario Kart 7, but anything else you folks recommend ? I don't mind RPG's, I loved Golden Sun back on the GBA.

You might want to pick up Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, even though it's not quite as good as the GBA games. Anything first party Nintendo is usually a good choice. Pick what you like, though the game choice is pretty scarce in the West in terms of RPGs. Paper Mario is coming out soon, which is SORT of an RPG.

Ooo okay, I will look into Golden Sun: Dark Dawn then! How do DS games look on the 3DS XL? I tried to see some videos on youtube but could really tell.

Footage ( not good quality) for the Lego: LOTR demo

In the Nintendo Download thread, everyone talked enthusiastically about the Ring...well, it seems glorious even with a low quality video :lol

But still, doesn't it seem good graphically? I'd like to know how does it compare (especially in graphics) with Lego Batman 2.

If you play them blown up to fit the screen, they might look anywhere between "fine" and "bad".

If you play them in native mode, they'll be smaller -- on the 3DS XL they're about the same size as if you were playing on a DSi -- but also look just like you were playing on a DSi.

It's another lazy port of the DS version of the game (which will also be the PSP & Vita versions). I remember when they used to do full ports of the console version. Seeing as the full versions are on Wii too, there's not really any excuse.

Well, Kid Icarus alone validated my purchase, heh.

Devil Survivor Overclocked and Code of Princess are both excellent. I've also heard great things about Kid Icarus, which you can probably pick up for cheap in the BST thread.

So I haven't bought Cave Story Eshop yet. What's the frame rate performance like? 30 or 60? never got a definitive answer in the OT

I can at least say it looks MUCH better than LEGO Batman.

Whether it's a DS port remains to be seen, but that at least took the time to make major improvement to the core DS design and graphics.

Even at 9 dollars, if you completed the game 100% it was totally worth it.

Hey guys, so I'm just about done with my 3DS, and I'm hoping someone on here can turn my opinion around and point me to something I might actually like.

I've had the thing since launch, and currently own three games for it (Street Fighter, DOA and Spirit Camera). Enjoyed all three to varying degrees of very much. Beyond those games, I have rented quite a few games, certainly most notable titles I can think of, and nearly nothing has interested me. I enjoyed Zelda, and I enjoyed Mario 3D Land. Beyond that, everything either seems aimed at a different audience to myself (I have KH3D rented out at the moment, and Dream Eater stuff has prevented me getting into it at all) or just uninteresting to me personally (Mario Kart 7, for example).

Here's a quick list of the 3DS games I've played:

Zelda: OoT
Tekken 3D
Kingdom Hearts 3D
Rhythm Thief
Mario Kart
Mario 3D Land
Pilot Wings
Tales of The Abyss
Theatrhythm
Mario Tennis Open
Resident Evil Revelations
Starfox 3D
Driver: Renegade
Rayman 3D
Monkey Ball 3D
Lego Star Wars 3D

Of all of those games, the only ones I genuinely enjoyed were Zelda and Mario 3D Land, and to a lesser extent Revelations. Am I missing any must-play games here? Is there anything that can make me appreciate this system? Because currently I've had it for a year and a half, and consider it the worst system I've ever owned. :(

Fucking 40-50 Euro prices are making it so hard to make buying 3DS games worthwhile. Thankfully, secondhand games at 27 Euro makes it that much better. MK7 and M3DLand: Here I come!

@Dantis: Google/YouTube:
- Shinobi
- Cave Story 3D
- Samurai Warriors Chronicles
- Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (this is actually a Fire Emblem-like strategy game, it's pretty good and you'll find it for cheap)
- Frogger 3D (I'll post a review soon-ish here)
- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked
- Code of Princess
- Heroes of Ruin
- Crush 3D
- Nano Assault
- Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy
- Kid Icarus: Uprising
- Ridge Racer 3D
- Sonic Generations (different from the HD version, it's pretty much Sonic Rush 3DS)
- BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II
- Pushmo
- Mutant Mudds
- Mighty Switch Force
- Ketzal's Corridors
- Dillon's Rolling Western
- The Denpa Men

And check the stuff we're getting in the following months like Paper Mario Sticker Star, Layton, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Etrian Odyssey, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, etc.

Hope you can find something you like! I personally love my 3DS.

The OP has done more to make me want a handheld console than anything else ever. I can safely say that I would never play anything in 3D if I did decide to join your club, though. Does it hurt the experience in any games?

Trust me when I say that it's a DS port. The only thing that's changed is some slightly updated graphics. Still nowhere near using the 3DS's full potential.

I play 3DS games without the 3D. Its pretty useless imo.

Don't get near any handheld Lego game, please don't do what I did, Lego Batman 2 3DS is the only game purchase I've regretted this whole gen, don't do it.

I know, huge, fine, I'm still getting one.[/QUOTE]

I'll only get one designed to be used in conjunction with the CPP XL. For maximum hugeness!

Don't know if this is news anymore, but just found out that this Nintendo - Amazon feud is getting more real as time passes by:

A month ago the 3DS appearead on that "handheld" box alongside the Vita, but not anymore, they edited that out since then. Wonder how much 'till they remove the Wii too.

Really satisfying fun, I feel like I'm learning stuff I should have learned in school.. really cool software

I picked up Colors 3d while its on offer (only a saving of £1 or something, but every penny counts), and I LOVE the interface on that. The artwork people are creating with it is INSANE. Demoralisingly good work in some cases!
