I've read that the best friend character had a bigger role in the original, but I guess the anime downgraded him by creating Deko and Kumin. Female characters are better than male, after all.

Seems like it's a proven fact at this point.

If Madoka movies in any way financed more Hidamari or any other Shaft project, then its something worth doing.

They could make an OVA spinoff, like Elfen Lied did. Maybe a housemaid Yuno. It would be hilarious.

The Elfen Lied OVA was a story adapted from the manga. Mirai Nikki covered everything except for Mosaic, which could work as an OVA.

TOOTHBRUSH
We had an entire anime about a guy who drinks a girl's drool, so toothbrush

But Madoka is a pure marketing show that isn't very creative.
The TV show itself was fine. Besides as an original show, it had nothing to market!

They may not be completely devoid of creativity, but one thing they certainly are devoid of is sensible production scheduling.

I can tell you the exact thought process that went into making this.

Aniplex: "Dang, we've got ourselves a hot, hot property on our hands. We've got to do everything we can to keep this cash train rolling as long as possible. What can you whip us up real quick, Shaft?"

Shaft: "I guess we can slap together a recap movie."

Aniplex: "Sold! Better make it two recap movies so we can take advantage of every bit of TV footage. Now what extra incentive can we throw in to sweeten the pot and get more people into the seats?"

Shaft: "Well, why don't we promise a third movie down the road with some sequel stuff? We'll make some changes to the TV events to set that up and everyone will want to come to see that."

Aniplex: "Excellent. Get to work."

(Several months later.)

Shaft: "Shit, these movies is supposed to come out next month and we haven't done jack squat. Better slap together some new backgrounds and get that thing out there. Oh, I guess we were supposed to make some changes or something. Well, can't bother with that now."

"Third movie? Ha ha ha, if we can't manage to get Kizu out, we're not going to be getting another movie out in any of your lifetimes."
Clearly they need to break out the premium ramen with the exotic flavour MSG packets! That'll get them working harder. :p

I can't believe Urobuchi is thinking of a fucking sequel series though. They might as well try to get Toei to make this show and work it into their insane Precure schedule. lol
(I think I've come to appreciate how much efficiency you must have to be able to do two movies and 50 episodes in a year.)

There's a lot of anachronism in the society and combat of LoGH, so I can see how that would be offputting if you're looking for more "hard" sci-fi.

Thinking about your statements in the past, would it be fair to say that you're looking for "A crew of a spaceship does badass things"?
I think having fleets numbering in the thousands goes back to like... Roman times though. lol

But yeah, I guess that's what I'm looking for. You have a small crew of people that can share a bond similar to one found in your standard soldier narrative, but literally put into a bottle. There's just something pretty cool about the Navy that you don't get in standard war narratives that I can't quite explain. The fact that science fiction Space Navies also get the added bonus of fighter jet porn is a bonus!

Speaking of which, I just watched the second half of the BSG miniseries and man... what a wasted opportunity. Maybe I should dig up the B5 civil war arc again.

From time to time people explain to me that the CG in Macross Zero isn't that bad. Maybe they're right. Still, it's hard to come down off:

Man, maybe I should finish the original Macross. Or rewatch MacF. I keep forgetting about that show... probably because the jets have to turn into giant robots.

And that's the episode that killed the OVA!

It happens more often than you think; I just don't always announce it! The last five shows that I dropped as they were airing were probably...hmm...
  • Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de
  • Teekyuu
  • Tari Tari
  • Campione
  • Utakoi

And that just goes back to the beginning of summer.
Why did you drop Tari Tari, you monster?

Shaft tilt is one of the greatest things to come from anime ever. I know Ikuhara started it and I dont give a shit. As long as it continues.

The Elfen Lied OVA was a story adapted from the manga. Mirai Nikki covered everything except for Mosaic, which could work as an OVA.

I'm sure they can come up with SOMETHING.

The TV show itself was fine. Besides as an original show, it had nothing to market!

I think it did a pretty good job of marketing!

The light! I can see it!

Kicking myself in the face for somehow, someway, not seeing Sekai (or any of the other girls who Makoto got it on with) getting pregnant. It's become such a cliche for these types of things that I really should have gone into this show expecting it from the beginning. But I didn't, because I'm a dumbass. Whatever. Use protection, kids.

And of course, this just about ruins Makoto. His harem that had been growing exponentially all of a sudden flocks away from him at once, since, you know, nobody wants to run around with a guy who just got his girlfriend pregnant. And he wonders why none of them would pick up their phones! Ahahahahahahah!

He then walks around, wondering why everything has gone to shit for him all of a sudden. Then he runs into Kotonoha, who has .... how should I say this... done flown over the cuckoo's nest. When they run into each other, and Kotonoha talks to him with that ...emptiness, for lack of a better word, and that total disconnect from what he's saying. Between what Manami said to him earlier and this (mostly this) Makoto all of a sudden realizes why things have gone wrong. "Holy shit! I've been a complete shit-eating douchebag this entire time". Well, he doesn't say that, but that's probably something akin to what he's thinking. Kotonoha, by going full on toys in the attic, has done the impossible; she made Makoto realize what a piece of shit he's been.

I don't know how this ends, but... I don't know. On a personal level, I don't think Makoto has suffered enough. Also, he can't seriously get back with Kotonoha, can he? She's nuts! Also, what about Sekai's pregnancy? Whatever. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

We should get her on gaf. I would say animegaf could corrupt her, but there's a good chance she's more corrupt than anyone here.
She hangs out at /a/ and /h/. Depravity is not a problem here.
Best anime ever. How long ago did you start? It took me about two months to finish.
Back in April I think?

You give Makoto too much credit.
It's not that he realises he's a douchebag, but that Kotonoha is the only one who's willing to stay with him now. He's a true simpleton.

I'm not paying for WiFi in this cheap hotel, so detailed thoughts on NeraGaku and Blood-C will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm not as down on NeraGaku as most of the people leaving the screening were (I really rather thought most of it was very good indeed), but it is decidedly not the film I was expecting and I am determined to establish if there is a reason for this.

Blood-C was pretty much exactly what I thought it would be, on the other hand!

NeraGaku was an excellent comedy movie, it's just a pretty ill-explained science fiction one. I'm pretty sure that equipped with all the necessary information, and given enough opportunities to iterate through the proceedings, it'd make sense as well, but I do kind of wonder if it's expecting too much out of the audience (or at least too much out of the foreign one, anyway).

Eh..you know you're probably right, but
he seems to realize that Kotonoha has lost her marbles because she loved him so madly. Then he gets on his knees and starts crying, so.. I don't know. That's how I interpreted it. Still, given how badly Makoto has sucked so far, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right.

He goes to whatever female's willing to put out: it's the whole reason she started doing Sekai when he had never shown any interest in her before. Kotonoha is the only girl in town at the moment ready for him to plunder.

I realize that. I pointed this part out in several of my impressions. Still, this time seemed different. Maybe I'll see in the finale if you're right and this really is his only motivation.

Beanfaces.
I hope you dropped HanaIro for the same reason. :p

I think it did a pretty good job of marketing!
Eh, I'm not going to argue that they didn't have all the toys and shit ready to go before hand, but it doesn't have the stench of "let's make a show based on a popular manga" that most anime has.

being Mini-Watashi is suffering.

the two minutes specials are too short. I can't get enough of the best mini heroine of the year.
I dunno man.
