NFL 2012 Week 7 |OT| Shhhhhhhh

Ponder just can't throw deep at all, he can't even hit anyone in stride unless it's a very short pass, his picks are him rolling out and floating the ball 3 feet over the receiver

With even an above average QB, the Vikings would be one of the best teams in the league

John Skelton: 25/36 for 262 yards 1 TD 1 INT QBR: 11.5

Give me a fucking break, ESPN.

Reposted so as not to lose it, because there were a handful of people citing QBR yesterday as though it were somehow relevant in any way.

Guy is a joke. Why should he have the answers? He's the second year QB playing mediocre football on a garbage team. Worry about yourself and let the coach, GM and owner fine the answers. Seriously, I'm not positive he can read but if he can, the only thing he does read is his own headlines from last year.

Just saw his press conference on ESPN. He looked like he was ready to blame everyone but himself

After sleeping on yesterday's win..

There's always been one thing I have never liked about Ben Rothlisberger and it has happened every game this season.

Ben always takes his foot off the gas when the Steelers get a lead. Watch for it - Steelers get ahead, the drive immediately after will always stall, and is often a three and out with Ben trying to force something big downfield.

He has done this for years. It's his greatest flaw, and before this season it worked for him because he was sitting on the Steelers defense.

This game would have been another collapse if it was any team but the Bengals. Ben did the same thing here - offense stalled when they got a lead. Only difference is the Bungholes could do nothing with it.

This is where Haley's offense will be beneficial. Ben needs to learn to sustain drives after the lead is gotten. The most important touchdown is the one after you get the lead, and that's the one that Tom Brady and (at one time) Peyton Manning make sure they get.

Uh yeah. His interception was returned for a touchdown and he had a fumble as well.

Not defending QBR just saying that its pretty easy to explain why Ponder would be credited with a more effective game yesterday than Skelton.

Love this quote from Barry Cofield on Eli after the game yesterday:

“Eli is like Joe Montana right now. He's great. When I was here, he was good, showing flashes. He's exceptional right now. He's got nerves of steel. They never feel like they are out of the game. (They have) so much faith in him, because he rarely lets them down. To beat this team you are going to bury him, then you have to put the dirt on top of him and then put the cement on top of him and then watch it dry. Anything short of that they are still in the game.”

Hurney fired?

Wow, that didn't take long... I feel bad for Panthers fans, this year has been so disappointing for them and Cam is acting whinier than ever lately.

Hurney being fired is the best thing to happen to Carolina since they made it to the Super Bowl. It almost makes this dumpster fire worth it. Almost.

No, it isn't. He had a completion percentage of less than 50% and had an average YPC of under 8. That's fucking atrocious. Skelton gave his team a chance to win. Ponder did everything he could possibly do to make sure his team lost.

The secret to QBR seems to be never, ever, ever get sacked and pray to god your team wins and throw the ball as little as possible. I'm guessing that Air Force quarterbacks have perfect Total QBR's almost every week that they win.

When Eli takes the field late, needing a score to tie or win the game, I fully expect it to happen and am shocked when it doesn't. it's an incredible feeling.

BTW, mistake-laden first half against Temple that gave way to a 3rd quarter curbstomping. That showdown with Cincinnati (who had to go fuck it all up by losing to Toledo) can't come soon enough.

He's got nerves of steel.

He does, but I sometimes feel its because he doesn't know any better. I've got this friend who plays Madden with me sometimes and he loves to go for it on 4th down, even when its shit stupid to do so. But you know what? He gets away with it almost every time. Always manages to pull some fucking ugly looking rabbit out the hat and it encourages him to do it more and then he likes to pass himself off as a good Madden player afterwards.

Sorry, I'm bitter

Round 2 on national television! Will it be as awful to watch as round 1? Probably. Over/under on how many times I ask Urlacher his what his daughters name is?
guess high

Further, on 12% of Ponder's passing plays (12%!!!) he turned the ball over. That is insane. Skelton was bad, at 5%, but 12% is ludicrous.

With that said, Hurney firing timing is really odd. Should have just waited until after the season, or fired the coaching staff along with him. I can't see the new GM wanting to continue with a coaching staff he didn't bring in.

I said it before that Eli has been the best qb so far this year. I think that is pretty obvious to anyone watching the games to this point.

At the rate Eli is racking up comebacks he might catch up to Ben sometime next season.

Ben has always played better from behind. Weird but true. He is similar to Eli in that way. Not so similar in being a sexless virgin.

But some of what you are complaining about is on the coaches. How many times have we seen Ben and the offense on fire in the first half of a game doing whatever they wanted against a defense, then we go up ten and suddenly we decide we need to run to close out the game. The only problem is we have not been able to do that consistently for like 7 years. The coaches are still calling the game as if we have an elite defense, when it is obvious that they are not. The other team throws on us and gets a lead late and then it is up to Ben to turn it on in that one drive. We win more often than we lose in that circumstance but it can be infuriating to watch it as a fan.

That said I am not sure that the coaches are wrong though. I feel like once you sell out the defense and just try to go to the Madden offense I think the defense checks out and it is hard to get that back.

If they have someone in mind then it makes sense. Let them evaluate during this lost season. If they don't hire anyone immediately then it is really, really strange.

Damn straight, for the last season or two I tend to be legitimately shocked when we lose a game. Eli is just so damn clutch it isn't even funny. Add in Cruz and Bradshaw and Brown and Hicks and guys like JPP on defense and you can never count the Giants out of a game until the game clock is done.

The cameras caught Bradshaw yelling at the RB(?) coach at one point. I just figured he was pissed he got so few touches.

Redskins were stopping the run, so I dont blame them for not running it more. God shines on the Giants passing game, so they stuck with that since it was the only way they were going to beat the horribly weakened Redskins team yesterday.

Charles Johnson ain't happy though:

Marty wasn't the reason we are losing! That's bs! Unbelievable! Marty might be the realist GM that I know #InMyMind BS BS BS BS!

The exchange between he and Coughlin was on camera as well. Bradshaw was fired up yesterday. When he broke off that 15 yard run, he turned around and slapped Cruz on the back of the head and damn near gave him a concussion.:jnc

Yesterday was a poor game for him though. Yes, the Eli that wins games showed up at the end to bail the team out again but he did his share to put us in the hole with those two interceptions. The second one was a head scratcher in the mold of 2010 Eli.

So, NFL-Gaf, got a question regarding Fantasy. This week our commish decided to hook up the lazy asses that didn't switch our bye week players. I found our because I was up almost 50 points and then was down 6 when the two best benched players showed up on my opponents active roster. The league is a money league, so I'm pretty pissed he did this, if they don't update thats on them is my take. I'm at 2-5 now, after losing two games by five or less (the points were on the bench to cover more than that) and today. I really want to just dump everyone, but am unsure what sends the best message. Should I go through and pick up all IR players, start them for the rest of the season and bench the Can't Cut list dudes, or should I actively look for the worst match ups and go for the lowest possible score with starters?

Thanks for the help.

I'd defend a guy who handed me $40m for one mediocre year too! Johnson is just worried that he will be expected to perform for that ludicrous contract now.

How can you only throw the ball 12 times in a game?
He was hurt for most of the game so he has an excuse. Ponder? Not so much.

Yesterday definitely wasn't his best game, but it was a crap shoot all around. It wasn't as bad as the Jets/Pats game but there were what felt like a million interceptions. At the same time, I still can't think of someone better to have in that situation. If Eli was still THAT clutch on an off-day, that's pretty telling.

I guess Scam is about to be starting qb/GM now? He just got the current GM fired with his whining.

Just Losez the bust is going to set the Panthers back years, and they were already near the bottom of the barrel.
