Great update, just wish they'd have brought out an EU Netflix app at the same time. I mean seriously, what's taking them so long? It's been out in the US for months. I can't even download it from there now.

Er... the screenshot function is the same as always but without the "please wait" message, you can't do s*** for a few seconds :/

Nope, you're wrong. You can't press the PS button is all. I hated taking screenshots of NFSMW before but I lost control of the car while the screenshot was saving. Not it works perfectly.

Worked fine for me, just took a while.
Ok thanks, I'll try letting it copying for 1 hour. It's pretty rare, the others copied really fast, as usual here with PSN.
Edit : It took a lot of time, the progress bar was always at 0% but it worked! :)

Browsing GAF from the Vita is pretty awesome now. It feels fast and smooth and the buttons to the right are perfectly placed.

Great update!

Glad it worked.

I uploaded all of mine at the same time, and it was stuck uploading the LBP save for ages.

Ah well, it worked, that's the main thing :)

For that to happen, the entire service has to come. :)

Tried to upload all my saves, and did it successfully with all of them but LBP doesn't want to upload. Its progress bar gets stopped at the start. Tried restarting the console, plugging and unpluging the cart, etc.

In my case it's 76MB(had some levels downloaded), the biggest one by far. Anyone else had and solved this issue?
It took me a good half an hour to upload my 100MB file. As long as the loading circle next to the WiFi icon is spinning, it means it's uploading the save (even if the progress bar shows nothing)

So with cloud saves of PS+, we don't have to worry about deleting important stuff when we delete the bubbles right?

What if you delete an app, then put it back later (with no safe then because you deleted it locally). Would the auto update then copy a blank save to the cloud, overwriting the one there?

I don't think it'd automatically over-write the cloud-save since the new save is less kb's than the older files. (new save files are 0-100kb compared to some saves that go 500kb-1mb due to what it saves)

Weird. There are two games that won't let me upload their saves to the cloud. FIFA and Dokuro. Are the saves locked for those?

I haven't checked out the new browser yet but hopefully it makes google reader usable. It wouldn't scroll down the screen for me before, and the iPad is used by everyone in my family so I usually have to resort to looking through my emails via my phone.

Other than work, I don't really use my laptop or desktop as much as I used to. Not enough time.

It's not working. I tried.

I really have no idea. :(

But the way saves work out on Vita is really awful. The saves should be somewhere else, not grouped with the gamedata so when you delete a bubble it should not delete your saves.

What pisses me off is that Crash, Spyro, etc. still aren't compatible. I was very disappointed when I still couldn't transfer them.
I don't think this is something that is fixed via firmware.

When I first tried to back up my games earlier, those that had no data (I hadn't launched a few of the games) were greyed out - so until you start them you should be safe. Definitely worth being wary of this though.

Click on the little bubble next to them.
I bet it says the location is Retail Cart.

You need to have the game inserted to uploaded.
I uploaded Dokuro HK version last night.

It's hard to miss, lol :p

Hold a trigger and touch the screen

Oh thanks, that's good to use when you want to click on small links but don't want to zoom the whole page.
I honestly don't remeber if it was there before, probably yes but it was smaller and less precise....or I'm just dreaming :D

Can someone running 2.0 and has Final Fantasy VIII tell me if the controls still randomly die during the game or if they've fixed it with the updated emulator.

I'd imagine it has been done this way for security. On the PSP, certain game saves were used for exploits. As you can't manage individual saves on the Vita, it has blocked this possible method of exploits.

still cant seem to figure out this screen size issue

been trying to play Chrono Trigger

After choosing custom screen size, then checking "keep aspect ratio" and hitting clear button, the screen filled up vertically just right and it looked like 4:3, so i was happy

but that was on the "map screen"

then whenever i go into someones house or to that fair in the beginning of the game and enter a different screen, theres a small black bar running along the bottom of the screen

its like different parts of the game have different ratios, makes no sense

its certainly not widescreen because theres no bar on top of screen, its like some weird overscan thing but only on certain scenes

gonna try syphon filter next

wait... did they update the "normal" screen mode? just tried that on syphon filter and now it fills the full screen with no bars, whereas before there were always small bars on top and bottom before...

It's not really anything new to 2.0, but I'm just noticing since I'm using the content manager now that it has wireless PC access - transfers are soooo slow. Ghost of Sparta (1.1 GB) took 12 minutes to copy from my mac to Vita. I think it would have been faster to redownload it from PSN!

I imagine this might be due to the slow read/write speeds of the memory card, yes?

Anyone know what the max speed is on the Vita's WiFi?

Transfering wirelessly to PS3 (with wake on lan) would have been great as well, but the rest of the update is pretty nifty.

Chrono Trigger? That one could be strange. You have to remember that Chrono Trigger was a SNES game. Nearly every SNES game runs at 256x224 resolution and Chrono Trigger is no exception. As a result you end up with rectangular pixels and a little bit of black space along the top and bottom. On an older CRT this wasn't obvious, but when played on a flat panel display without overscan, you'll see this issue.

What you're saying suggests that the map screen was redesigned for PSX but most of the game is simply using the original SNES visuals. Most PSX games run at 320x240 in comparison, I should note.

Ok I've finally had the time to try the new firmware. Basically it's a great update, probably what the console should have been launched with.
The browser is great, super fast, multitasking enabled with games. The only thing missing at this point is an internal link to the Youtube app.
Wi-FI content manager makes swapping contents with a PC super confortable, also now it's possible to downoad specific folders under Video.
At first I had problems setting up the Wi-Fi Content Manager, it didn't give me the code to register the Vita, I tried to uninstall it, reinstall the latest version, activate the WiFi option, restart the PC, open the content manger application on PC and then try to connect the Vita without a USB cable, and it finally worked. But basically if you're having problems, make sure that the Wifi option is selected, restart your PC and try to connect the Vita using Wifi alone.
The PSX emulator is pretty much definitive with the new options to have fully customizable touch screen and rear touch pad, plus custom screen aspect ratios. Vita is the best place to play PSone Classics.
E-mail app is nicely done and a really welcome addition. This, the new browser and Youtube are finally giving a sense to the 3G version of the console.
FULL HD videos are now supported which means that if you have a collection of 1080p videos now you don't have to re-download the 720p versions to play them on the Vita.
Also taking screenshots is now super fast.

So, so far the best firmware update the Vita has had since launch.

Agreed completely, PS Vita was already the best way to play PSP classics and a very good way to play PSOne classics, but now it is THE best way to play them (unless you talk about some high quality older CRT TV and a physical PSOne). I am really happy about the Mail application, awesome update all around!

Transfering wirelessly to PS3 (with wake on lan) would have been great as well, but the rest of the update is pretty nifty.

Since the cards cannot be tested in any other way other than in a Vita, we have no idea of their max transfer speeds. All we can do is transfer files to the Vita and get a transfer speed, but by doing that we don't actually know if the card is the bottleneck or if it is something else (USB2 speed, processing, encrypting/decryping to prevent piracy, etc)

What Eurogamer found at launch was that larger cards had slightly faster transfer speeds by like 2-3MB/s but we were only starting at like 6MB/s for the smaller cards. I don; know if it's been tested yet since the various FW updates, but it is still dog slow.

Part of why wireless content management is a boon because you don't have to leave it jacked into your machine.

Vita is Wireless N so around the same as USB2 I think. So max of like 8-10MB/s IIRC but all dependant on your distance to your router, how good your router is and how good the Vita wireless is. If it was 5GHz it would be more stable over larger distances but it's only 2.4GHz I think.

Why I love a solid wire ethernet and USB3.0 wherever I can get it.

FACK!

I forgot I only got an 8gig stick. I went to download Uncharted and didn't have nearly the space. It's sure not like a have a ton of Vita games. I had to remove a bunch of stuff. Golden Abyss is 3 gigs and I like having lots of the smaller games so I couldn't get close to downloading everything.

That's ok. The games are still yours to download whenever you like.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Sony almost got everything just right. Now they need:

- A way/indicator to see what cart you have in the system. Not that hard.
- A way to group bubbles into folders, or whatever's more convenient
- Let me use the analog to scroll on web pages
- A way to instantly see how much space is on your card, like the PSP did

They also need to patch the e-mail app already, and I'm not talking about missing basic features. If you're using hotmail, the app seems to have problems loading older messages. Luckily it has no problem getting new messages and letting you know. gmail accounts work perfectly, so it's something to do with hotmail. It's a godsend to get a message instantly :)

By the way, does the email app work with gmail if you have two-step auth working on your account?

Do you have to generate an application password in your google settings?

Some PSone classics I'll still play on my TV - Alundra for instance feels more comfortable for my eyes on a bigger screen but overall I agree about Vita being the best way to play them.

It works but yes, you do have to set up an application specific password. Your regular password will not work.

I was wondering, did sony ever get around to adding the last few ps1 games to be playable on the vita, The ones I am interested in knowing if they are playable are the crash bandicoot games the spyro games, and final fantasy 5 all of which were not playable last time I checked back in sept or so.
I won't have a vita until next week or so otherwise I would just test myself ^^;

so for anyone that is interested, i did verify with other users on gamefaqs the easy way to get the screen to fit perfectly

Set screen size on PS1 classics to custom, then check the box for "maintain aspect ratio" and pinch fingers together to make screen as small as possible

then click on the "Clear" box in the lower left and voila, it instantly maximizes the box to fit the 544 height of Vita screen while maintaining proper ratio

One thing i cant figure out... is there a way after this new update to disable rear touchpad for L2/R2?

i moved L2/R2 to the right joystick but still keep hitting those stupid rear pad areas and strafing on accident

thanks!
