Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Sorry guys, I don't own a console. Haven't for years.

Not only that but I don't really have money for a console, or want to deal with the low visual fidelity that comes with the territory.

Do I plan on expanding my game library one day? Yes, I plan on expanding my classic game library into something amazing one day, but after I graduate college.

Kind of irrelevant either way because most likely if I am able to find a copy of Metroid Prime on Game Cube, none of that money will go to Nintendo. Even more irrelevant since I don't even put optical media drives into my builds anymore, or have a console to rip the disc.

I'm sorry that offends you so much and I wish I had the money or time to go out and find a copy.

Thanks for the help, sounds pretty similar to what I've been researching.

Just as an FYI, piracy is not only a morally reprehensible act, it is a bannable offense to admit to it on these boards. And while I am sure a lot of Dolphin users in this thread don't buy their games and rip them, they don't out and out admit to it.

Is Skyward Sword a game that works well with Dolphin?

I've stopped that game after 4-6 hours or so on the Wii because I couldn't stand the constant interruption and tutorial stuff. But I've heard that this can be reduced heavily by using gecko codes. Is that something that also works with Dolphin?

Also can I transfer my Wii saves over to my PC to continue the game there?

How about playing the game with an analog stick instead of WiiMotion+ as there are only 8 directions you can slash in which an analog stick easily could emulate.

Thanks in advance!

The Dolphin Wiki has compatibility + config info for most games.. looks like Skyward Sword works pretty well.

http://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Skyward_Sword

It's definitely possible to map it to a 360 pad, I think there's a premade config for it floating around if you search. There's also videos on youtube showing how to export your save from Wii to your computer, I believe. There's also save files on GameFAQs if that doesn't work : http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/960633-the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword/saves although I don't see any near the beginning of the game. Don't know about gecko codes.

Does my DVD drive not like Wii games? Whenever I try to boot from disc, I get a "no disc found in drive" error. Using rawdump gives me a similar error. Playing normal DVDs work fine though so I don't think my drive is broken?

I've tried with Muramasa, The Last Story, and Sin and Punishment. I'm just going to assume my DVD drive doesn't read Wii games. It's a TSSTcorpsomethingsomething.

Only certain drives can read wii games, that's why most of us rip games onto a hard drive with a molded wii.

Looks like you are trying to rip from a PC? Unless you bought a DVD drive that specifically said something about ripping GC/Wii you won't be able to rip through PC.

EDIT: Beaten.

Wii Discs are not DVD Standard. Only a few (very few) DVD readers can read its content.

Oh okay. I guess it's back to actually using my Wii then.

Anyone else unable to sync their Wii U wiimotes using Dolphin ? My computer detects the wiimote, but not the emulator...

Well great, I inserted a Wii game into my disc drive and now my computer is acting up (and of course the disc drive isn't letting me eject the disc out) -_-

I pretty much erased all my saved emulatorsettings by accident :/

Anyone have some good settings for SMG 1 for the later dolphin revisions?

You can't rip Wii games from your computer unless you have one of very few old DVD-drives. You need to use your Wii.

Is there a way to use the right analog stick of a controller for "swinging" the wii? Seems to work in the config settings but not in the game. Thanks.

Depends. A generic waggle you can bind to anything mapping "Shake". A deliberate swing that arcs in some direction, you can unreliably try mapping "Swing" with, but probably not end up with something very usable.

I know that The Last Story has been discussed before, but I can't even get past the initial loading screen to get to the title menu. It freezes right after the wiimote screen that is on all games at the very beginning.

I've looked around the internet and searched this thread and haven't found a fix. I've tried the settings that were in the youtube video posted in the thread a while ago, and those didn't work. Any help? Using 3.0-843.

The wiki mentions this:

Freeze from time to time

The game might freeze when when you are transitioning from one scene to another through events, battles, and loading. The graphics will be frozen, but the music and sounds may continue playing. Setting the CPU Emulator engine to JITIL should help preventing this from occurring.

The freezing has been fixed as of version 3.0-484. Therefore you can leave the CPU Emulator engine at JIT.

Seems like the closest thing to your issue, might just be a matter of using a different revision. Looks like the game is problematic regardless though.

Shit. I'm trying to get the "swing" commands for Madworld to work. :(

If anyone knows a way to control that game without a wii remote, let me know. Mouse and keyboard or controller and keyboard combo is fine, too.

I'm totally guessing but you tried this?:

Use EuRGB60 Mode (PAL60)
Enabled Needed for the game to start

Does anyone have a text speed Gecko code for PAL Skyward Sword? All Google gives me are people asking for it and complaining that the US code doesn't work :(

I'm unable to connect my Wiimote to my computer on Windows 8.

Windows detect the controller, then prompts me to enter a passcode. What is the passcode ?

If I just press "Next", my controller is apparently connected, but the lights still flash on it. Furthermore, Dolphin is unable to pair with it.

Can someone please help ? I'd really appreciate it :(

I hope it's possible for someone to write drivers so you can use the Wii U Pro controller with Dolphin/PC games. It'd be perfect for a GC substitute, minus the analog triggers.

LOL, I've been looking around to find out the same thing. That d-pad is perfect for older games.

I haven't touched my Dolphin setup since Skyward Sword released. Has anything changed?

I really should finish Zelda before the Wii U releases here in Australia.

Hey was wondering if GAF could help me with this issue... I have been trying to use PCS2X and Dolphin on my Lenovo Y580 specs below...

lenovo IdeaPad Y580 (59345715) Notebook Intel Core i7 3630QM(2.40GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M

My issue is that dolphin seems to be using the Intel integrated graphics over the GTX 660M... When I go to graphics settings I cannot choose the GTX660M as an adapter, any idea as to why this could be?

I have had some issues with lag on this emulator and PCSX2 and I was wondering if this could be why.

Are you plugged in? Do you have your computer set to High Performance mode?

What an odd opinion. Why would anybody want jaggies?

TP looks great on Dolphin.

I think the concession is that the crt-blur/filter/low res hid some of the game's blemishes rather than it being prettier due to the jaggies.

I've heard these arguments before, and there was a thread on the topic recently, but I didn't believe it until I had this revelation while playing Black Mesa (Half-Life 1 remake for PC) a while ago. I found out that I prefer the way it looks in 720p than 1080p on my monitor. The added blur from the upscaling made it look more natural and realistic by hiding blemishes inherent in today's 3D rendering engines, while playing it on the monitor's native resolution reveals all the sharp polygon edges and seams, giving a "clinical", artificial look.

Dat PC look.

Anyone know how I can get F-Zero GX to have a good framerate? Is there any special settings that I can use? I have a MBP Retina 15" with 2.6GHz quad core i7 and 16GB ram. I only get 15-20 fps, and the game looks like it is running very slow.
