I don't particularly care if it's a PR stunt or not - it helped out someone down on their luck.
How do you know he's American? He could be from anywhere.how could there possibly be an american man that has never owned a pair of shoes? aren't they given to charities and homeless shelters?
edit: nice story though.
'Tourist from Arizona' was really NYPD.
Nice to see. Hopefully that officer gets promoted soon.
Nice to have a thread that consists of something positive about cops
So there are still good people out there.
Ugh u have issues, man.
God Bless.
I'm really tired of hearing all the negativity about the NYPD there are really good officers, and no one ever gets recognized. Good to see fellow officers doing good, and being noted for doing it.
A drop of shit can spoil a whole glass of whine.Yep, people forget that there are almost 40,000 NYPD officers. The vast majority of those I've met have been nice & helpful. Sure, the organization is probably corrupt at the top levels and there are always going to be bad seeds, but they're definitely not entirely bad.
Wow, a positive story featuring the NYPD??
Fuck the policehaters, a couple are actually good.
My old landlord was NYPD...ah the stories he told me...

Anyone else have problems doing this for long? My legs fall asleep and get all tingly.
Plenty of people do nice gestures all the time. Giving homeless money and clothes. These are things that common people do all the time and often far more significant than this.
I remember giving a homeless guy a 40 dollars on halloween a few years back on the Queens side of the 59th street bridge. He said "Be careful there are a lot of ghosts and goblins out there tonight, but you be the baddest goblin of them all" Now give me a fucking medal.
NYPD = Still shit. Still corrupt
I'd like to pretend that the NYPD didn't plan this as viral marketing to heighten their image, but between the no crime thing the other day and this...It's too convenient.

I always hated how juvenile some people are in hating the police, especially some people found in gaf threads. They are still just people. They are capable of kindness, just as much as being an asshole sometimes.
The NYPD generally pick on and harass the hell out of homeless people. It is common in Harlem for them to give tickets for "open container of alcohol", (as if the person were drinking publicly) to people that are collecting cans for the 5 cent refund.
They are also blatantly racist in their targeting. I live in Chinatown and the police turn a blind eye to things they would arrest black people for in a heartbeat (selling bootleg movies, gambling in public etc...). Chinese people gamble openly in the park playing card games on the park tables, money on display. I have even seen Chinese people gambling on a courthouse stoop, with police less than 20 feet away doing nothing. Let 3 black people roll some dice on a Brooklyn sidewalk and see how fast they'll be in the back of a paddywagon.
Good for this cop as an individual but the NYPD is still crooked as fuck. As long as it's only blacks and latinos getting the shit end of law enforcement, nobody cares.
Is this really happening today? This sounds far too similar to the stories I read of the NYPD harassing black musicians in the 40s and 50s.
Yes it's still happening today and will always happen as long as there are minorities and poor people in this country. My wife worked at a homeless rights organization in NYC; on top of being homeless these people consistently get fucked with by the NYPD.Is this really happening today?
