What console game served as your first jump to HD gaming?

Resistance 2. Even with its rough edges it still holds a spot in my heart today. God I loved those 60 player matches and trap magnum kills

Can we agree that Chicago level is the greatest level ever? the scale in that battle was insane.

Resistance: Fall of Man. The entire series has gone on to become on of my favorites. I love the Resistance games warts and all.

GTAIV on 360 got me into the current generation in 2008 but i didn't get a HDTV until early 2011, when i bought Metal Gear Solid 4 and a PS3, great game to start high definition gaming with

I think the first ever game I saw on an HDTV was like Street Fighter IV, and then the first game I remember playing on my HDTV was Red Dead Redemption. I remember being pretty amazed.

It's kind of crazy to look back and remember that I played more than half of this generation on a fairly small SDTV, then immediately jumped to a pretty big HDTV. It was night and day.

The first games that I actually played in HD were Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls. I owned an Xbox, but I didn't actually finally make the jump to HDTV until 2009 when I purchased my plasma. I had already had the 360 since 2006, and the PS3 just a few weeks prior to getting the new tv, but I had been playing on a 35 inch Trinitron, which looked "good enough" (actually really fucking good compared to most standard sets). I had been spending the majority of the time gaming on the PC anyway, so I never really felt the urge to make the leap. So for me it wasn't really what game, as much as what systems since I already owned a handful of games for each.

After gaming in HD for years though, looking at most anything other than the Gamecube or Wii games on my old set is gag inducing. Dunno, does playing briefly on a friend's DLP count?

Kung Fu Panda :(

Lego Indiana Jones was the other pack in on that specific Elite bundle.

Until I got motherfucking GTA IV and Gears of War. Those were amazing at the time.

Edit: I think I also played the ton of demos that came preinstalled on the HDD. I played the Lost Planet multiplayer demo for days without end.

I think one of the first HD games I've played was Super Stardust for PS3 or Warhawk. A friend of mine got a PS3 and upgraded to an HDTV and everything looked incredible. I had an Xbox 360 at home but only an SDTV. I thought for a while in this generation that 360 looked nice but PS3 was true HD, especially when I first saw the PS3's menu. So crisp and clear. In some ways I was right but the two are mostly the same.

First game I played when i got my Xbox 360 + a big flatscreen was Viking: Battle for Asgard. Still remember how blown away I was, everything was so bright and shiny.

ill say god of war 3 on ps3. sh*t blew my mind. dont think i had any true HD experiences on ps2.

If only the last 80% of the game could have matched the first 20%. The first part of that game was so fucking good, but then the rest of the game just turned to the same shit over and over again, and it also made it seem like Kratos could simply sneeze at a god and they would die. It was so over the top it became corny.

Rainbow Six Vegas was the first game I bought with my 360. I remember thinking the graphics were fucking incredible... for about a week until I bought Gears.

I did play PC games at weird resolutions on my PC though, but not 720p.

Like others, I had already done quite a bit of HD gaming on the PC but as far as consoles go I think my first HD game was Kameo. While some of it's previous gen roots are readily apparent, it's still a stunning game in places. Also I think the first time I played Geometry Wars, I wanted to hump my tv.

Viva Pinata

lol

You laugh but this is still one of my favourite looking games this generation. It's a shame there will never be another sequel, or that Nintendo can't get their hands on the IP because I think it would work really well on the touchpad.

Fall Of Man.
Some good ass co-op right cheer.

edit- Also Folklore demo. That game looked stunning. Nailing graphics and art-style in one fell swoop

Project Gotham Racing 3 on Xbox 360 launch.

I spent hours marvelling at its beauty, particularly in the garage taking screenshots.

Oh and those saying GT4 on PS2 was 1080i? It was 1080i in the menus but only 480p in game. Just sayin'.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

I thought I'd wasted £300+ on the PS3. Along with the console menus, the graphics were shite, the IQ was grainy, the colours were washed out, the text was barely readable.

Turned out I was using a defective SCART block for the first half hour. Fixed it when I got a little mad and decided that there must have been something wrong with a cable, as it looked so terrible, and tried another SCART lead. never looked back, even moreso when I swtiched to HDMI :)

My first HD experience was playing Gears of War at 1080i on my 32" Philips CRT...after playing a lot of last gen games on it the clarity and the overall visual quality was out of this world back then.

Hopefully Epic will do this again (Samaritan game? please do it Epic).

Nope. The other way around actually. The resolution on the TV reads 1080i.
