Uncharted 2: Among Thieves |OT2|

I can go on. No bullshit loadouts, no weapon mods, no melee-fest. And I can't emphasize enough how much better the shooting is. It doesn't feel like I have Parkinson's whenever I pull the trigger. Took me by surprise because I normally have to twitch the stick around to correct the recoil but I didn't have to do much. Some may cry that it's noob friendly but I don't give a shit. I'll take the way I'd prefer a gun to handle in a VG over some aribitrary learning curve/low rank weapon choice.

Amen. I prefer the way UC2 felt and looked overall than in UC3.

I was always satisfied shooting and getting a kill back in UC2, not so much in UC3 where kills feel as random as playing the lottery.

I just don't know who's decision was it over there at ND to change up the shooting mechanics so much. The choice feels arbitrary because I see no discernible improvements or advantages to this mechanic.

I'd take the sounds of the guns in UC3 along with the health and leg hitbox and paste back into UC2 and ND you can have my monies.

I wasn't overly disappointed in either twist. But i'd say the twist is probably better than Uncharted 1's. If you can call it a twist.

I wasn't disappointed, I just hated the feel of the combat directly after the twist in the first which is what bothered me but it went back to normal by the end.

I'm afraid to highlight any of those since I just started it like 15 mins ago. :( Is it as disappointing at least?

Just keep in mind the series is like indiana jones. It'll always have some whacky stuff.
It's a lot less out of the blue than U1.

Loved the U1 twist, turned it into a mini survival horror game. the change of pace was welcomed, since waves and waves of cover shooting started becoming tiring.
it's especially cool when you replay the game and notice hints of the twist everywhere.

Yeah pretty much. It makes sense in context of the story and isn't some complete supernatural bullshit like in 1.

Ya, the twist was very indiana jones so that wasn't what bothered me but the combat for the waves was just very annoying and I disliked the different feel compared to the rest of the game.

Going to replay this before Christmas since it come with the infamous PS3. I played it years ago when it came out just once, so I really forgot most of it. Excited to see everything again! Do people still play this online? I assume yes since it was bundled.....

Ah you lucky cock :p

Oh man the memories.

emerging through the tunnel and seeing the mountains was one of my favourite gaming memories. Those mountain vistas are probably the most breathtaking vistas I can think of. And to top it off, the fight after the train crashes is so goddamn good, there are a tonne of ways to approach the battle and its so tense.

Uncharted 2.

Yup. I haven't played it in a year, but there's still a decent sized community from what I've heard. You should have no trouble finding matches.

Sweet... A bump. Must mean that a sequel to this game is about to be announced. Right?

(Going to pretend that UC3 isn't a sequel to this superior game.)

Got a PS3 a week ago, beat Uncharted 1 and have a couple chapters to go in Uncharted 2. Probably will save those for tomorrow night to play some Valkyria Chronicles tonight.

Incredible game. I do agree with some people that it seems like it peaks in the middle with Nepal city & the train sequence, but it's still very good even after its plateaued.

Is UC3 really that bad?
IMO after you experienced UC2, UC3 will be very disappointing. Single player wasn't as good as 2's. There was only two areas in 3 that I felt were really good that compare to the good parts of UC2. All my opinion of course. I've replayed UC2 a lot of times while I replayed 3 two times and have no intentions of ever replaying it.

So how does UC1 rank to the others than? UC2>UC3>UC1 from what you guys are saying? Or is 1 and 3 switched? UC3 is oddly enough the only one I don't own but apparently the GOTY version did come out so I'll probably pick it up when I have time now.

Edit: I really really don't get why the changed the button to reload in UC2, throwing me off so much after literally finishing UC1 at like 2am today.

Yeah, I gotta say that train level is one of the best levels of this generation.

But the boss battle sucked. I was trying to beat it on the hardest level and soaked the guy with a zillion bullets. I didn't realize that the only want to win was to do the QTE sequence.

They really cut it close with the train level. It almost came to a point where ND had to cut it out entirely and as such, the boss battle in the end didn't receive any polish.

As for UC3. Yeah, better puzzles, bad pacing, horrible horrible shooter design.

Both UC1 and 2 have elements within the combat that makes me want to keep coming back. They tried to combine them both in 3 like having the more aggressive AI of 1 and the intricate arenas of 2 and somehow fucked it up completely. The AI is aggressive to the point of mental retardation, the spawn triggers are even worse than UC1, Nate's animations sometimes get in the way of player input, and the mechanics in general are more sluggish than the first two. Ugh, one of the biggest disappointments this gen.

Yeah fighting Macho Man Randy Savage (nWo) there at the end was quite a bummer.

I think somewhere there were statements made that that boss was a last-minute decision that they regretted.
(Just like that whole train bit only got together one month before launch.)

That is how I would rank it. And if I had to include Golden Abyss, I would rank it UC2>UC3>UC1>U:GA. That being said, I loved all of them. Including Uncharted 2-style multiplayer in Golden Abyss would have easily put it ahead of UC1. As it is, they have to be compared only by their campaigns, and I simply found Drake's Fortune more compelling.

I'll take UC3 over UC2 anyday but it really depends on what you want out of it at the end of the day. If you want a "game" go with UC2, if you want more of an experience, go with UC3. It is hard to compare the two honestly, at their cores they utilize drasticlly different formulas and philosphies in design.

I would bang a hot farmer!
Definetly not. It's just that U2 was so damn good, that it was almost impossible to surpass it.
I absolutely loved U3, but it did seem rushed at parts(mainly the story).
Exactly, the story wasn't good and was only there to get you to the set pieces, even if the route it took to get you there didn't make sense.

UC3 Chapter 11 spoiler
Why does Talbot run away from Drake when Marlowe and Rameses are sitting at the table with Drake? Easy, Naughty Dog wanted a chase sequence. It didn't make sense for Talbot to run away when he could've turned around and attacked Drake and had help doing it.

Is UC3 really that bad?

of course not, all 3 are great games.
uncharted 3 is pretty good, but it feels that it was made by the b-team in the studio (and it was, most of the people that worked on uncharted 2 moved on to last of us).
game had some weird glitches at launch (like characters spawning right in front of you, clipping through walls, it felt the least polished game of the 3, and i didn't have any problems with 1 and 2), they tweaked the aiming controls that were the same after the previous 2 games, story was kind of a mess, overall the game just had too many little issues for me.
i loved the game though, you didn't play uc3 so i'm not gonna say anything, but there are a few levels/setpieces which are unbelievable.
the characters are still there, the performances are still there, the gameplay is still there, so if you enjoyed uc1 and 2 (that you're playing right now) chances are you're gonna like uc3.

tl;dr uncharted 2 is one of the best games this generation, it was gonna be hard to top that, but uc3 is a very good game.

The problem with the uncharted series is more that uncharted 2 felt like Uncharted 3 - just such a huge leap, then uncharted 3 felt like uncharted 3.5. Still excellent but more just logical progression.

My favorite level is probably Desperate Times (mild spoilers to follow here). Feels like this perfect vertical slice of Uncharted. The awesome helicopter/falling building setpiece. Big combat set up at the beginning. Climbing the hotel is a nice mix of combat and traversal. Plus Elena pops up at the end. So many good chapters though.

Not to forget the really good Golden Abyss.

UC2 > UC:GA > UC3 > UC1

And UC1 itself is an awesome game. Says something about this whole series of games.

I love the UC series, but GA not so much. One of the best things about UC for me is how many of the combat encounters are little sandboxes in their own right. You can approach them in many different ways. Think the Tibetan village in 2 or the ship graveyard in 3. GA doesn't have these, it's basically a linear pop and cover shooter with some touchscreen gimmicks thrown in. 2 is the peak of the series, but 3 is a much better and varied game than GA.

So, fuck me, but how the hell do you shoot with an AK-47 online? Everytime, some chump can kill me with 2-3 shots from the AK while I have to shoot at them for a good 10 seconds. I looked up some online games and it seems like some people can have their reticle focused instead of the gradual open which means sharper shooting, but even with the boosters my AK still spreads out and can't get a good shot. What the fuck am I doing?
