iTunes 11 |OT| Let me expand on that

So, all of my music files have complete information attached to them, but on a large number of tracks iTunes will not display anything but the song name. I have deleted the library and reloaded it and no luck. All files were copy and pasted from my old iTunes folder onto an external drive when I switched to an SSD and then I used add folder to iTunes to add them again. Windows media player displays all info correctly. Any idea how to fix this? Apple forums have been no luck.
I would download a tagging program and try to convert the tag info to a different ID3 version.

Is there a way to show the currently played song in the library? There's a command "To current song" (*) in the context menu of the LCD pane, but it doesn't do anything for me.

* translated, don't know how it's labelled in the English localization

I've been trying to use iTunes 11 without the side bar, and it gets a little better. My flow for navigation requires more clicks - like I'm in the store and I want to sync, I have to click the devices buttons, select my iPhone, and hit sync.

It's not crazy bad, but I turned on the side bar again to view how many app updates I had on a non-logged-in account, and it was such a breath of relief. The side bar is generally so much easier and flowing to navigate. I might just switch back.

I mena I LOVE the cleanness - like removing a bunch of buttons, and assigning views to each 'mode' (album/artists, etc), but it's just a little less functional. I can see if they worked on it a bit, it could be better though.

iTunes has ALWAYS been a testing ground for Mac UI (why, I don't know), and I would like it to be improved upon and extended to rest of Mac OS. Stuff like a cleaner header bar and things. Something I think I heard on MAcbreak brought up a good point - the interface with grid view is very much suited to a touch screen interface - touch albums, bigger buttons, less fiddly little click targets (when side bar is off). Whtehr this is just a unification of OS style or something more foreshadowing....

When I click on "Go to current song" in the context menu in the "LCD" panel, it highlights the currently playing song.

Doesn't it just show at the top in the middle?

Hit Ctrl+L.

Hit Ctrl+L.

Yes, that's the same command. I just noticed that it does work indeed, but not if I filtered for different artists/albums with the column browser when the song view is active. That was the case when I posted my previous post. Under all other conditions - a) song view is active, song is not filtered out, or b) any other view is active (doesn't matter if the song's filtered then) - it does work.
Probably a bug, can you reproduce it?

I haven't seen this asked before:

Why isn't the option to not show 'Explicit" labels on songs purchased through the iTunes store working?

Is there any way to fix this?

It seems that if you have filtered out, either via search or through selecting via column browser in song view, the "Go to current song" does not work.

For example, even if I have Album view, and in search, I have filtered the current song OUT, and it is not in current view, then "go to current song" will not work.

It seems to me that is by design, essentially, it's searching your current view for the current song. I guess it could be a bug too.

I understood now.

Yeah, I have this exact same issue as well. It has to be a bug, there's no reason Ctrl+L shouldn't be working just in Song view or when searching. The whole point of the command is to reset your current view and go to the song.

I'm not sure I get you - how can an album added to itunes be in the album part but not in the library at all?

DO you mean it's nowhere to be found in the other views?

yeah.

its in my 'recently added' playlist. and from there i can move it to any other playlist. it only shows up when im in the playlist view tab.
but it doesnt show up in the artist, album or genre tabs in my library.
and when i search for the album it doesnt show up it shows no matching results.

all while im listening to the damn thing, so clearly it works. but its like itunes cant add it to the other views.

its really weird.

That sounds weird. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the Media Kind setting is set to something other than Music. Right-click, Get Info > Options and check there.

I would also try deleting all info but song titles from the tags, saving, and putting it back in.

That is very weird. Have you tried deleting it and adding it again?

(although not sure how you can delete it if you can't find it, lol - deleting from a playlist won't remove it from the library)

Are the metadata all good for it? Like artists and album names are entered in correctly?
Maybe you can change some metadata to see if it appears, and just change back afterwards.

tried changing the name and its not still showing up.
the Media Kind is right.
im pretty consistent w/ managing my library and this is something i've never encountered.
i doubt im the only one having this problem though. i'll try some more things and see what happens.

There must be a command to delete it from the library via playlist (like a cmd+delete or something, that removes it not JUST from the playlist).

Good call on checking the media kind - how about actually CHANGING the media kind and then changing ti back to see if it jiggers it into place? Check it has not gone in as a movie file, or something else not flagged to show. It's gotta be something like this right? Or just an outright bug.

I assume the files made it into iTunes library folder ok - maybe just check. Also do the usual restart iTunes (maybe even a restart in case the app caches). ARe there library repair functions in iTunes?

I need a bit of help.

I was cleaning some of my main drive today when i noticed that itunes takes up a whopping 4gb of space caching album art and stuff. I didnt even have itunes installed on this drive :)C), but instead installed on a seperate terabyte drive altogether.

I want to re-install everything onto a seperate drive completely, but keep anything off of my SSD which itunes won't do for whatever reason (I've backed up all of my original preferences and library. After re-installing on my :F drive and redirecting where itunes should be looking for my library, it still starts to re-create the old folder onto my :C drive).

How do I stop this from happening?

You confused me with your wording. When you say you're "redirecting where iTunes should be looking for the library," do you mean the songs or the library files themselves?

Reinstalling on another drive doesn't really give an advantage, because the album art caches in the directory where the library files are--it has nothing to do with where the program is installed. If this isn't what you've already done, to make the album art cache on a different drive, what you have to do is take your library files and put them wherever you want. Then when you open iTunes, hold Shift and it'll ask you to look for your library.

Also, how many albums do you have? That sounds like too much space taken up by the cache. I have 1600 albums and it only takes up 611 MB. You can delete the cache files and see if it takes up less space when it rebuilds everything.

If that reduces the size, I would keep the cache on the SSD. The speed really improves the performance of the program when loading all the artwork for the first time.

Weird thing happening with iTunes 11 for me. I was using the Grid view and the numbers it displays next to the tracks are the actual track numbers, which is cool enough. It actually pointed out an album was somehow out of order for me so I switched to the List view and fixed them. Only thing is, in Grid view, the tracks are still in their old mixed up order even though I fixed the playlist itself. I set up a new playlist and fixed it, restarted iTunes, etc. and the changes still haven't applied.

Does anybody know a way to fix this?

i've got about 30,000 albums which is why the cache was so large. I'll try out the shift thing.

The cache was on an SSD, but that is already woefully short in space (only an 80gb drive) and it's tough to cut corners with stuff on there atm.

Am I just dumb or is there no way to see how many songs you have?
It was written at the bottom before iTunes 11.

EDIT : nvm, I had to toggle it.

Kammie

He probably does.

You can try to create a junction of the cache to a backup on a different drive.

That's exactly what I happen to do! I do it with a RAMDisk.

But I only use it because I don't want the library file on the RAMDisk, so I keep the library on C.

It works perfectly, but I think he should be able to solve his issue the way I suggested, unless he's experiencing a bug.

No way as far as I know. You could use artist view, but you just don't have a text only list.

Does anyone know how I can force iTunes to open maximised on Windows 7?

Because everytime I open iTunes ever since the 11 update, iTunes will never open fully maximised and will always cut off the right hand part of the window (the scroll bar for example).

Now if I minimise iTunes and then navigate back to it then iTunes always seems to fix itself and show the entire window. I've tried going into the run properties and changing that to 'Maximise', but it still makes no difference.

Hope I can get some help with this.

Screen resolution is 1366 x 768.

I have this same problem, it is really tacky :/

yeah that happened to me, i think i double clicked the top of the window so it maximises, shut it down and did it once more, now it seems to be ok

What's the deal with the Compilations/Various Artists distinction? I can't get anything new to show up under "Compilations" in Artist View, but they do show up when I use the column browser in Songs. What's the deal?

And is there any way to show album art in the sidebar?

Maturity, bitches.
A bloke at work apparently has a problem with his library once he upgraded to 11. The moment he search for a song a enters a or u as the first letter it crashes. Apparently it has stumped Apple as well.

There is no chance I believe for even half a second that someone has 30,000 albums. Hell even 10,000 is insane.

I have 1140-ish and I think that's a TON, but I could see someone having maybe twice or three times as much. 9 or 10? BS.

Fixes the keyboard focus problem too, so that the "previous" button isn't always highlighted.

Does it by any chance fix scrolling with a mouse wheel, goes at a snails pace through the library when the touchpad scrolls just fine.

Didn't fix the issue with app syncing. I don't want to delete them manually on my iOS device every time stupid iTunes.

I'm getting used to not having that album art in the corner. I really only used the art work in the corner when in library management mode. Most of the time when I listen, I'm just searching for an album and hitting play. I do wish in album view the albums would be sorted by year of release though. That's how I organize my albums and books and such.

Argghhh, no artwork.

I still get that window-resize glitch when opening up the program. Makes me assume that Apple was probably working on this right as 11 released. I'm still holding out hope.

Search is definitely better though, now there's no delay/waiting for the search results to refilter when switching views.
