Well this is amazing. And I see they've built trophies into the game to make the future patch as easy as possible! :p

A little short of 2m at the moment, but I feel like I'm just getting to grips with it - there are clearly some more advanced techniques that I don't have down just yet. I also have a tendency to panic when the alarms start...

Picked it up and hit #39 on the leaderboard first game I played. Still a little fuzzy as to how to get point bonuses and the best way of clearing each board... but the game is pretty fun.

This game is indeed amazing. Futurlb delivers as usual. First run at 1.4M, second at 2.3M, nearing the top 10. Will play more seriously tomorrow :D
Edit : do you guys open valves to boost score ?

I only open valves to stop the pressure building.

Anyway, you'll find a changed top 5 now :)

Anybody else feel amazing when you get that power up that changes all the blocks to the same color? Finger's just flying around that Vita screen clearing all those blocks.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

Especially when you still have stars left and then use that powerup to make a long combo.

Cant tell how useful they are in the normal play, but when I have enough stars at the end of a level, I try to open the corresponding Valve before popping all the stars. Usually gives me around 50k points. My highest from this was 120k I believe.

Ironically, I didnt use these techniques for my highscore. I was just mindlessly grinding everything as fast as I could. If I'd have played the first 20 levels "properly" I could have easily made 2M more.

YES

600k points in a single end of stage bonus -- feelsgoodman

is it just me, or does activating the pressure gates feel a little unresponsive when the alarm starts?

How did you get that?

it was a long pure star clear chain with the pressure gate open, and I think a multiplier block as well

600k? Sweet jesus. Is that star bonus + cyborg + vent bonus? Or something else as well?

Anyway I'm done for the night, I will try again tomorrow. Great game, and Toma add my 2.7m score pls

Seriously? What am I missing here? Largest I have gotten is 62k

I get 120k pretty reliably. Keep all the star blocks until the end of the stage, open a vent, then GO.

Well, at least they'll apparently unveil something Velocity related this friday. Considering the quality of their latest outings, my hype is through the roof.

lol, you ACTUALLY put 2.7m :p

Actual number is 2,720,097

lol, yeah. I am currently hunting some records in MotorStorm and couldnt check :p

FuturLab does it again! Loving this game! Now it's time to climb those leaderboards. Love the "To Beat" feature for high scores too!

I am still severely missing friend leaderboards =/

With this knowledge I will have the power to destroy!

I got to the level I did by getting 31k TOTAL at most... You can imagine how fast that fricking bar filled up. Or is that how it works?

Wait, opening vents gives more points? I've only been doing that when it starts becoming difficult.

It doesn't even automatically put your PSN name on the leaderboards, I assume due to the SDK, so hopefully once that's allowed it'll be fine.

Until that point I'm putting all of my bad scores up as Toma. :p

To think that this game was coded by one young guy in 3 months is cool. Exactly what PSM is supposed to be about.

Will be downloading today.

Nice, will download later! ^_^

I can't break the 2m barrier. :(

Does anyone know if it's possible to tell how many stages have been cleared on the way to a score? I'm curious, but I'm sure people are reaching my scores with way less clears than I am.

Any tips are appreciated
other than to stop sucking

Levels 2 to 10 are as follows:

50000, // 2
100000, // 3
150000, // 4
200000, // 5
250000, // 6
300000, // 7
350000, // 8
400000, // 9
450000, // 10

And then you level up every 100,000 points.

So, the better you are at the game (the better you are at strategically using the blocks and vents for the biggest clearance bonuses), the quicker it gets harder.

Tip 1: Chip away at all the blocks that aren't stars to leave the stars til last, open the corresponding vent to match the star colour (hope you've got a couple of multipliers in there), and then tag the lot.

Tip 2: Study the trailer, the way I've set up the screen before triggering a Frenzy Block, so I can nail all the blocks left on screen in one massive chain.

Enjoy!

Thanks, I'll check that out. I've been trying where possible to leave the stars to the last, but it's not always working out. Couple that with the fact that, when I'm concentrating on strategy, I forget about the pressure and that when the pressure alarms start going off I get into a panic and can't match shit. :p

I'll learn!

Also, for levels I meant in terms of clearing the the blocks on screen rather than the player levelling (that I assume increases the speed in which the pressure builds?).

Great stuff.

So basically I was just torturing myself for longer by not understanding how to play the game... got it!

Such a fun game. My hi-score name is Phosphor. Don't have my vita on me so no score to tell. =[. Got it late last night. So fun.

Board's getting competitive. If I don't amp it up, I'm probably going to fall off the top 10 soon. Yikes.

So close yet so far from cracking 3 million. The pressure building up and not being able to vent it kills me lol. That and the rotating color square can go play in traffic.

Edit: Someone should pass the word to Sony that the PSM games need to be surfaced in the PSN store on the vita under New Releases and Featured as well. Have it redirect users to the PSM section. Games like SURGE need way more exposure.

That would make SCEA have to acknowledge that PSM exists.Good luck with that.

SCEE are the same. Ridiculous that it doesn't even show up in the search.

I think this site is banned, but the devs think it needs more exposure as well:

Are you happy with how accessible PSM is through the PS Vita’s PSN Store, or should it get a more visible, more prominent placement?

It would be good if PS Mobile games showed up in the PS Vita games categories, with a label ‘PS Mobile’ next to the game title.

EDIT: Yup. Starred out is playstationlifestyle dot net.

Currently showing this game to a couple of friends who like the look of it. :)

Yeah the different sections are essentially different stores - search for a PSM game/Film in the Game section and it won't find it. At least SCEE actually do review codes (which i believe SCEA still does not do).

Seriously, fuck that colour changing square. I usually start off on that and then connect it to whatever colour it decided to turn into. Much easier than trying to put it on the end of a combo

Take him out, you know it makes sense. :p

Questions:

  • Is there any way of telling when the vents are going to close?
  • Is there any benefit to clearing your vented star blocks to clear the board, as opposed to doing it earlier in the round if you have the chance?

I'm sure there are more, but my mind is blank. I can consistently score 2m+ now, but something is holding me back and I'm not sure what.

That list function is amazing :-o You have my eternal gratitude.

Also:
1. Only getting a feel for how long they stay open and then "knowing". Consider it a skill to master by playing.
2. You should always keep the Star blocks until last, if possible, since you get extra points for scoring them last.

Thought as much.

A couple more points that just came back to me:

  1. Should you hit the multipliers blocks first? Initially I thought it would just multiply the score at the end but I caught a glimpse of the individual scores on the blocks and I thought it increased on those I'd hit after the multiplier.
  2. In such an intense game, I'd really like the timer to stand out more than it does
  3. When you leave a single block and it drops another of the same colour (or a special block) - is there any logic to where it gets dropped, or is it random? I ask this because FUCK ME if it doesn't keep dropping in precisely the worst place possible.

EDIT: Scratch that first one, the lower score was actually the multiplier block, which seems to get attributed the normal block score without the multiplier applied.
