Here, allow me to shit on an entire community by saying they don't understand the game.
What the hell is your problem, did I kill your dog or anything?

I'm not saying the rest of GAF doesn't get Halo, but Ghal's and Dax' posts show a level of insight into the universe and mechanics of Halo that is above most or even all other posters.
No need to get all salty just because I didn't praise your posts. Do a neat write-up and I'll mail you a picture of me giving you a thumbs-up, if that makes you feel better.

Those sections would have been out of place in Halo 4. We can't just play Halo 3 over and over again. They would have been out of place in Halo 4, which is meant to be the start of a new trilogy. You have to work your way up to those kinds of levels, you can't just start with them. It's also losing sight of other aspects of the series. Weapon variety, enemy types and enemy placement are a bigger part of the series than trying to replicate Halo 3's setpieces over and over again.

Maybe it's because I'm a spoiled PC gamer and played Crysis and Half-Life 2 50+ hours each. But Halo 3's idea of "variety" doesn't do much for me.

Halo 3 also had some great on-foot encounters. A few examples:

(The fact that you can choose to fight the Chieftain in a 1v1 alone makes this one of the best moments of all Halos)

Shoutout to AscendantJustice.com for their great Hindsight: Halo 3 series.

Epic_encounter.jpg

This one wasn't as good. They didnt give me enough BR ammo to kill the Brutes so I had to keep driving back to previous already cleared areas to get ammo I left behind. Even then that wasn't enough and was forced to find a way to drive my chopper over the gap on the highway so I could use its guns to kill the remaining enemies.

But there's such a good balance between them!
It would've been a better balance if Cortana and the first half of Halo were better on-foot levels and we didn't fight Flood through the entirety of them.

What I liked most about the encounter was that it fairly subtlely encouraged you to hole up in the little structure at the top left of the picture. It creates a certain flow to the battles in the area. I also love grabbing the sniper on the platform shown at the bottom of the picture. I didn't even know you could go there, let alone that there was a Sniper, until I played through the campaign several times.

Yeah. This is something that I feel Halo 4 lacked; you weren't rewarded for exploring. Hell, most times that you go off the scripted path you're either met with a soft kill barrier or are just instantly killed... Or you break the Mammoth level. I can't remember CE too well so I'm not going to bring it up, but in Halo 2 and even 3 exploring usually paid off. Whether that was in the form of weapons (Loved how there were snipers and BRs on New Mombasa and Swords and FRGs on Regret in Halo 2. Plus the Scarab Gun), skulls, terminals or just easter eggs. And even to an extent, better vantage points.

Are there any actual Easter eggs in Halo 4? Anything even remotely rewarding to those who explore levels? Terminals weren't exactly difficult to find. 343i had a whole planet to work with but I felt like we were stuck in small linear (in what seem to be) corridors for most of the campaign. What Dax said about the Waypoints really didn't help either... The moment you stop progressing forward in the mission, Cortana starts droning on in your ear telling you to hurry the fuck up.

MLG will be one of the ranked playlists probably. shocking

The plan is for all playlists to be "ranked", at least that's what 343 said when they announced the ranking system.

No joke, just took me a solid couple of minutes to figuring out how to look at my own file share in the game.

I seriously hope not. I play Halo to relax and have fun but if it's going to be anything like Halo 3's ranked playlists then it's going not going to be fun at all... People took them far too seriously. I got sooooo many hate messages because I was a "shitty colonel".

Sure, I could ignore ranks as they'll be on Waypoint, but even then it's not an enjoyable experience when others are 'super serious'.

I hope they give us social playlists.

I had a twinkie today for the first time.

Shit.

Horrible Cake disgusting cream

In other news I bought Black Ops 2 which is okay in MP. Good things and bad things.

Also grabbed the first edition of the Star Trek TNG Doctor Who crossover graphic novel. Which is a fun read.

What's a good UK comparison for a twinkie??

Silly question, but how do I know how many kills I have in a match? I thought I knew but the marker on the score board. But it will say 15 , and then I finish with like 20+

Nothing Really.

At a push id say individual Victoria sponge cakes minus the Jam but that is unfair. The whole thing tasted cheap and if that what passes as cream in the US id be ashamed.
It doesn't. You know what you're getting into when you get a Twinkie here and 'gourmet' is never one of those words.
