Square Enix is apparently inspired by Bioware's success and set their sights on making their own Dragon Age 2.

I'm sure it's Toriyama and Watanabe doing the script again.

I just hope he doesn't ignore Fang again.

The only character he does in the entire set that I actually like and he acts as if she doesn't exist damn it.

I guess it could be worse though, he could bow to the people who want Hope and Lighting to get it on.

From this trailer we can derive several depressing points.

1) Square no longer has the means or prestige to procure industry-leading designers, programmers and engineers.
2) Square no longer has enthusiasm or drive.
3) Lightning, cool as she is, can't carry a game.
4) Square has had enough of this cruel world, and just wants it all to end.

FF will continue to be on a downward spiral as long as Toriyama is there.

I hate to say it, but I think this is true. I love FFXIII despite its massive shortcomings, and thought FFX was ok, but everything else he's had a degree of control over has been awful. The day Kitase stepped down as Mr. Final Fantasy was the day Final Fantasy stopped being good.

Combat terribly lacks impact.

All dialog and story sounded boring and uninteresting.

Like the rest of FFXIII trilogy, feels nothing like an FF.

I can continue to ignore this I guess.

Did this start as a concept for another game? This looks like it was going to be something else and then it had Lightning added to it partway in.

Of course they have, they are just all working on A Realm Reborn.

Seriously. XIII-2 trailers looked laggy/low framerate too, and instead the game looked beautiful. Just wait.
It's too bad that the final retail product had framerate dips as well. If this game is intended to be more actiony or at least allows that player to have a more hands-on experience with attacking (and going by that HUD it certainly does not look like that at all), then a stable framerate is essential.

XIII-2 had Frame problems and was a noteable step down from XIII in production values. Using XIII-2 as an arguement for this, even more so with the rumored to be extremely short dev times doesn't inspire confidence.

Don't get your hopes up, man.

The fact this is coming before VS already kills me. Must you stomp all over the small hopes for a silver lining?

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII looked graphically better, and gave the same gameplay feeling that this trailer gives when it comes to "exploring" bland towns.

Still the same shitty battle system. Its the worst battle system in Final Fantasy history.

Yes, though it does look to be different. Never understood love for the FFXIII battle system. Always felt too chaotic and random. Like an action system wrapped up in a forced turn and menu-based one.

Her outfit is horrid. Even knowing I can change her outfit in-game doesn't help the fact that I won't buy this game, if that's seriously going to be her main outfit and I'm a huge FF fan. This is getting ridiculous, I just want to play as Noctis. I've been waiting 6 years for Versus XIII, and instead of putting all their development efforts on the only Final Fantasy game fans really seem to care about, they make this shit? 10/10 mad.

Okay this looks bad but I can't agree with this.

Anything out side of the main character models look liked complete garbage in Dirge. So does this, but it still exceeds what SE did with the garbage that was Dirge.

The final game mainly had framerate drops in Academia, since its a huge city. The trailers showed it during the battles, which you don't see in the final product at all.

This really looks like Assassin's Creed. Her cape. The colours employed...

There were still some framerate drops during battle. Not necessarily noticeable since it doesn't always impact play. But in this circumstance? When you have to roam on your own? Yeah, that might be a problem.

It'll be interesting to see how this sells, and if lower sales of XIII-2 and Lightning Returns affects XV when it releases. FF games seem to be getting shittier with each release lol. I used to love the series, but I can't take it seriously anymore.

Just got home and saw the trailer properly.

I... I never asked for this. Really. And I wanted a XIII-2 sequel.

Was that trailer quickly removed all over because it used footage that clearly shouldn't have been shared ? It was running at 15 fps at points and looked very unfinished.

That said... I think I know what they're going for with the battle system- straight up action game this time but with an RPG style bar at the bottom. The attacks on the lower right seem to be arranged to correspond with all 4 face buttons and if I had to further wager a guess, I'd say certain actions will put your character in a limit break mode similar to how the devil trigger worked in devil may cry.

13 days also tells me it'll just play out as 13 stages, the question really- will it be majoras mask style where you just roll back time or slow it down ? Or perhaps , ninja gaiden 3 style- you simply play 1 day per stage and each stage has a town portion, story portion and an action stage portion concluded with a boss fight. Not unreasonable given that FF13 worked roughly that way.

Finally- is anyone else thrown off by lightning being the same voice actress as Liara in mass effect ? comes off sounding like angry liara ... since I've played quite a bit more ME then I have FFXIII...

Oh wow why does the graphics looks like shit? Is it because the compression of YouTube or something? And WHY does the battle system looks the same as FFXIII? I thought they would have changed it or something -_-

Anyway her costume makes her look like a superhero or something...don't really like her new costume.

Gotta capture that western audience!

You know, I can accept the top half of her new outfit. It's a little strange, but fine, whatever. But the bottom half... Why are those pant-thingies there? They do nothing but look vaguely samurai-like when she's standing still and providing pockets where she could (theoretically) store things. I wish they had kept her XIII-2 armor.

Gameplay looks fun. I'm curious to see how XIII's battle system works when you only have 1 character. In previous games it was really dependent on having at least 2 characters; not being able to do my usual Rav/Rav/Com will be weird. Everything in the trailer (including battles) takes place in the same city. Perhaps it'll be like The Last Story, where everything revolves around one city and its outskirts?

I'm very curious as to how this new city (Luxaria?) fits in to everything and where/when it exists relative to XIII and XIII-2. The places in XIII-2 fit in reasonably well with what was established in XIII, but the whole Etro thing felt very forced and I thought it didn't mesh well with the established mythology. I'm both looking forward to and dreading what random new stuff they try to retcon into the setting this time.

I'm pretty disappointed. This is coming from someone who loves XIII and thought XIII-2 was at least decent. LR also looks... ugly and colorless.

Saw the trailer and I'm really hyped for the game now.

The FFXIII games have a really fun battle system with some engaging, cinematic battles.
