I was seriously depressed last night :\

not anymore. this game is exactly what they need, if this gets panned out there again ala FF14, and that looks very possible looking at that so called "trailer", maybe they finally take a hint they are doing a horrible job and some much needed, long overdue change happens over there with certain heads start rolling, maybe.

this video just proving what I've been thinking for a while that they have no idea what they want to do anymore and just throwing shit from other popular games at the wall without any thought and looks like don't even care if it sticks or not...

That's some really optimistic thinking there. I guess it's possible that as a silver lining this could be the game which really shakes up the internal non-MMO development process at S-E Japan, but I'm not so sure. Either way, I really hope they do something about their problems soon. As a fan, it hurts to see them this way. :(

how are the reactions from the other side of the pond?
i see a few 糞ゲ

4) Maybe just a CGI trailer could've been enough.

it might not even be an option if they are making this on the cheap like XIII-2 and only have the opening/ending to splice from

They'll give FF to Level 5.

Final Fantasy AGE here we come.

The game is one year away and we haven't really see anything of it. Give them time. Surely can't be worse than XIII-2 overall, at worse it'll be equal with different implemented ideas.

What really puts me of... is the return of Chocoblina -.-'

I'm sure Square Enix wishes that every fan's brain worked like yours. Unfortunately for them, that's not the case. :(

Kinda too bland, too brown, fucking ugly shades, what were they thinking. Had a certain PS2 feeling for a time, which isn't good at all.

I thought something was wrong with Chrome. I don't remember the last time I saw such a choppy framerate. There is literally nothing good to say about this. Save this franchise from its destruction, FF XVersus

AHAHAHAHA

Vaporware will surely save Square, right.

Looks awesome....

Its the usual Square enix hate crew all jumping on the bandwagon...but thanks for buying the game anyway.

Cant see them not improving the framerate. The other 2 ran perfectly fine.

13-2 ran at 25fps actually but it was your traditional RPG so it was OK.

With LR though...yeah, they need to polish it up or we will be playing a muddy screensaver.

Welcome to squaretown.
Seriously that's a town? Even RPG makers handmade town looked less square and flat....
SE really fucked up everything this gen.

It's sad because Lightning is one of the best characters they came up with in FF but she ended up in shitty games.

So if this game comes out before Versus, what does it really say about the quality? That confirms that the production costs for this one can't be that high, therefore it's not as good as it could be. I don't really care about reusable assets. Throwing out game after game can't be that great anyway. More like milk it till it dies to remember fans that the FFXIII franchise still exists?

I'm surprised you're judging a game by a bad trailer that is more a case of bad uninspired direction than bad because what's in looks bad. I'm pretty sure a trailer about XIII that displayed only Nautilus and battles taking place in it, with half the framerate, could've get the same bad reception. This is a shitty trailer of a game that we don't know yet if it'll be good or not.

Versus might be a little too late to save SE even if it came out today. The damage has been done.

Before we talk about Versus "saving" S-E, maybe we should consider the possibility that Versus is in just as bad a state in every single way, which is why they haven't been able to really show it all these years.

Trailers are released as marketing to get people excited so they can "judge" whether they would be interested in paying attention to said game. If you release a trailer which looks like utter shit, people will judge your product, make fun of it, and lose interest in wanting to play the game or even pay any attention to it.

At this point I think it pretty much is. Even with all of it's hype over the past 6 years, there is a strong chance it still wouldn't "save" them.

Just watched the trailer and uh, does that city look ugly and boring. Reminds me of the one in Bayonetta, only worse.

Of course, on this we agree. Infact I'm mad as hell they released a trailer directed so bad. A full CGI trailer could've been way more impressing when obviously they didn't have much more to show at this point. They were obviously eager to show ingame scenes because the fans demanded it, but the game is still not ready to be shown. And you don't do the game any favor if to it you also add a lack of direction regarding the cut itself. This is an amateurish trailer directed by an amateur.

Call it whatever you want, but don't label users to a certain group just because they have a different opinion than your own. Let's just keep talking about yourself. I'm hope people can still express their feelings about a falling series without being called hater.

Do any notable Square reps frequent GAF?

Just wondering because I would really love for them to see how much this single trailer is getting panned. Sure, I loved FFXIII after the first 15 hours it took to ramp up into the actual game, but I can't forgive them for not moving forward beyond this crappy crystallis series.

Also, does anyone have sales numbers on the original FFXIII and FFXIII-2 by region? I would love to know who exactly are buying these games.

I think given the general output of the company in the last few years, coupled with their embarrassing interviews where they talk about Lightning like she's some sort of actual icon, and now this trailer, it's more logical to surmise that the trailer is representation of the low effort going into this game, rather than some unusual isolated marketing mistake. The problems in Square Enix are systemic, and it seems like nothing is changing anytime soon.

Ok guys. I was one of those people who liked FFXIII a lot but was just disappointed by a lot of things. I also enjoyed XIII-2 but I'm probly never going to play it again. But this right here looks like shit. Seriously. Of all the companies changing their franchises I think Square is the worst. I am super optimistic and I can enjoy a game from a great franchise even if it disappoints a little (RE6) but if this doesn't look better then it does right now it's gonna be the First Final Fantasy I didn't get Day one in a long time. I might skip it just like Raccoon City.

Anyway for all the talk, the lighting in the game actually improved compared to the previous version of the engine. Overall though, except the interaction with the enviroment, the trailer doesn't really do a good job in showing what are the differences from XIII-2's battle system or any significant new feature. Let's hope at E3 they do a better job.

Well my day one bravado at announcement is being humbled by that trailer. WTF is with that framerate. Using the Anvil Next engine as well Squeenix?

Is this the only trilogy that gets worse visually as you advance through the installments? Lightning's model might look better but everything also is pretty shoddy. Most pleasing aspect of the trailer? "This is Lighnings Final Journey." Oh, well the next sequel will probably star hope...

Why is Square Enix obsessed with Lightning?

They're stuck with her game. As mentioned elsewhere, new HD developments at SE are essentially frozen until they've dealt with FF14, so the most the can do is recycle assets from the HD game they do have.

Hey I really liked the music. Framerate was beyond horrible though, nothing going on, not looking particularly good and still bad performance.

Final Fantasy AGE here we come.

Doods made DQ 8 and 9, giving FF to them would SAVE FF like nobody's business.

Age was the end result of Bandai poking their nose in the way the Japanese like to poke their nose into affairs that are not of their concern.

Well I mean it is obvious that the environments were in no way in any shape to be shown. I mean the textures are obviously placeholders and everything is completely flat and during the fight sequences you can see that the buildings aren't even finished. Looks nothing more than a nice character model running around test environments.

Not sure why they would release a trailer like this. That or they simply don't get how to show off a game which also wouldn't surprise me. The same thing kind of happened with Versus the first real trailer they show looked much better but was rough and probably shouldn't have been shown.

I'll hold judgement on this till I see a proper trailer down the road. I mean I liked FFXIII and FFXIII-2 and this game could be interesting but who knows with these guys.

I really do not think Versus 13 is EVER coming out. Didn't they unveil it in 2007? Now we are nearly in 2013. Seriously, that is beyond ridiculous. Most people will probably move on to next generation if it does eventually surface.
