Rumored Chinese Forum Xbox720 specs: 8CoreCPU,8GB,HD8800GPU,W8,640GBHDD

Hmm, why are 'devs' spilling the beans in this thread so much compared to others? Is Durango's coming out party imminent or what? CES does have until Friday. Thanks btw, those rumored specs are delicious.

It's like keeping a secret. Everyone will keep it until one person spills it. Then they will all feel bitter and try to overcome that "I know more than you" scenario.

Set-top box TV channel recording while you play a game is probably going to be the RAM hog responsible alongside a full W8 OS.

Nah, it's all digital broadcast these days, so your box is doing little more than saving files. Piss easy to do with tiny overheads. PS3 can do it in the background already

if it's Windows 8, are we expecting the full desktop OS, or something more like Windows 8 RT?

Notice they say Windows 8 kernel. It will be the same as the current Xbox360 that uses a modified Win2k kernel. There is not going to be Windows 8 on the box, just a kernel derived from Windows 8.

*Sigh* Too much gamer logic.

Specs are awesome... $599! OMG... teh FAILZ! UBER EXPENSIVE.

In reality: Xbox 360 launched with cutting edge hardware for $299.

.

Nextgen will be powerful, and because nobody us using crayz proprietary tech, prices will be affordable.

I'm sure it'll have interface similar to Windows 8. MS is too invested in that Metro interface to not make it a standard. Xbox 8 makes a lot of sense.

Correct. With passthrough to handle some overlays on your normal TV signal as well. My favorite thing will be the passthrough and what they might do with that.

It would only be a natural update since the Xbox 360's interface is already pretty Metro-like.

I think the last quote I saw for edram required for something was actually far smaller than most assume. Somewhere around 300mb(though that is big for edram compared to the 360). I could be wrong but I thought someone on Beyond 3d did a nice calculation.

Well I certainly consider 300 MB of edram a whole lot of edram.

Also, we already know what the "new" logo/icon may look like:

Don't think they'll change it by the time hardware arrives.

I remember when people were saying that next gen consoles didn't need anything more than 2gb ram...4 being overkill.......

I'm a little bit more interested in what the CPU might be like compared to what's out now. Looks like the GPU (if true) is more or less in line with the latest mid-range cards. Still won't stand up to a GTX 680, but still probably a big leap over current gen consoles.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it ran Windows 8 apps.

I think Microsoft will sell the console at a loss and make up for it with software. They've got a lot of media contracts going on today and apparantly their GoD/Arcade sales are pretty good too.

Yeah, far too many seem to think MS has to go on Newegg.com and order all their cpus/ram/video cards lol. You know all their partners are going to give them fantastic deals.. especially AMD. I think they can still launch this console with outstanding power at $399 or less.

I need to find that picture I mocked up of angry birds overlayed onto a tv show background.

Hahahaha.
Please do!

And won't need to stand up to a 680. Not even close.
Same with total ram.

They will for sure. We are in a good spot and they seem to be thinking correctly about a good revision timeline with the parts they seem to be choosing.

Proelite says games won't be downgraded. That must mean that devs, although capable of accessing more, have a theoretical "fixed" target that doesn't correspond to the potential of devkit.

So it doesn't mean anything, bummer.

No, it normally means that all the crap they stuff in the alpha box is needed to brute force what they expect final custom silicon to deliver.

That's good.

Indeed, people think in retail prices, that is the problem

MS both has special deals for its GPUs and does not buy retail either

4GB for gaming is perfect/overkill. I love overkills. 2GB/4GB RAM will be reserved for OS.
It'll really depend on the type of ram they use, and Im hoping they dont need more than 2 gigs for the OS...I cant even believe that is a possibility now lol.

No 'probably' about it.

I have no problem paying 599 for that. But it is ms hardware, so I'll take a wait and see approach. I have every current gen system but I'm not gonna do that next gen. I hope the ps4 can match it at least.

I'm a Nintendo fan but i'm waiting for Sony to get me into buying their console....i don't expect MS to actually have exclusives that i want....

8 Exclusives on Launch*.

Book it!

Half will be XBLA titles, 2 will be disc-based, 2 will be Kinect. Yes, I'm pulling this out of my ass but goddamn 8 is the lucky number here!

And the thing is, these rumor specs are not exactly cutting edge. Yeah, Jaguar cpu is not out yet, but it is small, low powered, and most likely clocked lower too. The ram is most likely ddr3 which is old and isn't particularly fast either.

$599 US dollars.

And a monthly subscription/payment plan for you dirty poors.

You know the most naive thing about these type of posts? Is that the people don't even do the basic research to find out why the ps3 was so expensive in the first place.

I hope you're right. If they can do $399 with something juicy at launch (Forza 5) I'm most likely in right away.

I would expect, and have heard, of a pretty extreme sku split. Neither hampered but 1 ready to handle a ton of storage and so forth and the other just an ok amount.

Oh shit hahahahah!
Bravo man. Bravo. That is great!

Hook this up to a samsung TV with duel 3d and my wife can Angry Bird and I can watch American Chopper.

Which part of "8800 series GPU" makes it in line with the latest mid-range cards?

The gpu is a customised version a la Xenos was back in the day, therefor it is difficult to compare it with other gpu. It is highly capable though..

...at least this is what I heard through the grapevine..

Wrong.

It will be custom silicon, competitive with the best single gpu offerings in the market at time of release.

In reality: Xbox 360 launched with cutting edge hardware for $299.

It was missing a lot of the stuff found in the current Xbox though, for example:

-No HDD
-No WI-FI (Microsoft was selling the add-on separately)
-Wired controller
-No HDMI
-Weak build quality

The next Xbox certainly won't be missing any of those features, so hitting the $299 mark will be very hard to achieve I think. $399 for the cheaper version would be a more realistic figure probably.

It'll probably run on Win 8 RT, and include a boxed version of it's RT Appstore as well.

No HDMI Cable, but it had a HDMI port and the build quality was the same, right?

I'm guessing a $500/$450 SKU launch here. Maybe three SKU's with one at $400. With the way Microsoft is still gouging people with a 7 year old system still prices at $250 or more, I think it's easily $400 plus. They'll bank on people with Live moving over, or doing a 2 year contract for a console.

Wow what a shitty future this may be if so.
