420 million views, he must be fairly rich now doing what he loves.

Who's Mike by the way? I thought he was the guitarist guy who did the intro.

Mike is James' neighbor and friend who helps him with the technical side of the videos. Also appears in quite a few videos of his own, especially lately.

The guitarist guy is Kyle Justin.

Ah thanks. I haven't been keeping up with AVGN. Last time I watched his videos he was just getting his break on GameTrailers. It's nice he's found success.

Youtube wasn't going to let him stay cold for long...they make too much money off what he does.

Wonder what kind of backlash the guy who initiated all this will get...

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
This was found on reddit. I'm not sure what it means. But apparently someone purposely got AVGN's account removed.

Welp, this guy is going to get the fires of Hell rained down upon him. Hope he enjoys his last moments of peace.

Somebody got his channel taken down... because people wanted to pay money for Cheetahmen 2 in actual cart form? What in the flying fuck? Why are there so many immature manbabies in the world, and why do so many of them have access to the grown-up tools and privileges?

Send them to an island with a stick and a tin of baked beans and see how many fight it out amongst themselves over the food.

he has his own website with all his videos, so I am sure he could care less.

Well yeah, he's got his blip.tv account, which I'm sure comprises a lot of his views, but his Youtube channel has nearly 500 million views. It gets a ton of traffic, and that's a lot of Youtube partner money he'd be losing out on if he just let it go. Believe me, he cares.

Whenever anybody popular on YouTube promotes a kickstarter or asks people to donate for some cause, a group of people will always raise hell talking about how it's a scam. A guy named Maximillian posted a video a few weeks ago asking for people to donate to an arcade owner who was in debt because of cancer treatment and losing money with his arcade for several years, and there were idiots in the comments raising hell talking nonsense about scams. It's a strange phenomenon.

Blip site has few comments. Very dry. I know youtube has many shitty people, but feels more alive watching a video and reading people reaction.

Talking about that, there are a lot of old videos being taking down by Youtube and losting years of internet history, because you lost the comments.

So can someone summarize this Cheetahman 2 cart thing for me? Did they get the rights to the game from the owners to reprint it as a "collector's item," or what?

I believe that they're making changes to the system so that the person who gets their video taken down can challenge the takedown fairly easily, at which point the party making the complaint must either file legal papers against the video or remove their complaint.

You have to be fairly aggressive in responding as the false claims are common. If they add up, you'll get terminated.

It sucks, because YT doesn't seem to have any negative consequences for those that make the false claims.

The current owner of Active Enterprises (company that created Action 52/Cheetahmen) started a kickstarter to do an official reprint of the game. He got James, Pat, and a few other folks to do a video promo for the kickstarter.

Idiots freaked out over this for some reason.

When a video gets pulled for being a repost of copyrighted material, the URL should redirect to the legitimate posting of the copyrighted material. Ta-da! 90% better.
Listen to the madman! That would actually be a really useful function, I hope Google developers are reading GAF.

And please remove the ads at the beginning of videos, they're unbearable. Though I'm sure it won't happen (luckily Opera has a Youtube ads-free extension).

I believe it goes like this:

Whoever owns Cheetahmen created a kickstarter to produce Cheetahmen carts. People raised holy hell about James promoting it. It was an obvious money-grab and probably not something I would've promoted if I was in James' shoes, but it wasn't a scam like so many people were claiming. The people who supported the kickstarter got what they were promised.

I know a lot of channels who needed to change their names or create a new channel because of legal nonsense.

OK, cool. Was worried it was a higher-profile version of those sleazy carts where people dumped fan-translations of Japanese games or prototypes and then sold them for a profit on eBay.

A lot of those sleazy carts sold on eBay aren't even sold by the person who made them.

There's lots of people who will put a fan translation or whatever on a cart for you if you're willing to pay a bit for the materials and work involved. What happens is someone will buy or commission one of these, then throw it up on ebay for some crazy amount of money claiming it's a "rare prototype" or some other nonsense.

Most people who make those carts seriously frown on this.

This is pretty much why those who base their business around video content are often cautioned against relying completely upon Youtube. Having your account closed can be disastrous, and it can happen over seemingly inconsequential things.

That's kind of like browsing GAF with an ad-blocker, though, particuarly to partnered channels. What gives you the right to entertain yourself with someone else's hard work while taking away their means of recompense?

People got upset about something that has been going on since the dawn of videogames.

I am pretty sure that is not what doritos gate is all about. But yeah...

Also.. the age and origin of something does not discount someone thinking critically about it.

He's going to get an ol fashion ass whoopin if fans ever get their hands on him. It's one thing to be a hater; it's another to be an internet a-hole. He crossed that line.

I'm going to claw my eyes out if someone posts another irategamer video. Geez, he should invest the YT money in acting lessons or a humor transplant.
