So my guess the game's story line is fucking boring. Then again who is gonna play this game for story?
I have never enjoyed the story in any "stylish action game" I've ever played, all DMCs, Bayonetta, Vanquish, etc.

Although the final boss of Bayonetta was tight as hell.

Smoking something would have only improved my enjoyment of those things.

I can appreciate some of the goofy elements in the DMC franchise, even "DARK SOUL WITH LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT", but the vast majority of it is nonsensical bravado bullshit. Which is fine, you're not wrong for liking it, all those elements not objectively bad. I just don't find them interesting or cool. I like playing Devil May Cry games.

It was always nonsensical but I enjoyed it the same way I enjoy Fast & Furious movies. Yeah, it's not winning any awards but I'm entertained throughout and the ending of each game felt like satisfactory conclusion.

This? No. Give me the baby tears, man.

So what non japanese developed games from capcom ips were good? Bionic Commando Rearmed, Dead Rising 2, thats all I can think of at the moment.

Meh, I think it will still be fun to play.

Devil May Cry has always had shit story lines, shit characters, shit endings, shit cutscenes, and shit dialogue. This game is just par for the course.
DMC3's ending shits all over DmC's ending... and it's basically the same thing.

So far everything I have seen in this game is below DMC3 in terms of the cutscene, writing, voice acting and story. Real talk. Dante is annoying in both games AND both games have their share of embarassing cutscenes here and there but the rest of the cast in DMC3 pulled their weight... not so much in DmC. Plus DmC is essentially a retread of the story of DMC1 and DMC3 which makes it look worse in comparison.

People saying this is par for the course need to realize that THIS is the reason why NT were brought on to the project. They weren't brought on to make a "fun action game" or even a highly complex action game... they were brought on because they were better at writing for Western audiences, better at crafting worlds, characters and a story. If DmC is on par with previous DMC games in terms of the story and characters... then NT has failed in my eyes.

It was supposed to be dumbed down gameplay in favor of improved writing, cutscenes and storytelling. That was the intended tradeoff some of us accepted a long time ago and we didn't even get that.

Par for the course may have been the wrong term to use in regards to DmC. This ending is worse than anything I've seen in the series so far, but my point was that the series hasn't set a high bar for that stuff in the first place.

So am I right in assuming that Trish just doesn't exist in this universe?
Maybe in DmC2 who knows. If she is in the game she would have red hair as Eva has red hair in this. To be honest Trish is a terrible plot device and character.

That's exactly my point. NT were brought in to raise that standard/bar for DMC but they barely even met that standard.

It's like if Capcom were asked to reboot Heavenly Sword and raise the bar on the game play. They come up with their own artstyle for the game and combat system. Turns out the game play is about as good as the previous games and the artstyle/story is way worse. So the whole point of bringing it to Capcom was a futile effort because no aspect of the game was raised in the endeavor.

Eh I disagree, she is the only DMC character outside of Dante that I like.

Still thanks for the info.

Mundus should have actually been Sparda and Limbo should have been a utopian society filled with DMC fans. Donte destroys everything Sparda built and then kills him. Vergil starts crying and shit then they duke it out. As Donte is about to deliver the killing blow he gets run over by Rikishi

The end

Actually Dante from DMC3 is one of my favorite game characters. That game is total camp, and the character is perfect for it. And it's sort of the outlier of the entire series, which feels muted and dull in comparison.

If anything, I can respect NT for trying to go with something more unusual and out there, but I imagine they'll fall short of DMC3... as will most anyone trying to live up to that, really.

I'm not religious, but I think I should be so I can pray this never happens. This experiment has even failed at what Ninja Theory's one single strength in game design is: story.

Shakespeare would enter a violent seizure if he knew a voice actress on this game compared the voice work in DmC to his own work.

It is fine. But it's not DMC-level of greatness or depth. That's what everyone is complaining about; the game is weaker than the previous games.

I guess I see that. It's just the depth in the old games was always way to much for me to even begin to think about. This seems to bring some of the deeper stuff up to the surface and that makes me excited as in the demo I actually used jump cancels.

I guess it makes me a filthy casual and I am the reason for the deconstruction of video games but eh.

Sorry, but I'd rather trust the expert players. It's like trusting casual fans' opinions on how balanced a game is when you have the word of pro to medium players.
Well, the thing is broken for whom?

If an SC2 pro player tells me Zerg is OP, I actually can't make use of that information because that only comes into play at tournament levels of skill, not bronze.

You forgot the part where Donte says fuck you.

I never played Enslaved, but I kind of liked the story and characters of Heavenly Sword (even though it was like 4 hours long).

Don't know how they fucked this up.

The style ranking system is broken for any level of play... even people who mash in the game. Definitely becomes very obvious for even mid/average level players when they get SSS rank despite dying 5 times or they fail to drop in SSS rank despite repeating a couple of moves over and over again or just be playing it "lame".

The other stuff like less timing requirement for enemy step cancels, floaty air combat, hit stop on attacks, lag on weapon switch and disjointed hit boxes on moves is something that effects higher level play although even a casual player can discern the differences if they do a side by side comparison. Most casual level players don't really use enemy step much for combos so they don't really know how much it has changed so I guess it doesn't affect them much.

I'm an i dont give a fuck type of person that just likes to play fun shit, so I say bring it on. White haired stick up his ass Dontay was getting beat anyway. I'm sure all of you cakeeaters would probably be complaining still if Capcom kept the franchise.

I feel like NT was weighed down too much by the lore and characters of the series. They tried to find a balance of catering to the fans with characters like Vergil/Mundus while injecting their own style to the story but it just didn't work out like they intended.

That Italian review that was taken down is basically saying what you are saying now. He liked the story in Enslaved (minus the ending) and was wondering what went wrong here.

Huh? I rate DMC4 in my top 10 games of the Gen, so I really doubt that would be the case so long as Itsuno gave me more hip thrusting Dante and more of his battle system.

Ya, Devil May Cry 4 is easily the game I've completed the most times this generation.

I still like Bayonetta and Vanquish more, though.

I think he had a lot of good points that amounted to more than thread whining, but perhaps a bit overzealous.

So for those in here actually buying the game, where do you guys have it preordered at? I think I'm leaning towards Best Buy at this point, except I hate how they handle pre-order bonuses :(

Stylish action games should just have the character do cool stuff in cutscenes.
What, and not gameplay? Blasphemy!!!
If the game, say, uses some alternative camera mode or take other measures for storytelling sake, fine, but anyone who makes cool action non-playable in an action game that's supposed to be about doing cool stuff, FAIL.

I think that's pretty much all people can think of. Dark Void seems like it could have been good with more polish time, but what got rushed out to market was a pile of pap.

WTF @ the reactions to the ending on other boards.

People on Gamefaqs are acting like this is ME3 ending bad caliber. Jesus christ...

I really don't think it's that bad... or maybe because I was expecting T-Rex Vergil/tears of a thousand baby bad.

Why would you do that to yourself and miss out on Vergil? I'm not getting the game but if I were it would be Gamestop, no question.

Gamefaqs does not contain rational people at the best of times.
