mercury Hg is one of my favourite XBLA games. The presentation is lovely, and stick a custom soundtrack on and it's just absolutely joyous. The most fun comes in shaving milliseconds off your time, but there's enough levels and challenges that it'll last ages even if you're not into that stuff. It's brilliant.

If you liked those games, I wouldn't even bother with demos, just buy them =P

Ahaha yes! That's what I really wanted to hear. I'm going to try the demos anyway (they just finished downloading) but it'll really be just a formality. =p

Any word on Battlebloc theater yet?! Sick of waiting for this game, it's been so long I had to look up what it was called.

There's this dev blog post from last month: http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/2012/12/13/whats-new-in-the-bbt-universe/
This dark and dingy cell is how we have felt recently here at the office. Lots of late nights spent looking out the windows and watching the outside, trapped in a cage of our own emotions. (Okay, it’s not really like that at all. It’s been a lot of fun working on this thing.) In BattleBlock Theater, you and your friend will be playing as prisoners in a theater run by technologically evil cats. You’re not always in this prison cell though, as the majority of your time is spent performing to save your life, your friends life, and possibly the entire world.

Although we won’t have a release date this year, or more specifically before the upcoming Mayan Apocalypse, we are excited to be hitting the home stretch with development of this game. It is indeed very exciting to us and hopefully to you too, but there’s still a lot of things to accomplish before our little baby can be released into the world. As you might already know, or for those who don’t know, there’s many rounds of testing, tweaking and submissions to different departments for review that we have to accomplish before we feel confident with releasing the game.

One small aspect of the submission process is obtaining game ratings, which are always strange and fun to do. You fill out a bunch of paperwork describing the various ways your game has violence, blood, humor, and lots of lots of clowns. After this you are assigned a rating by random acronyms from other countries.

Here’s our current list of ratings for BattleBlock Theater:

ESRB TEEN – Blood and Violence
DJCTQ 10 + V
CERO B 12+
CSRR 15+ Violence
USK 12+
FPB PG + V

Hm! That list looks pretty violent! Trust me – being eaten alive sounds a lot worse on paper. I mean if you’re just watching someone being eaten alive it’s actually pretty funny.

Wait, that sounds bad, too. Well, I’m sure you know what we mean.
What seems to be the box-art:

So it looks like it'll be released this year at least, I'm guessing that it will be released around Spring or Summer.

Ooh the Mechromancer pack is 50% off. I'll definitely be checking that out seeing as I already got the second DLC for free. Winterbottom and Axel and Pixel at 200 MSP has piqued my interest along with The Splatters at 160. Is Axel and Pixel a point and click game ala The Walking Dead?

Also, I wanted to say account, you've been doing an amazing job updating the thread. Thank you and keep up the good work.

It's Swarm at 160, rather than The Splatters. Worth getting though.

Axel and Pixel is a point and click game but Walking Dead is hardly the best thing to compare it to! It's loads of single-screen puzzles, kind of like the start of Machinarium or something.

Whoops. Thanks for the clarification. I'll give the trial a shot but at 160, I have nothing to lose.

Cool. I've never played Machinarium, but I get the idea. I'll play the trial.

EDIT: I bought everything as opposed to trying out the trials first.

It's good, worth full price. If you aren't going to time/score chase then it won't last too long. That's the only downside.
I'll be picking up the DLC if it ever goes on sale.

Thanks guys. I've been offered a lot of points, I will seriously consider it.

any impressions on scarygirl? I've played the demo, but don't feel like it gave me a good enough impression of the gameplay.

has there been any word on what's coming tomorrow?

I'm at the third set of puzzles. Winterbottom is really amazing. Ugh why didn't I get this before?

Are there any other great puzzle games in the vein of Limbo/Braid/Fez?

So far I can say that I truly like the following XBLA puzzle games (and I'm including point-and-clickers):

Limbo
Fez
Braid
Winterbottom
Monkey Island 1
Walking Dead

and I have Axel&Pixel in my backlog which I will be playing after I get the 200/200 in Winterbottom (or just beat it and give up).

There's Pid, but it could be worth waiting for them to patch it because difficulty is all over the place.
Deadlight tries to get that LIMBO vibe but isn't very good.
War of the Worlds similarly, but I haven't played that so much.
Trine 2 has a pretty strong focus on puzzles.
Cloning Clyde similarly

Aside from that, there's not really any more in that kind of style (ie. 2D platformers with a focus on puzzles) but there are a few decent games to check out with strong platforming or puzzling mechanics.

Adventures of Shuggy is more 2D platformer than puzzler, but there's definitely a puzzle vibe in many of its levels.
ilomilo is a puzzle game but in 3D
Lazy Raiders is a 2D puzzle game where you control the world rather than the character.
Portal, obviously
Lucidity, maybe, I haven't actually played that.
Happy Tree Friends is kind of half platformer, half Lemmings.
And there's Vessel which is coming soon and should be ace.

There might be a fair amount of stuff you'd like on XBLIG in this kind of genre.

so no-one bought scarygirl? :(

the demo is good, but I feel it doesn't give me a good enough idea of how the game will play. does it get more challenging or anything?

Released today,

seemingly nothingAtAll.gif

this is disgraceful. they must have a ton of games waiting to be released and they still a week with no releases? :/

Thanks a lot for this post. I actually killed my backlog buying Winterbottom and Axel&Pixel. I already have a lot of other XBLA/other games waiting to be played thanks to the recent sales and releases (Jet Set Radio, Dust, Bully, etc...). I'll tag this post and keep those suggestions in mind for the future.

Is there anyway to get those prices for swarm/scarygirl in Canada? The app isn't available for some reason in Canada for some stupid reason :(

Make a US or UK account and download it. Once downloaded it will work on any regional account.

Try it so we can find out if they really have locked it behind Gold. :D

looking forward to serious sam. do you know what's coming next week?

No idea, Probably fuck all again.

Spartacus Legends has next week on the xbox.com page but it was supposedly delayed until Winter 2013. It's coming to PSN as well and the new season starts January 25th so there would have been some press if it was coming soon.

So, does Microsoft ever let people claim dormant Gamertags? The name I use is pretty consistent for everything except XBL, which has "my" name connected to some account that looks like it was last used, briefly, in 2007 by someone that glommed on to a family account. I check about once every three-six months and it's been a few years now, so I was starting to wonder it was hopeless. : )

I recall them freeing up names from really old dormant accounts what seems around two years ago or so, though I could be way off. But the names they were freeing up seemed to be from around the first years of Xbox Live, not those of only a couple years dormant. So yeah, they do free up old names but I don't think they have any clear way of guessing when a name will be free again for the taking.

Here's one article I Googled up that talks about it: http://www.trueachievements.com/n3151/microsoft-are-deleting-unused-gamertags.htm

Looks like my original Gamertag (Wibblewozzer) that got tied up in their dumb system is now available again? Well, good luck!

Just noticed this on a Reddit AMA with Retro City Rampage developer, when asked about price difference from $14.99 steam to 800 MSP.

The 800 MSP was a mistake and can be considered a sale as well. It's should be 1200 so expect it to go back up to the correct price.
