Injustice: Gods Among Us (NetherRealm, DC fighting, 360,PS3,WiiU) [Up: Screens in OP]

So I was thinking that a potentially great follow up to the upcoming Injustice game (if its successful enough) could be a DC vs Marvel fighter in the same vein. There have been crossovers in the past, and WB is even publishing Lego Marvel Super Heroes.

I think you have a better chance of seeing MK vs Street Fighter than Marvel vs DC.

Shouldn't it be Ant Man vs. the Atom? and Aquaman vs. The Sub-Mariner?

I purposefully left out a few characters that would be redundant, atom and namor are less popular than their counter parts so i left them out. For Green Arrow and Hawkeye I decided both were popular enough to warrant their inclusion.

That's one of my most hated tropes in any medium. Galactus especially seems to suffer from this a lot.
Hell, Darkseid too. He's had times where he was a joke. Some days Green Arrow treats him like a punk, other days he beats up the entire Justice League.

People said the same thing about Mortal Kombat vs DCU and then there was that epic 3 year bump.

I am not saying it can't be done. I am merely saying the odds on Disney and WB coming to an agreement both creatively and financially is going to be slim.

The thing you have to remember about that Lego Marvel game, is that WB has had the rights to publishing Lego titles since before Disney bought Marvel, so it is in a different situation than a straight up Marvel title.

Oh I'm not saying I'm expecting it or that it's even remotely likely. Just that it'd be so awesome.

Thought about it a bit.
Based on everything I've read to this point, I suspect the following roster:

Characters:
1. Power - Superman
2. Power - Wonder Woman
3. Power - Green Lantern
4. Power - Cyborg
5. Power - Shazam
6. Power - Power Girl
7. Gadget - Batman
8. Gadget - Flash
9. Gadget - Nightwing
10. Gadget - Green Arrow
11. Gadget - Black Canary
12. Gadget - Aquaman

13. Power - Lex Luthor
14. Power - Solomon Grundy
15. Power - Bane
16. Power - Sinestro
17. Power - Black Adam
18. Power - Doomsday
19. Gadget - Joker
20. Gadget - Harley Quinn
21. Gadget - Catwoman
22. Gadget - Deathstroke
23. Gadget - Captain Cold
24. Gadget - Circe

Unlockable Characters:
Power - Darkseid
Gadget - Martian Manhunter

DLC Characters (speculation)
Power - Lobo
Power - Hawkgirl
Gadget - Zatanna
Gadget - Blue Beetle

30 Characters in all, similar to MK9...

Sorry to ask a stupid question but I have not been following comics for a very long time. What power does Lex have?

Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter is way more plausible than DC vs Marvel. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if MK vs SF is one of the next-gen megatons.

I'm sure I remember Boon or some other Midway producer saying Kung Lao/Doomsday were planned DLC characters for MKvDC, so I'm sure Doomsday won't be relegated to boss status.

SFxMK is even less likely than ever, what with SFxTK flopping and all.

A pal of mine suggested that for Martian Manhunter's super, he should transform into a Chinese Dragon.

And my response was...

YES. YES. YES! Boon pls.

Tekken isn't MK, and Namco isn't WB.

Whole completely different bit of mindsets/people/variables in play.

Yes, a much more complex set of variables and a pair of games that are far more dissonant than basically any other pair you could imagine (EDIT: within FG circles). Ain't gonna happen.

After seeing DMC get handed off to NT and what happened with RE6 I wouldn't put it past Capcom anymore.

Money talks.

Money from who? Capcom knows from recent experience that crossover concepts that seem like guaranteed money-spinners on paper aren't always such a sure thing in reality, and NRS knows from recent experience that people aren't really interested in a T-rated MK game.

On top of all that, and beyond all the obvious design issues, there are a million other logistical issues that come into play that weren't present when dealing with Namco, SNK or even Marvel/Tatsunoko that just make the entire thing a complete pain in the arse, and on top of all that there's the fact that MK is a complete non-entity in Japan.

I'm not saying it's going to be EASY. But someone, at some point during the next-gen, is going to point out how much money is being left on the table by both Warners AND Capcom, by not combining the two for a single one-shot. And as such, the licensing deal will go through, and either Netherrealms or Capcom is going to go to work blending the two together.

It really isn't THAT hard. Money talks, and the complications in pushing this deal through are WAY less than Warners and Disney coming together to license a fighter featuring Superman fighting Spider-Man.

Again - you're comparing companies that aren't even remotely similar, or do business even remotely similarly. Warner Bros is not Tatsunoko is not Marvel is not SNK. The precedent you're claiming isn't actually precedent because the people in charge at Marvel aren't the people in charge at those other companies at those other times. There isn't a tried and true formula to shit like this. There's money, and the prospect of it made, or left on the table.

Again: what money? These games both do great business individually, but that doesn't mean they're gonna do even better business if they do a crossover--not just because there's a finite audience for these sorts of games, but because the way MK works is antithetical to a lot of what makes SF so well-respected, and vice-versa. If the only determining factor was money then SFvMK would have been made twenty years ago.

Name Recognition/Nostalgia is a motherfucker. Street Fighter IV didn't sell the majority of its millions off people recognizing what a deep, technically sound fighting system it had. It sold because it was Hi-Def, 21st century Street Fighter. Same w/ Mortal Kombat 9.

Do you really think that if MK vs SF is announced for next gen, it's NOT going to do blockbuster business? Drop that shit on an anniversary date. Give it 12 months of press/hype. Tell me that's not going to be huge. The two biggest fighting game series that ever existed, finally coming together? The Mario/Sonic games aren't even GOOD and they're massive sellers.

Injustice here is a pretty good sign that the styles could mesh, besides that. Light/Heavy/Strong/Launcher attacks, hold back to block... Seems like it could mesh REALLY easily with Capcom style fighting mechanisms.

Midway (now Warner/NetherRealm) and Capcom are not the same companies they were 20 years ago, and the business isn't even remotely the same as it was then, either. Opportunities for shit like this are way more wide open than they were back in 1995-2000.

Random bit of info, but I got the Best Buy mag today with the Injustice article in it. They say the cutscenes this time in story mode will have interactive elements. You start as Batman and one example was a button prompt coming up and if you press it in time he'll hit a guy with a batarang and when they fight he'll have less health. Another was using Supes eye beams to hit cars being tossed at you. I don't mind QTEs at all, but I just hope they're done well. The story mode in MK was great and I have high hopes for this one as well.

Cuz seriously, when the colors of Wondy's outfit ACTUALLY MATCH, it's a great outfit.

I don't mind them taking a few liberties with the designs, but I hate that the eagle on Wonder Woman is one headed when it should be two headed.

Why Grundy and not Batman? That doesn't make any sense. Batman was a pretty major character in Red Son.

I'm hoping it's because that's Bats alt outfit (if they even have unlockable outfits).

I read the article from the Best Buy mag and they reveal the story mode is like the MK one, you'll be switching characters and learning more of the different sides of the story.

Its starts with Batman interrogating the Joker about a nuclear bomb that went off in Metropolis and during it Superman shows up and wants to kill the Joker but says he was he was tricked into it. You then flash back to Bats checking on Joker in Arkham and you see in Metropolis several people fighting (Shazam, Sinestro, Aquaman and Doomsday are mentioned here). Bats is attacked by Deathstroke, who is sent by Luthor to take him out. Bats then is on a space station where another epic battle is going on and Luthor cops to the whole scheme as you see on a monitor Joker and Harley planting the bomb. Bats shows up in time to lunge at Joker and it goes into slow-mo and you see other people fighting around you; chapter ends.

....I think I'm going to sit this one out.

Logically, I would assume that Batman is getting an alt from another event, and they lumped Grundy in with Red Son because they don't have much else for him.

It doesn't seem like there going for pin point accuracy as they changed both Superman and WW Red Son costume anyway.

Superman's Cape should be red, and Wonder Woman should look like this.

well has anyone other than Doomsday actually managed to 'kill' Superman? I mean, he's no weakling I don't find it hard to believe he could take on Darkseid.

yes. in JLA #68 before their latest reboot. the JLA travel back in time to rescue Aquaman who has been captured by an ancient "JLA" they are like analogues to the league.
a super-strong alien raised by simple Jewish slaves. a man who uses magic to conjure things out thin air, a warrior woman. a mysterious silent man who knows how to build machines and and so on. being 3,000 years in the past this league has no problems killing their enemies and so when they fight the league the JLA all get killed. it's a really good story.

The Batman costume for this game is doing nothing for me.

What's with all the random silver armour bits?
Its reminding me of the Schumaker movies, ugh.
