I'm all for personal taste, but I've always been baffled by the Musou following. They just straight play like shit. They're like next gen Fighting Forces with licenses thrown on them, and everything about them is cheap and poorly made. I have someone telling me right now that apparently Hokuto No Ken 2 isn't so bad, but I straight don't believe him.

I mean, I can see the appeal in damn near everything from plane simulators, to the idolmaster, to football manager, all sorts of niche stuff, and my tastes are pretty broad as well, but Musou is supposed to be hyper mainstream and it's just straight TERRIBLE. God.

Also, yeah, I watched all of Kabuto, it's the only one I've seen though, but big fan. Which is why I really want this to be a game not made by Koei so it has at least a glimmers hope of being not garbage.

If you don't like Musou thats cool. Tons of us do though and even if you don't understand it at least respect that its a big deal when a new one comes out to those who like the game series. The point of gaming is to have fun so why get upset that some folks enjoy things you dont?

Chill out. If you didn't get what you were after it happens. But yelling at people because they don't enjoy what you like and bashing on a game series and saying its terrible when its fanbase is big enough to say that it must be doing something right is silly. You don't have to like it yourself, but that wont stop me from enjoying the ever loving hell out of musou games. ESPECIALLY those licensed to my favorite things.

I can't wait to tear through tons of mooks, fight generals like Apollo Geist and use Rider Bikes for mounts in stages set across the various Rider shows.

Since we are discussing Musou, how does Warriors Orochi and Hokuto Musou stack up with each other? Ergo what's more fun?

They said popular. Not niche visual novel generic turnbased system high school musical roleplaying games with a light dark tone of setting.

I kid

Not really

Don't you have a fan translation to work on? You're disrupting the discussion of high school RPGs that actually get localized.
:p

Last time I checked, Basara turned out OK. Arguably even better than Musou. Obviously not all the clones can be just as good or better but it's possible.

Namco's last attempt at doing their own Musou-esque game with a Toku license ended up being Super Sentai Battle Ranger Cross, so take that as you will.

To give you an idea on what went wrong with Hokuto Musou. Consider this:

Hokuto is a franchise about a dudes that are able to waste large numbers of grunts in single attacks fighting each other.

Musou is a franchise about dudes that are able to waste large numbers of grunts in single attacks fighting each other.

Hokuto Musou screws up dudes wasting large number of grunts in single attacks, something that both of its parent properties have in common.

Kivala was certainly a joke (at least her finisher was)

Also, my real disappointment: all these hype train images and no DenLiner?! what's up TokuGAF?!

Funny I counted Kivaara as the least jokey Rider. Then again yeah the finisher is like NO.

I LOVED Warriors Orochi. More so than the main games when it first came out.

Hey, I'm not yelling at anybody. It's more like I'm yelling into the void because the big scoop wasn't Persona 5. Also, cmon now, popularity is no basis of quality. And obviously I can't stop you from enjoying this, nor the final release, and nor I would wish to. I suppose most of my frustration comes from my total inability to understand the appeal. Not share the appeal, but merely to understand it from any angle. Is all it is the novelty of slashing up hundreds of soldiers a battle? Because that's as far as I can seem to manage.

Gundam Muso 3, all other Muso's are lame compared to it.

Seriosly though, I found Ken's Rage to be boring so WO in my opinion.

Well Warriors Orochi was the only one I really enjoyed.

Benkei might have something to do with that but whatever.

I kinda hate Gundam with a passion so yeah. Not so much Gundam in general just the lackluster Mech designs.

I like the Orochi games more if only because the normal characters fight like they do in the normal games and there are very few action games that uses the stories of Fengshen Yanyi.

Most Musou fans agree that Warriors Orochi 3 is the ultimate bestest Musou game, like, ever. Tons of fan service. Tons of characters. Square-square-triangle, bitches.

Hokuto Musou is the black sheep of the Musou family. It doesn't play like any of the other ones. The drum beats slower, so the rhythm required is difficult to learn. Once the game clicks though, it's amazing. I hated it at first and had actually finished the story mode before I realized how to play, but then, it became my favorite one. I would only recommend it to HUGE Musou and/or Hokuto no Ken fans, as it really is a steep learning curve.

Dynasty Warriors 7 is probably the best introduction to the series, if you've never played a Musou game before.

I know im late but there is a possible chance that i am going to have den-o in a musou game. Can my musou be called climax jump......

Onlu thing better would be super sentai musou..... * imagines gaoranger theme song being played while slaughtering thousand and rocking gaogod against bandora.....

Hey man, you clearly seem to know what you're talking about. Maybe you can give me a leg up on this. Can you toss me to a video of say, Hokuto Musou being played properly? The way that you seem to enjoy it the most? I'm desperate for knowledge here, it's driving me crazy.

I wouldn't even recommend it to huge fans of both franchises, since it'll just be all the more painful at how awfully realized what should have been such an obvious combination ended up being.

I don't know if you saw my post on the previous page, but:

Well, from playing the demo, I can tell you that Hokuto 2 does address a lot of the major complaints you guys had about the first game, namely the sluggish controls and overall slowness of the game. However, they took out jumping for some insane reason, so I don't know...even I'm a bit baffled by that decision.

I guess the appeal of Musou, for me at least, is the "one man army" aspect of it. I like mowing down hundreds of nameless enemy mooks with impressive looking special moves and shit. It's not DMC or Bayonetta, but it serves a specific purpose and does it well enough. And there's the whole leveling aspect, as well. Working towards making your favorite character ridiculously powerful so you can do what you've been doing for the past 100 hours faster and faster. :lol It's shallow as hell, yes, but sometimes it's good to take a break from Dark Souls or Vanquish and play something a bit more mindless. And really, saying it's mindless isn't exactly true, since there's a lot of hidden depth to the games (just look at any Koei-specific forum and see some of the combat strategies/combos some people come up with...some of that stuff is too much even for me).

But yeah, I ain't tryin' to make you a fan or anything (I've already been through this whole spiel with Matt too, :lol). Just explaining my take on the whole thing.

Cool to know you like Kabuto, too. If you get some time, check out Kamen Rider W. I watched it recently, and it completely eclipsed Kabuto and Blade as my favorite Rider series. So good.

...god, and now I'm realizing that quoting my own post like this feels scrubby as fuck. =/

Oh god, please don't let this be from the same developer as that Saint Seiya musou clone. Pleasepleasepleaseplease. =/

There you go. People complain about how bad Omega Force is. Have they ever played a knockoff? Try Ninety Nine Nights or a DIMPS game sometime.

Absolutely did not see this post, and appreciate it. You're not really championing your own horse here by calling it mindless fun, but I suppose I get it. Personally I disagree vehemently, it's never time to take a break from Dark Souls/DMC/Bayo/Vanquish levels of complexity, but to each their own though. To be fair though, you kind of make it sound like it's just character action for lazy/scrubby people.

It's quantity over quality. No one's trying to brag about their Cao Cao combo.

That is a good way to put it, I suppose. I mean, I beat Bayonetta, loved every minute of it, so I don't consider myself THAT lazy/scrubby, but I never got to the point where I got all dedicated to it and really started learning more of the advanced stuff/platinum medal'd all the stages, hell I don't think I completed most of the Alfheim challenges. But I still loved it. And I think that Musou scratches that same itch that Bayo did for me, but requires much less investment to really enjoy. And sometimes I guess I just need something like that as a break from Monster Hunter and Bayo and such. Some people don't, and that's cool, but personally I can't go from complex game to complex game without getting a bit burned out after a while, y'know? Or to put it another way, Musou games are like a delicious but unhealthy snack between bigger meals. Or something. That probably sounded better in my head.

EDIT: Also, now I'm in the same boat as you regarding this game. :lol You're afraid it's going to be a Koei game and therefore shitty, and I'm afraid it's going to be a Dimps game and therefore be even more shitty. :lol

Oh man, I love Kamen Rider, but I hate the Musou games with all my heart, I think they're terrible, but I really like what Omega Force did with One Piece Kaizoku Musou. That game was cool. That's why I'm not judging this yet (if it is developed by OF anyway).

Now a Kamen Rider Basara (I know, I know, but you get the point) would be something really awesome. Basara is so good.

I think it was Dimps, wasn't it? That game was so bad lol

Ah, I see. I beat everything in that game save for the Lost Chapters. Non Stop Infinite Climax, Rodin, etc.

Heh, I would have guessed that from your Bayo 2 hype anyway. :lol

Anyway, thanks for the debate. I always like having the chance to kinda defend my stance on Musou games. Also it's always good when "arguments" on GAF don't end with someone being banned. :lol

Not enough people wanted to put their guns on, apparently. ;___;

It didn't help that Capcom didn't really advertise SB3/SH at all in the West. Then when it didn't sell well, they acted all surprised. Now the West will never get that delicious Utage content.

Like I said before, it's something special when we can say Capcom was able to effectively botch BASARA twice in the West. Remember "Devil Kings"?
