PG should remove that "no damage" score bonus in encounters, if only for my actual mental health. Getting 6000 points in some of the encounters in the demo is just bullshit. It's just so fucking cheap. Thank you you piece of shit soldier for shooting me from miles off screen with your fucking machine gun while I try to this little blade mode combo here, shaving 0.1% from my health and denying me the bonus. And thanks to whoever designed the garbage auto lock on in this game, I totally wanted to hit those enemies that are 10 miles away from me instead of this fucking Gekko standing besides me. GodfuckingDAMNIT. And let's not forget that because of the strict time bonuses and the limb bonuses you need the enemies to attack in a precise pattern when combat starts otherwise you're fucked. Yes, cocksuckers, keep on endlessly throwing grenades instead of attacking me so I can parry your ass. In terms of score attack this game is fucking fucked as far as I'm concerned.

I've noticed that tag-quoting Jett is pretty much always bullshit.

He's neither uniformly negative, nor is he the only poster who expresses negative opinions. Even if people are just joking when they do it, it reinforces an inaccurate schema about him which is probably irritating to him and adds nothing for anyone else.

I just don't need your wind justification. It's silly. If you want to do that why not make a vacuum effect and draw in the enemies.

Hitboxes should be in service of gameplay, even if it means that some stuff ends up looking wonky.

I know in Anarchy Reigns that grab ranges have way longer reach than they give away and it looks really, really weird. Almost like a teleport. Took me a while to figure out that was just how the game operated rather than any actual lag.

This is flaoting around. It seems like that's the entire game. Granted, the 59 deaths thing is, uh...weird as fuck, but otherwise, it seems to check out. The achievements for Rising have 8 "acts" or "chapters" or whatever you want to call them and this is showing 8 grades with an overall grade at the end.

The extra hour and a half is probably the cutscenes.
I'm ok with this.

I don't mind a 5 hour game. This could be a good way to cut filler, dev costs and time. It won't overstay it's welcome. A game that short would entice me to start over and play through it again, which I never do.

I've already spent at least that much time in the demo alone, so I don't mind. Also those rankings. It seems like they tried to rush through it pretty quickly anyways.

Im glad enemies as you progress don't die so easily from normal combos. In the demo they would die so quickly, just to be on the safe side Im gonna start on hard so I can combo mad and not worry about quick deaths, after all that's what Zan Datsu is for.

Tag-quoting is just shit posting, though. Same as calling out someone for being a junior, as if that has any actual correlation to posting quality. Once in a great while, someone with a brand new account doesn't understand they aren't on Gametrailers forum (or wherever) anymore and posts something stupid and suddenly all juniors are dumb. Tag-quoting and calling people junior is just a way to try to invalidate someone without actually saying anything of merit.

That's why I think damage is an optional bonus and not a base requirement for rank like in bayo.

Sometimes you just get hit by shit you can't do anything about.

It's weird that Rising is 1/8 of 4's lenght, but it's ok if the gameplay is solid.
The supposedly review score that leaked some time ago is shiny though.

Well calling someone a junior is mostly just to degrade the poster which I wholly disagree with. Tag-quoting though can be done in a joking manner. It's the intent more-so than anything.

Welp, finally got 6000 on the BladeWolf. I'm done with the demo at last. I'm definitely never attempting a "perfect run" of this sort on the actual game, I believe it would take me forever. :p

Protip: The Gekko also has a machine gun. Protip #2: soldiers will shoot you whether or not there's a Gekko around. Protip #3 A group of soliders are a general pain in the fucking ass when you're attempting to not get hit ever while zandatsuing all of them AND getting perfect limb cutting on them, which is what I was trying to do to get BP points. Protip #4: You can't do that with the pussy-ass slide->blademode move, which I know is the easiest way to kill the walking medkits. Protip #5: Try to understand what I was saying next time.

Yep. I'll content myself with S ranking the game. PG are even nice enough to only make 4000 points be the requirement for S rank in boss battles. :p
 
Dodging machine gun fire from one gecko is far easier, than 4-5 foot soldiers. But seriously, never really had a problem not getting hit. Sliding is very helpful. To stunlock certain enemies, it's all about crowd control.

A poster on GameFAQs said he picked up the recent Games TM issue, and MGR got a 9.
Supposed quotes from the mag article are that it's around 6-8 hours long, and it's “almost certainly the best Metal Gear game released this generation.” lol, not an MGS4 fan, I guess.

Wish we had more substantial info...

Yeah, that's fair. Jokes are fine. I just notice it happens to Jett pretty frequently and it's unclear whether it's always a joke. I usually read it as a genuine dismissal but I could be wrong; I have no way to know for sure. Given how people react to disagreement on the internet (and GAF is no exception) it's not a stretch to assume it's often meant to trivialize a negative opinion.

It is interesting that people keep saying this, but I believe that the cutscenes should be separated from the gameplay.

Assuming that this Rising time does NOT include cutscenes, it is very comparable. In fact, the Big Boss emblem (and many others) in MGS4 requires a completion time of under 5 hours.

Honestly, a 5-hour game seems a bit on the short side, and would usually be something that would give me pause. But this is Metal Gear, so I'm buying it regardless. Especially after that spectacular demo.

yeah that pic was originally posted on my website by a friend and its real. According to him the game is short but not in a bad way at all. He is an RPG game lover and not an action game fan but still loved the game. we discussed it on our podcast this week if your interested. Hope that helps.

Yep. I loved something like Alice Madness Returns, but it was so repetitive and too long for what it was that I gave up on it and never finished. Everything doesn't have to be a stretched experience to justify a purchase.

About to post some important tweets, so please pay attention. It seems someone posted their MGR results screen and that people (mainly in the West) are shocked it says the clear time is 5.5hr. Here's the truth: First of all, cutscenes ARE NOT INCLUDED in that counter. Next: For every chapter you play in the game, it ONLY COUNTS YOUR FASTEST TIME. It doesn't track your total play time. What that means is if you replay a chapter for 10 hours, but you finally clear it in a time of 10 mins. Only 10 mins will be counted. So please don't get fixated on that end screen Clear Time being total game time because it is not. We came up with this clear time counting system as a way to fairly evaluate players. It hasn't changed since Bayonetta. However, I will say it is really disappointing that people try to use a single screen in the game to try and create negative buzz.

Right, there we go. So if you don't die at all and watch no cutscenes, you get five and a half hours of speed running. Sounds like 7-8 is gonna be the actual count if not more with all the VR and secret stuff.

Vanquish was 5 hours. Vanquish is the best 3rd person shooter this generation has produced. I really don't mind a "5 hours" story mode when you're meant to replay it over and over again and you have VR Missions on top.

The 5-7 hour play time is just fine with me. If it was 16 hours, like the Spanish preview claimed, I would've been a bit apprehensive about replaying such a lengthy game. The lower play time is more conducive to upper difficulty replays.

That was expected. I don't see why anyone that has played past P* games could think otherwise. I think what they should do with their next game is include 2 counters: a "total time spent on the game" that's linked to your save (like DMC4's timer for example), and another counter that works like the one they have now, that is linked to the current playthrough. That way they wouldn't have to deal with bullshit like this pre-release.

Also, it sounds like the game will have a length that's on par with the average for action games actually.
