Hey how is life on the front lines of the console wars? Seems like you're deep in the trenches there.
Personally, I'd prefer they use the Gaikai stuff for PS3/PSN backwards compatibility. Though we'd probably end up with another UMD->Vita mess (unless they decide to actually give a shit on a global level for once!).

That's what this sounds like. Why of all times would Kotaku post something like this the day before the actual press conference instead of as soon as they possibly got the info? To make things worse, people are taking what's being said in the rumor as gospel and already losing their minds. Tomorrow night can't come fast enough.

dowload demos on time.
access the priviledge to pay for shit.
Like XBLGold does, i'll still be getting the console (like i picked up the 360) but i'll wait for a price drop and in general it'll be a much harder sell against the Durango, than it would've been otherwise.

Price is clearly not decided at this point and if it's just about prices being considered... no one considers a price ending with 29$. It goes totally against the concept of psychological barrier.
Isn't 429$ the direct conversion of the 40.000 yen price that Nikkei speculated? ... That could tell a lot about this article

Well that's out of the question. I can only see HDDs being the differentiating factor between the 2. Only way it can have that price difference is if they are actually using SSDs. There were a few rumors saying that, right?

That is more what it sounds like. Basically an expanded PS+ with Gakai and everything. I don't like the sound of a $500 + price point, though. But it is Kotaku. Its also the day before the announcement so it could very well be them whoring for hits.

A $529 sku is not going to sell. If Sony is dumb enough to put one out, they better justify it by including full BC with every playstation game.
I'm not excusing it. If they tack online gaming on to the already $50 PS+ price then it's not affecting me because I already pay that now. It's common sense, stop losing your shit to rumors. From Kotaku of all places.

Shit, if they stream the backwards compatibility, they are virtually certain to require a Playstation World sub for BC.
Note that most of the PS4's online features will be a premium subscription. Which means they're not touching stuff you already get with the PS3 for free.
I very much doubt that Sony's going to put basic online play and apps like Netflix behind a paywall like Microsoft. They're going to put voice chat, spectate other players, automatic firmware updates, cloud storage, streaming for BC, etc features behind a paywall, which will be PS+ as usual. Since it will actually offer value instead of being a ripoff, we're all going to subscribe to it.
I also see two price points: $429 and $499. They definitely won't go over FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. The $429 version will see a price cut in 2014 to $399 once the initial buzz dies off.

Most people are considered with MP, not all the extra useless shit. On XBL you can't even watch Netflix without paying for XBL Gold. On the PS3, I can play any game online free and access any online service free.
That's the big difference.
