Downloading ZombiU (demo) and The Cave (demo) now. The GF And I just got done with a 2 hour session of NSMBU which was a really good time. We still haven't beaten it yet, some of the levels are pretty difficult when trying to jump around with 2 people.

cool stuff, it's definitely a cool console for couples. It's sad really that Rayman got delayed but hopefully Pikmin will have some nice coop too.

I played The Cave demo, and I think I would have preferred buying The Cave over Trine 2. Trine 2 is absolutely beautiful, but I'm just not a fan of the physics-based gameplay. I don't really like the ragdoll physics, either. I prefer the puzzles of The Cave (from what I've played of it). However, I'm holding off on purchasing it because I felt like Trine 2 was a bit of a waste. I'd at least want to beat Trine 2 first. I rarely buy more than one game in a short time frame, and I've never really had a backlog. I don't think I want to start now.

The official thread was pretty small for a major release like that, and anytime we talk about sales people write it off as a given that it wouldn't be able to push hardware, something that no one here would've dared say before it was released.

It was the wrong game to launch the system with, the hardcores (myself included) tend to prefer 3d mario so that probably wouldve been a better choice, it will however sell tjroughout the life of the wii u and will surely push hardware when the wii u price comes down a bit, but as a 2d platformer it is amazing, far far better than all the other nsmb games and arguably the best 2d platformer ever

I suppose the official thread suffered from the Wii u launch as all nsmbu owners also were new Wii u owners and thus had lots of other threads to post in

You know, I can't hate the system. I know that eventually, Nintendo will get it's act together and convince some of the third party devs to release games for the system. Worse case scenario? We get some amazing 1st party stuff that takes a while to get.

The thing that I'm having trouble reconciling is that this is the buggiest system I've ever owned. EVER.

I've been through two 360's, and i get that the RROD was a big deal. Never had a problem with any PS3. Had a PS1 that skipped from wear and tear.

I've had an incredible amount of system hard freezes. Every day I turn on the system, SOMETHING will hard freeze forcing me to unplug the power cable. It's actually incredibly annoying.

Gave up on movie watching on the system.

I bought an ethernet adapter and hardwire the nintendo whenever I want to download games now.

Through terribly grueling trial and error, I've learned that, even hard-wired, depending on if the Nintendo is near a power supply or if it's plugged into a power strip with too many devices, you'll get hiccups that can GREATLY increase your download time.

Oh, and also, disconnect the USB hard drive, too. That can affect system freezing! Had to learn that the hard way, even though I bought one of the recommended Seagate 1TB Expansion HD directly from Nintendo's website. Yes, it has it's own power.

So even through all that, try transferring data! For no good reason, the wii u will freeze during data transfer! I tried transferring Darksiders II to my brand new drive and after checking back 3 hours later, I realized that it froze mid process. Had to unplug and start over.

It's to the point where I feel lucky to get a game in without freezing. Totally regret buying day one purchase, even though I love the system.

People want something at least somewhat new. Same aesthetics, same music, same platforming physics (that are not as tight as SMB3/W). The game is pretty fun with some cool level design, but it's the 4th game, new platform or not, that feels exactly the same. I understand there are tons of new levels and new power-ups (Squirrel Mario is awesome), but they need to un-stagnate 2D Mario. Shouldn't be very hard either, I have faith they are perfectly capable of it.

I just tried it and I get 106-0502. I usually get other errors too though. Support.Nintendo doesn't seem to recognize them.

I also tried changing the channel in my router, doesn't seem to do a thing :c

Did you try what I mentioned in the last post? If that doesn't work I would recommend you to check this thread. :)

EvilMario

Will QA for food.
Are you counting drawing pictures on Miiverse as "playing"?

Sure. If the console is serving a purpose, it has more value to me. MiiVerse, Netflix, etc, all matter to me. I play way more blurays on my PS3 than I do games, and it's really valuable to me because of that.

anyone own a retail disc version of a game, play it and later downloaded a digital version of the same game just to not use the disc anymore?

does your save file just carry over? I really need to know this

That's really abnormal. I've only had two locks ever, 1 in ZombiU and 1 in I think COD. I have my U plugged into a power strip that also has my PS3, gamepad charger, two laptops, air purifier and another fully loaded 8 plug power strip plugged in, and I'm not having the issues you're having. I do have my system upright rather than flat, not sure if that makes a difference. But I'd recommend seeing if you can send it in and get a new system.

Been puttin' in massive time into Batman: AC AA over this weekend and little things like going into the Nintendo Store and downloading things while my game is still open really makes me happy. There's so much right with this system, if they just tweak the loading/UI (which is on the way) it'll be fantastic.

Trine 2 bored me to tears.

I really liked The Cave.

Yeah, my unit is standing upright too. I might have to take your advice and send in the system. I REALLY hate the idea of sending electronics to the manufacturer over going back to the store of purchase. This will be a first.

Nintendo has had a flawless track record with me starting from the NES. Other than occasionally blowing on a cartridge, Nintendo always meant quality.

Talk about uncharted territories.

Did you play Trine 2 for long? I felt it was weird at first and wasn't jiving with the physics, but after a while I really started to enjoy it.

anyone help?

I need to know... how this works if you have both Digital and Retail copy on a Wii U what happens to the save file?

Well, considering that the save data is saved on the system and not in the game itself, it would require more work for the devs to make it NOT work... just saying...

It shouldn't be any different that placing a different copy of the same game in the disc drive. The DD saved games aren't segregated as far as I know, and why would they be?

and don't say 'because Nintendo'

I played it for ample time. I tried to like it, I really did. I thought I would enjoy the combat and upgrades, but it just doesn't resonate with me. I'm not even sure if I was solving those puzzles the way the developers intended; I felt like I was just trying crazy stuff with the ragdoll physics until something worked.

I want to try The Cave, but I honestly hate knowing that I wasted money on something that I didn't see to completion. As you can probably tell, I'm rather stingy with my money. I think I might force myself to finish Trine 2 before I let myself buy another eShop game.

I really don't like many of the gameplay mechanics in Trine 2... The game is gorgeous, but puzzles and fighting are very lame in comparison. The Cave on the other hand has completely different (and better) puzzles, you don't have to worry about fighting or dying, and the game is actually quite funny.

My landlord replaced the router for no reason, and now my Wii U disconnects every other second. Miiverse, the browser, and the eShop are now pretty much pointless. I had a similar issue with the other router at first but i fixed it by changing the channel (it was never this bad though).

Hopefully doing that will work this time too.

I just jumped in, with the ZombiU bundle :-D

I'm using the Wii U for streaming content needs (netflix, amazon) and of course gaming (with the wife bonus).

Is it just me or ZombieU a little choppy in the beginning? or is it my Wii U?

Any game recommendations? I have ZombiU and nintendoland.

Can't say I've noticed any choppiness, but it may be because I'm running it from a HDD.

I have the digital game and I get some after starting a game before you wake up. Not a big deal and then not single problem in the actual game.

Well NSMBU is great, Sonic and Sega All Stars is cheap and great if you like racers.
Nano Assault Neo if you like a quick fix, arcade game.
Trine 2 is cool if you don't have it for other consoles.
Will get Black Ops 2 soon.

Just curious has someone identified the game breaking bugs and what is needed to avoid them in ZombiU. I am really afraid of getting into one of those and have to start again.

Depends on what other consoles you have.

AC3, BlopsII, Tekken, and Sonic are all great ports and all of them worth buying (if you're into those genres)

Darksiders II and Batman are adequate ports that are probably best experienced elsewhere. I just beat the wii u version of Batman and while there's nothing game ruining, the framerate is probably better on either PS3 or 360.

As for exclusives, Scribblenauts, Nintendoland, Ninja Gaiden 3:RE (not exclusive for long!), and NSMBU are all pretty darn good.

There's some cool stuff on eshop as well. Trine 2, Puddle, Mighty Switch Force, Nano Assault, they're all worth playing.

Well, I've just bought Balloon fight for 0.30€ and I didn't know the game was that fun. I know it's a NES game and not a WiiU one, but I'm enjoying it

Balloon Fight (0.30€ it's an incredible deal, I feel a bit like I'm a WiiU ambassador)

My brother and I were pretty obsesed with this game as kids. I remeber we lost it when we moved towns around 1st grade. 1987 or so?
and we had to rebuy it. the only game I remeber we ever felt like rebuying. Or at least begged are parents.

anyways I also feel like this 30 year cent anniversery VC trail thing is a secret Ambassador program, that they dont want to admit too.

if you are downloading somethin in the background some games will run a little framey. Next time you encounter it, go to the home menu and then the check the download screen

I'm sitting here next to my wife watching her play Batman and out of nowhere she says I love the Wii U... I was like oh ya let me share with gaf.....lol

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
I am super satisfied with the internet broser. I use it every night and its mostly replaced my ipad. But, unfortunately Nintendo doesn't make money off the browser. :(

I like how when browsing GAF there is a banner at the top of the page labelling the title of the thread you're in.

I think I'm getting a Wii U for my birfday next week. Keeping my fingers crossed that my non gaming wife has picked up on the clues, which has consisted of me saying how I would really like a Wii U for my birfday.

Don't own a Wii U yet, but reporting in to say I was freakin' shocked by how good I thought NSMBU's graphics were. Finally played it at Gamestop, and I was so surprised. I've seen gameplay videos of course, but it's so much better in person. Made me want to pick one up right away, haha. Don't have the cash, though, so I'm waiting for this fall..hoping for a price drop/deals and Mario U, Mario Kart, and/or Smash Bros.

Yup I just grabbed the game and it does look gorgeous compared to the wii version (from what I've seen of it). The world feels much more colorful!

Oh man, I was sitting in the lab at school talking to a buddy of mine about how I wanted a Wii U. All he said was "it looked so dumb", but after a couple minutes of talking about it, I learned he thought the Wii U was an add-on. I've never seen so much brand confusion. :( The second he learned it was a new console, his interest peeked 100 fold. It's sad, but Nintendo really should have opted for a new name or called it Wii 2.
