Sorry, must have just read past that, been used to posting in the High Res thread.

Great shot and Avatar.

I'd advise, though that you try the different types of Bicubic. I find the sharpen one makes Aliasing more evident, so I stay away from it, but plenty of others here seem to use it so I guess it may just be me...

Yes, the rules need ironing out. On the hud issue, there may be some games where you can't even mod it out so that shouldn't discount them from being admitted.

This thread. Godwin's Law. They will be acquainted.

I've nicely told two people through PMs already so they wouldn't get called out or have their heads bitten off, they seemed appreciative and edited accordingly.

Ditto on the shots and avatar, PlanetSide 2 in particular. It's a shame, I find that game being either hit or miss, the large landscape shots can be absolutely amazing, shame textures are fairly weak.

As for sharpen methods, I agree that Bicubic Sharpen does expose aliasing more easily, absolutely. I tested quite a few before posting, the smoother, normal and even the IrfranView resample sharpen.

The IrfranView sharpen was by far, in my opinion, the worst. It sharpened way too much, and made it seem like things were aliased even though they aren't in the original screenshot. Bicubic Smoother, in relation to the screenshot I posted, was a slight sharpen however when I was comparing it to the sharpen, there was a noticeable image quality difference. Not major, but when striving to get the highest quality... if there was noticeable aliasing however in the original shot (I didn't notice any in my screenshot, there's a couple of areas where it sort of looks like it, but it's caused by the wind blowing the foliage everywhere), I'd definitely use smoother.

Corky/Sethos: Here are some rules that may seem strict but they're here to help avoid some of the constant *shit* we see in the PC SS thread, hope you guys can follow them! =)

People: RULES? loldidntread.gif #YOLO

Anyway.

I'm not sure how many seconds per frame it was running but it was mostly start the cinematic > hit record on fraps > hope I get the shot I wanted in the very abbreviated slideshow.

Ah, yeah, whenever I'm unsure I use each type and Ctrl+Alt+Z tosee what impact it makes and I suppose it's kind of different for different scenes. Those PS2 shots mostly use Bicubic default, but usually with a game like HL2 I'll use Smoother. I agree about PS2 textures, some of them are marvelous, but some are obviously optimized to hell. Hopefully in the coming Year(s) they'll be able to get their engine a bit better performance-wise, and will be able to get some more uniformly nice looking textures...

Not to be too critical, but this shot seems busy. Might retake it without the body/boxes/grate open.

That hand is really great though. If it was taken to create a tunnel-like effect with the hand as its center, I'd imagine it would be both freaky and fantastic.

This area was used to great effect in the original.

This is probably a dumb question, but what is a good screencap solution other than Fraps or MSi Afterburner? Fraps rapes performance and MSi is unreliable.

Not being familiar with screenshot thread etiquette I didn't realise it was such a big deal. Always fun learning things about the more niche sides of GAF!

That said, my reaction still stands, no need to be so over the top in response to those failing to follow the rules.

Not reading the OP is a bannable offense. But as it's just a silly rule, be sure to tell Bish.

Because this is supposed to be the anal retentive version of the High-Res thread with some very specific rules. They are fairly simple and straight forward, yet people don't even bother reading them and just post - It's disrespectful and annoying.

Why am I seeing huds? Is reading fucking hard?

"No HUD: As we're here to behold the beauty of games, we require HUD-less screenshots or screenshots with minimal on-screen effects outside the game itself. Some games feature non-intrusive minimal HUDs which we also allow, however you should still strive to remove even that if possible."

Those huds I'm seeing aren't minimal. It's like people are just so excited to take a dump and they can't hold it in.

Hey guys, maybe we should try not taking pictures of video games so seriously?

Some games it's real tough to get rid of the HUD without resorting to photoshop.

It's better to get an example of a game with a HUD than never have the chance to see one.

Dude there are rules, it's pretty straight forward. If you don't want to follow them, then go post in the other thread. I don't even know why this is a discussion.

Really feel that this shot describes movement in the game very well.
Unfortunate that 16:10 is not supported.

please more of 7680x4320

If only more games supported downsampling via their internal renderers...
Currently you're lucky if you're not hardware constrained to sub 4k res

Perhaps I'll see what happens when I set Planetside 2 to a 10k+ res tonight

This thread is why I won't be buying a next-gen console until 2-3 years after launch when there are a few exclusives I want to play.

It's Stallion Free. He's always like that. Best to just ignore it.

Doesn't take away from the fact he's 100% right. In the PC screenshot thread, people bitched galore about "bullshots" and nonplayable settings, some suggesting a new thread dedicated to such. So we now have a thread specifically about bullshots and non playable settings and people post their regular screenshots....it's a lose lose. And really it's not like this thread is 90 pages long, and it's not like GAF members lack reading comprehension.

I've started using SweetFX to take screenshots. Even if you have all the effects turned off (I either have SMAA or nothing at all) it will still let you hit print screen and save a bitmap to the folder with the game's exe.
