Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 |OT| Go Ninja Go Ninja Go

I thought Deidara would be the character that most people would play online. Granted I haven't played UNS3, but I'm sure he'd be similar to how he played in Generations. His keepaway game is amazing and totally makes other styles useless.

LOL at this game. I wonder how it'll do in sales...

Probably as well as the others. It'll get Naruto fans easy, they were a known commotity. The problem is getting ANYONE ELSE, which is why I keep complaining about how bad the multiplayer is. It needs to be better to catch people who aren't simply interested in Naruto as a series.

So there's a local video game event that I go to on Tuesdays at a local bar and someone brought Naruto Storm 3 last night. The people who knew the score could laugh at it and chain together naruto quotes and laugh at how awesome (the first time) flashback finishers are. Then some people who didn't know anything about Naruto played. They were completely frustrated. It's hard to make out the range of attacks, models can completely block out the vision of the players, "why don't shurikans do anything?", "Why can't I control the camera?", "Why are throws so slow?", "So there are no chains, just movement punishes?","Why can't I break those boxes with attacks?","Ring out? We weren't even close to the edge!".

Everyone thought it was very pretty, played a round, then smiled and either went back to Marvel at once side of the bar, or joined in the mob SimCity game going on. The game simply doesn't have legs. Period. It's too random for people who have no investment to the series to enjoy. And that, as I've said in the past, is heartbreaking.

I think I'm gonna treat today as a cheat day at the gym in order to go home and play some more so I can make a video review.

Just like in Gens, he has a long dismount time out of his combo. So he'll get punished by Neji's or Minatos or Sasukes.

All of the sasuke's may be levels of magnitude more broken than the rest of the cast, I have to play around with them more.

Ugh, Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke, SO MANY SASUKES ONLINE!

I've seen about 23 Sasukes, and only 1 Naruto so far. Ridiculous. Equally across Player matches and Ranked matches.

They all seem to employ the same exact strategies too. It's like fighting the same player over and over, but there were 23 different PSN names.

Sasuke is awesome, man.

Just learned what Tilt was. Tried out Minato's Tilt. I am the mutha fuckin' Yellow Flash!

Tell me what it is, then. I've read about tilt combos, where you tilt then hit O a bunch afterwards. I've seen a video with Tobi where you tilt right before an attack and the attack passes through him. Are they the same thing?

And the directional combos, I usually just hold up, down, or forward at some random point during the combo, and the combo comes out in that direction. Is that DIFFERENT from a tilt combo?

Just got it today.

1st: I havo do a software update? Well, okay.

2nd: And now install....of course.

3rd: And a Day 1 patch too?! Good grief.

Enjoyed most of what I played so far. Stopped after the Kage Summit chapter. The "Dynasty Warriors" segme with Sasuke was more fun than I thought it was going to be.

There was some massive slowdown during the fight with Gaara though. I hope there isn't anymore of that still to come.

How do you tilt?
To tilt, you move the left stick in a direction and then let go, leaving the stick to center itself. When it does this, you press the O button (B for 360) and then your character will perform a tilt. I just watched this video to learn the ropes.

Yes I believe so. Every character has a different tilt. Because of that, the tilt may require more than one button press to fully perform the action. Like, with Orochimaru's tilt, he goes all snake-like and slithers all up in yo face for an attack, and if you press the button multiple times, he'll repeat the action. For Minato, you start the tilt with a single button press, and he throws a kunai at the enemy. Once the kunai have reached the enemy, you press the button again to transport to that location.

I don't think those are tilt combos. I'm still learning the basics, but I think tilt combos involve canceling, like in this video.

Ah thank you! I kept seeing tilt in the moves list and couldn't figure out what to do at all.

Ugh, Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke, SO MANY SASUKES ONLINE!

I feel you, it was the same thing with Storm 2\Generations.

Give it a week or two, it'll be just a bit better. ;)

I had fun with all these Sasukes in Storm 2, papercutting them to death with my Konan. :D

BEAUTIFUL.

I saw way more Narutos the last two games lol.

Which Sauce seems to be the popular choice these days? Crazy eyes?

Sasukes Blaze Release Jutsu is extremely OP that's why. But I'll stick with Darui or Edo Nagato. Their instant awakenings are amazing. War Tenten's awakening is amazing too.

Whoever's bright idea it was to not recharge your health outside of combat should be FIRED. There is no point in it, all it does is put more weight on yet another system that shouldn't even be in the game.

This is stupid.

Yeah it bothered me too. Thankfully they throw a ton of money at you so I just loaded up on ointments and those items that increase your attack and give you a full bar of health for the next match (I forget the name of the item).

Just use the Hero weapons instead of the Legend ones, like a true chump.

Just use a Bento Box. Full Health + A power up, all in one!

And for the record, I don't mind this feature. I never like the "go through a series of battles, start each one with full health" mechanic in games like this. If such happens in an anime, the "wear and tear" on the character is totally taken into account. In this game, being at low health, weak enough to start a new CPU fight with a game-opening Ult Jutsu is 100% hot blooded anime approved.

The only bento's I've used are the ones the game gave me, and buying more is super cheap, overall. (Unlike those Ninja info cards... oy.)

I can agree with most of the complaints here about the SP exploration lack-of-importance and fight system oddities, however. I do have to say I miss the Exploration aspects of Ubisoft's Path of Ninja series... they really, REALLY did the world much more justice, though CyberConnect's presentation, graphics, and overall gameplay is much more dynamic. If they could have taken the best of both series, and merged them, we'd have had one very, VERY excellent anime-game series...

----

Just Beat Chapter 4 myself. What a grand story. I actually really liked what I watched, and, having not seen any of this part of the story in anime (and only part of it, secondhand, though my brother, who reads the manga), I'm actually quite happy to see Naruto grow as a character so well!

Also, I'm pretty impressed with the English Voicework in this game. The actors seems to be digging into a heavier variety of emotions than they normally go into in the 100s of games they voice, it's nice to hear a Yuri Lowenthal that I don't wanna smack for being Ben 10...

Baby Naruto has a huge head.

Also, I didn't know about the Bento Box's until just now, the game doesn't tell you about them at all. For the most part, I agree with you as far as moving to the next battle with the same health, but when it starts you with just enough health to sustain 1 hit and the enemy is using awakenings, it's REALLY troublesome.

But, in that same fight, I found out that you can win matches using poison, which is INCREDIBLY stupid.

Also yes, Chapter 4's execution is done very well, even though there's almost no interaction. Some of this stuff is fine as a movie. I kinda wish the shift in directorial control meant some more drastic shifts in scope when it comes to what's happening. The opening prospective with Minato and the 9 tails is done really well, I want more of that. It's been pretty sad that most of the cutscene stuff is basically 1-1 from the anime. Creative license is a great thing and we already know that CC2 knows how to make some amazing stuff.

I'm on the fence.

I'm used to / don't mind the "carry over damage" mechanic, but I dislike them not refilling my tools after I've used them especially since I have more. Ugh.

Baby Naruto for Playable character with Headbutt Ougi!

They tell you of Bento's when you entire the appropriate item shops, and during the loading screens. It kinda annoyed me, actually, because they tell you about stuff after you've been through an hour of game, and could have well used it all personally (by mistake) by then...

The only reason I don't mind death by poison, is because this means Ino can get you with Chakra Shurikens (which poison), and then turtle out much stronger opponents, haha. It's not a fighting game friendly tactic, but it sure as heck is a Ninja-worthy tactic. Death by sneaky poison!

Minato & The Third's fight + story mix does seem to be the best of the game, so far. While I don't personally mind the game going full-anime story every once in a while, I do think it hurts the "gameplay" nature of the overall product. Even just placing some QTE's within the cinematics would have helped at some points... and given us an excuse for a few "bad end" alt scenes....

I'm on the fence.

Recently playing Pokemon Black and White 2, I'm surprised at how they tell you of EVERYTHING! "You just used your last pokeball." "This is your final ___!" "Do you want to trade the item in hand between characters, choose a new item from the default list, or drop the item back into inventory?"

Naruto here would probably flow better if it was so crazy-considerate. "You're running low on health? Would you like to use a Bento Box?" "A long story segement is coming up (45 minutes). Do you have the time to watch?" "You used your last equipped exploding Kunai. Would you like to equip the same item, a new item, or call a peddler to obtain more?"

Not many games are that considerate, but it would help this SP portion be a lot easier to deal with.

Maybe its cause Im still early and havent watched the anime in years but Im actually happy with the cutscenes. Its nice seeing these manga scenes animated and voiced in English (Yes, I like the dub, sue me).

Boy oh BOY the QTE part of the Naruto/Sasuke fight was goddamned amazing. More of that, please and thank you.

I'm actually enjoying this a bit more now since Chapter 4.

although I gotta say, there's been a lot of wasted potential :( but that happened in the manga too, so >_>

Finally got the statue edition and starting it up, looks like easy trophies I guess and awesome musics as usual.

I cant wait for viz to catch up and dub the anime corresponding to the op in it, looked so epic.

I've been loving the game. My favorite PS3 Naruto game is still the first one. The combat was fast and sogood.gif; plus running around the open world was fun.

Been playing with Darui, love his moveset. They should get rid of instant awakening, against some characters awakened dominates way too hard.

Holy crap, Naruto vs. Sasuke rematch was amazing.

It's not as good as the one in Storm 2. The entire game seems to really overuse the flashback vinetting during boss fights. In Storm 2, it was awesome because it happened once. In Storm 3, it's almost every boss fight; it loses it's charm quickly.

And man, these dynasty warriors boss fights, the console can't keep up. We're dropping into single digit frame rates with some of these things

Edit: Holy shit dude, the last chapter is garbage. Nothing about this is okay. I can't even see the screen most of the time!

First of all how do you people go up against madara in online battles? That goddamn susano is a bitch attacking you from far range and I end up subbing to death....

Second..How do you battle people who mash B so quick and instant chakra dash at you ending your substitutions so quick??? My support can only help for so long..I got rocked by a Tobi with the rinnegan doing me like this.

try not to sub so much. The main thing you and your opponent are trying to do in online battles are depleting the others' sub bar. If you think the total amount of damage from a combo or jutsu isn't worth a sub, just take it. Blocking can take a lot of attacks so use it if you can.

I can't really help you with your first question since I've only played a couple of Madara's but for your second, I am one of those guys haha. After you sub, try chakra dashing towards your opponent to cancel their rush, chakra dash away from them to recover chakra/support bar, or (this is what I usually do) try using your supports to help knock your opponent back so they never get the opportunity to rush you.

I am hesitant to buy this game because I love fighting games and become overly critical of anime fan service fighting games when the mechanics end up being mashy and super imbalanced.

That said, how is Gaara in this game?
I liked Shino in the last game, but I couldn't continue to play it.

Chapter 4 was a tearjerker, very well done, though yeah Im starting to see the lengthy cutscene criticism. That was almost all cutscene aside from the boss fight (which was pretty cool)

How many characters are available from the beginning? I'm interested in this game but will play only multiplayer and don't want to play the story line. Is there a way to unlock the characters without playing the story? (maybe importing another player save?)

I don't know of the game is worth it on multiplayer alone. I did get an unlock for importing a Generations save, but I didn't check what it was.

I just finished the final fight and I was really disappointed to see the story end there. I wanted to see something beyond the current manga.

I always chose legendary because it sounded like the DBZ choice. Be a 'Hero' and play it safe or be a 'Legend' and beat everyone you possibly can by yourself. I'm kicking myself after reading that the hero items might also have some healing properties. I must have replayed the first Biju fight like 6 times.

Ever wonder why the storm series never got 4 player mode?

The Last mission is the perfect reason why. This is some clumsy shit.

If you are a fan of traditional fighting games, you will not like this game's multiplayer. Try the nuns:Gen demo and if you like that, you should consider this game.

Alright, single player campaign complete. Just under 9 hours, most of that was static cutscenes, the single player wasn't nearly as good as Storm 2's. That final battle was nice and hotblooded though.

Edit: I don't want to play this game any more. The multiplayer is still COMPLETELY broken. There's no point in ever playing against human characters because the systems simply don't work well enough.

Bottomline: The singleplayer isn't as good as Storm 2 and is only marginally better than Storm:GEN, and the multiplayer is complete garbage, so yeah. Don't buy this.

Yeah you can farm Ryo pretty easily and that unlocks characters. I unlocked all the characters in under an hour while playing free battle.
