One month from today: BioShock Infinite

I rarely pre-order but if they just came out and said "free copy of xcom with pre-order" I would have done it already.

I mean it's a risk. The game could suck. I agree with Stronghammer22. I think if they actually just put pre-order bonuses in there it would do them more good. The potential carrot as opposed to guaranteed carrot is holding me back!

LOL, bad trailer. Some of the animations look like the animatronics from Pirates of the Caribbean, with "badass" American music backing random explosions.

No more trailers for me

That was meant to appeal to the dudebro crowed. Got to hit that market.

Not to my tastes, but all other trailers were, so I'm not really concerned.

I am sure as hell no 'dudebro' and I thought the trailer was great. The world looks gorgeous, feels alive and the game ultimately looks fun, which is kind of the point. I think the trailer got all that across rather well.

Yo watch it with that "f" word, son.

Game should be called Bro-ioShock

EDIT: Man, these trailers keep getting worse and worse. Strangely animated doll-like characters, constant noise and explosions... Here's hoping the game, in the context of actual play, comes off more cohesive.

Those have always been there and yeah, considering you're making shit happen in Columbia, that's going to be there. They have shown a lot of low tempo moments though. And it did the job of being marketed to a larger audience.

that last trailer was a little too much for me, a lot of noise and explosions and things going off everywhere. I hope we get more subdued moments in the game like we have seen in some of the gameplay sections.

either way I'm still so hyped!

Wish they'd release a PC benchmark I could run to see how this runs on my PC. :-\ Can't preorder on Steam until I get a sense of whether it works as well as I'd hope.

There will be a benchmark...

...as an in-game option. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time a developer/publisher released a standalone benchmark tool. Capcom with RE5, maybe? That was a good few years ago now.

Eh, I should just get it on Steam. I'd imagine my nVidia GeForce GTX 560M(2GB), 8GB RAM, etc, is still more powerful than my PS3, so optimized to my specs or not, I'd imagine it'd have more power to play with than the PS3 version.

Well, Irrational did say that it would be a more action packed trailer, so it's not like they didn't warn you.

You are telling me that the original bioshock was not full of action?

Capcom just released an RE6 benchmark last month. But yeah I get what you're saying about stand-alone benchmarks being scarce.

I think he means it's more that the original BioShock was also full of atmosphere. Hopefully this one will be too, even if every trailer since the 2011 demo hasn't show much in that regard.

A couple of sections appeared to me to look like the first time Booker sees Columbia.

Ah cool. Gonna pass on watching the trailer I think.

Workin on it. We know a bunch of fans want a big version of this. ;D

Awesome. Great image that deserves to be a wallpaper.

Also, isn't it odd that this game is out in 13 days and we still (obviously) don't know why the game is called Infinite? To me that alludes
to time travel being a big part of the game
, but nothing so far has gave me the impression that this will be the case. I guess that is where the twist might come in.

god that trailer was so good. really hope we haven't seen too much, then i remember little bits that have been described but i've still yet to see
like the order of the raven
.

interesting how little we've seen of the songbird recently.

New Levine interview thanks to Sn4ke:

http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2013/03/14/bioshock-infinites-ken-levine-on-creating-compelling-narrative-companions-what-makes-a-game-memorable/

"Xcom and Civilization are very powerful games for me, because the narrative is so implicit in the game system. That’s probably odd for someone like me, because I tend to write very detailed narratives. So those games tend to be meaningful to me because I can play them over and over again. I guess one of the problems is that there aren’t a lot of people making games like this. You have the Deus Ex guys, the Dishonored guys and us, really, making these kinds of games. I love playing those kinds of games because I get to explore the world, but they’re so rare it’s tough. They don’t really exist as a genre because there are so few of them".\

On Liz:

"We had several principles we went with. One is that you have to connect to her narratively as a character. The second was that we didn’t want her to replicate your skillset – we didn’t want her to steal kills from you. Because then why aren’t you just doing that? We want her doing different things [to you]. Then applying a whole different level, she can expand the gameplay experience, not just parallel it. If she was parallel then why was she there? We wanted her to be engaging in the environment, in the way that she was a stranger to that place as well. All those elements were really critical. But having her be your partner was the most important thing. You don’t need help shooting people – [you’re] really good at it. You don’t need help riding the Skylines. She does her own things: picking locks, cracking codes and all these things that are helpful to you. Noticing and calling out enemies that you literally can’t see, [that are] behind you or something. We really focused on making her something quite different from you."

On the lack of multiplayer and cutting stuff out:

"We were very careful never to say there was multiplayer in the game. It was a little frustrating for us to say multiplayer has been cut when we never announced it in the first place. The reason we did that… there’s always an advantage, and now it’s going to [be discussed] because it got attention. We didn’t want to talk about anything regarding that because we weren’t sure about it, in the same way we weren’t sure about a million things. When you see the art book when it comes out, you’ll see a million characters that were cut, a million levels that were changed, ideas for weapons were thrown out. It’s just part of the process, and we’re fortunate as a company to be able to do that kind of stuff. We aren’t going to put something in the box we don’t feel is at the quality level of the rest of the game. We never got to that point, and it was hard. We all knew going in that at Irrational, everything you work on, if the rest of the team don’t feel it’s going to work as part of a package then it’s not going to make it."

Hmm

Decisions, decisions. PC or PS3. Got them both pre-ordered. I ended up double dipping on Tomb Raider, but I'm not sure I can justify that again.

I know the "obvious" answer is get the PC version since my PC rig is high spec, but I'm kinda in the groove of playing my PS3 again.

I don't know what that means. When you have a capable PC is it possible to get in the groove of playing 24fps and sub HD (or barely HD) games again?

I agree with Derrick here.

Hook up a sixaxis controller if you are feeling the PS3.

I personally cant go back to consoles anymore.

This must be really annoying to continuously talk about.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Edit: I may have to look more into it, but I find Bucking Bronco and Undertow a bit too similar, one lifting a bunch of guys and the other only tripping up/pulling one. It would be one thing if Undertow was more like TK, but that's the Return to Sender vigor. The only benefit of Undertow I see [currently] is combining it with Shock Jockey.

Bucking Bronco
Blasts enemies and objects in front of Booker, levitating them in the air for a period of time, and allowing Booker to damage them without resistance. This is the first Vigor Booker DeWitt acquires in the Hall of Heroes.

Undertow
Allows Booker to manipulate a tendril of water. Its primary use lets Booker push enemies back if they get too close. Additionally, it can be used to pull faraway enemies towards Booker.

Btw. Where can i read something about the "Return to Sender" vigor? I don't think i've seen or heard of this one yet.

I know the differences, it just seems that Undertow is a bit of a step back from Bucking Bronco, except maybe with those like the Handyman.

Return to Sender is in the new trailer (against the Patriot) and was shown in the first footage of Bioshock Infinite.
It's pretty much TK.

Edit: That screencap you posted in the "False Shepard" trailer discussion, where you thought it was Devil's Kiss being used, is Return to Sender. PC Gamer I believe mentioned it in their Infinite cover issue, though I'm not sure if that article is up on their web page.

I hope there are calm moments in the game. Or just a well narrative. I don't really like watching these trailers, to be honest. And I'm still completely hyped.

So then there must be more than
8
Vigors in the game?

Lol, Undertow is second to nothing. You'll see. You have to remember how vertical Columbia is. Undertow allows you to push AIs over the sides of airships, the city itself, off of skylines. And when upgraded, its grab function lets you lasso multiple AIs at once and pull them where you want (e.g. into a trap you've set, in front of a Tear you intend to have Liz open, in front of a ledge where you can then use the Push function). Also great when youre facing a long range foe and running with a short range loadout.
