EA censors its own support number on its forums

I know you aren't, but every time I read one of your posts about Sim City, I'm genuinely surprised you aren't paid to do this.
Don't want to blame anyone but people get paid to do this and GAF is probably full of them.

This isn't surprising. EA censors their community all the time. They are not as bad as North Korea but Kim Jong Un would be proud.

I'd be avoiding calls too if a bunch of uninformed redditors kept calling me trying to get their money back because they don't understand the difference between DRM and an online game.

1. It is DRM, the server does nothing the local PC can not.
2. It does not matter if it is DRM or not, a game not working properly is a game not working properly and is grounds for a refund.

There are 47% of gamers who feel entitled to accurate populations, to functional AI, to stable servers, to you name it. And they will bitch no matter what. So EA's job is not to worry about those people. EA will never convince them to take personal care and responsibility for their purchases.

It really is unfortunate the turn EA made mid gen. They were releasing new IP's like Dead Space and Mirrors Edge and then BOOM, they became more evil than Activision. The games didn't sell as they had hoped so they go full on Dr.Evil.

EA Studios found using rat milk to feed the children in its daycare...

Most companies don't even offer daycare. That alone means the whole 'worst company' thing is a total joke.

The rats probably came from Amazon. Lets wait till we get the whole story before deciding who to blame.

Just teasing ya!

This is a myth. EA have always been more consumer hostile than Activision.

Imagine if at your work, your company fucked up, and its response was to refuse to talk to your customer. Be it a business, person, or organization.

You think they'd continue being your customer?

Boycott EA. I don't care if they make a game you like: It's not worth it to be spit on like this. You gave them your money, they gave you a defecitve product, and now they're telling you to go away and not ask questions.

Guys do you remember playing sports games in the 90's, EA logo pops up and says "EA , its in the game" ... and you felt no hate?

So crazy how shit has changed.

Well, I've been trying to have more faith in them seeing as how terrible Activision is. They keep mocking that faith. They have done more horrible shit in the last few months than I can remember Activision doing in the last year. Absolutely terrible company

EDIT: Riggs got it right.

Was talking about this with my friends the other night, everything was chill. EA was just a company, they published Madden, Road Rash, and tons of other shit I loved. Now I see the logo and I just facepalm. Considering not even getting BF4 at this point, not sure 100% I am a huge BF fan.

Worse for me, I'm a huge Sims fan (and SimCity) so seeing Maxis dragged down like this is really disappointing. And by dragged down, I mean shot the horse in the back of the head that was hitched to the wagon.

Can't wait to see how EA will ruin Battlefield 4.

You have to micro transaction bullets.

Road Rash, FIFA, Desert Strike? they were rad, generation defining games. EA was on top of their game... that was 20 years ago. Fast forward now and they have shuttered countless studios and now nickle and dime at every possible turn.

Here is the list of studios EA has acquired, have a look at the money spent on two in particular, Popcap and JAMDAT.... WTF. No wonder they have to do grubby shit to get by. They are punishing the consumer for their terrible acquisitions.

Ya I really feel bad for the folks at Maxis, the people who know there are problems but have absolutely no power to fix them. I know Maxis kind of 'is' EA at this point, but I am sure there are still some people there who realize certain things could be changed but they just have no power to do anything. That must be a suck ass feeling.

I know their games since the early 80s and they were the best gaming publisher for me back then. "One on One", "Seven Cities of Gold", "Archon", "M.U.L.E.". Oh, the memories.

And then they went unmitigated evil.

"I try very hard to be a good man, but sometimes something inside me tries a little harder" - That evil dude from Terriers.

The way I remember it:
- early 90s (snes gen) they were the guys who made these huge Genesis cartridges and 9 times out of 10, these big carts held good games.
- late 90s-early 00s (ps1 gen) they fucked Westwood and Origin, I hated them for it. But they did MoH and they were part of Square Electronic Arts. So they were okayish.
- PS2 gen: they were essentially reviled assholes, because they closed studios and were uber derivative. Which funnily enough describes 90% of current pubs.
- early this gen, we had some kind of Renaissance, embodied by Mirror's Edge, with new IPs being developed and not too many stories of depressed employees.
- this changed later in the gen when they somehow felt the innovations the market was looking forward to were the kinds that could fuck the consumer as hard as possible.

So yeah, it's been a roller coaster.

Awesome post, that really sums a lot of it up. Wish my memory was that good lol.

I remember that brief period. It seemed like Activision had claimed the thrown of "most hated" for a while there even, but they've slowly quieted down while EA has been going balls-to-the-wall in terms of being complete and utter chodes.

I'm not certain how any self-respecting gamer can continue to support EA. It's not like we have a shortage of games and companies elsewhere to support.
Where's the harm in letting them bleed until they've EARNED back the trust of gamers?

That isn't the only headline EA is making today.

From GameSpot.com

I don't think I've ever seen an American company be this hostile and contemptuous towards its customers since I first read about the Ford Pinto...

This analogy is just silly.

Before that, EA chief operating officer Peter Moore said he believes microtransactions will be in every game in the next five to ten years. He likened the business model to a clothing store like The Gap.

"It's free to me to walk into The Gap in my local shopping mall. They don't charge me to walk in there," he said at the time. "I can walk into The Gap, enjoy the music, look at the jeans and what have you, but if I want to buy something I have to pay for it."

A somewhat correct, or true analogy would be; when you bought a clothing store in the past, it came fully stocked with clothes, music and what have you, but nowadays you can just rent the storage space, and you'll have to purchase all the clothes, music and what have you.

Meaning, the game is just a hollow shell.

Despite all his asshole quotes and posturing over the years, right now, Kotick only looks like an amateur Riccitello cosplayer.

That's the thing: they need you way more than you need them. So yeah, a lot of us have this compulsion to play anything that is released and sounds halfway decent but honestly, I can't say I miss EA. I think their last game I bought was Crysis 2 last summer when it came back on steam.

Tell me that article on gamasutra is a satire of developers using the phrase 'entitlement' and not a satire mocking the 'entitled' gamer...
I refuse to give them a click to find out.

@ any dev who thinks gamers are entitled: It is the other way around my dear friend.
You factory producing a game with all the gambling mechanics/carrots and all other base instinct tickling tricks in the book, then spending more on marketing than on QA does not entitle you to a single sale.
You live, eat and breathe by the grace of the consumer's goodwill and unless you learn how to respect them and cater to their needs, standards and expectations you will eventually be spat out and left to die like many before you.

Manipulation will not get you far in the long run, so I hope you all have a plan to get out while the getting is good.
If your approach is to lower the bar for everyone rather than to try to climb above it then you deserve every cent of debt you will inevitably be in.

Well, there is FIFA. Yes, I'm a weak man. But I have to try to stay hard. (No problem with all of this SC thuggery.)
