I really hope it comes out. All the modding possibilities!

This isn't to pick on you specifically, but it seems to me like every game that comes out on PC comes with the expectation that it will be modded. This is not always true. I was reading some thread last night that mentioned Assassin's Creed, and someone talked about wanting a mod where they play Haytham through the entire game.

Assuming Halo 3 comes, and has a better version of Forge, we might get some cool maps. But that's really about as far as it's likely to go.

Someone will probably come up with an FOV fix for it, which will be nice.

Well, it'd be stupid for Microsoft not to implement modding. Modding's the reason for the success of many PC games, like Minecraft, or any Valve game.

Meh, I played this already. Wish it was Halo 4
hard to get excited for old games

Well its not just that

  • Further proof of GFWL dying.
  • Could be a sign of things to come, Microsoft has a great catalog of PC franchises that aren't available for download.
  • Modern Halo game coming to PC, Halo 2 was somewhat broken, Halo 1 is very old and has poor netcode.
  • Halo is awesome, would be great with M/KB, Workshop, dedicated servers, no mouse acceleration

And how can't you get excited for older games? I play so many classics on old consoles and PC.

a) you definitely didn't search hard enough, because there were always customs running Tombstone or Halo 3 maps.
b) sapien and guerrilla were incredibly difficult to use, assuming they didn't randomly crash your system

Halo 2 vista was built with great modding support in mind, expanded upon the tools included with the Halo 1 PC modkit, with people from the H1 mod community brought on to the team to consult with how to make them better. But then MS came in at the end of development and had them strip almost everything from the tools, to the point that there was almost no point in even bothering to say H2V supported modding. This killed the halo modding community and several sites that sprung up around it. There was even a rather lengthy open letter drawn up around this, as well as all the other issues the port had

And somehow MS will support it this time?

Uh, it came and has been deployed on all Valve games on PS3 since the launch of those games.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people were expecting some non-Valve games to use Steamworks integration as well. Valve even said they were hopeful this would happen.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people were expecting other games to use Steamworks integration as well. Valve even said they were hopeful this would happen.

They would need publisher support, and not many would be behind that if people would 'double dip' on both console and PC.

It would further Valve's agenda, but not the publishers.

This means nothing if I can't change the FOV. It's fucking sickening in H3 on Xbox (expected), playing with that same FOV at my desk would make me puke my fucking innards out.

I really hope it gets released. It's one of my favorite games of all time thanks to the co-op and the colorful design.

Even if they don't have one, will probably be able to fix through a .ini file.

I can't remember many games where it was straight up impossible to some way fix the FOV. I know there are probably some examples, but I can't think of many.

But don't most people double dip so they can play with their friends who are on another platform? I would think having that cross-platform friends list built in would only encourage those folks to double dip.

Anyways, I was more so just commenting on how certain people overestimated the impact that Steamworks on PS3 would have.

Yes, but the way Steamworks operates is buy it on one platform and you get it on PC.

The publishers would end up losing potential sales if people didn't have to double dip anymore to play with their friends.

That would affect their bottom line, and public corporations generally don't do things like that.

I never figured out how to change it in Legendary. But you're right, for the most part binding it to a key or something works most of the time

I figured you'd list Aoe and RoN in there... I mean come on these are ancient and we've all played the shit out of them. MS doesn't really have anything worthy that isn't a decade or two old except for the newer 360 exclusives (Halo 3+, Gears 2+, Forza series). I had hope that Win 8 would jolt their PC game support a bit but it's the same.

Have Valve made a PS3 SDK for steamworks available? Although I don't really see any benefit to it from a third party dev/publisher perspective.

I mean Halo 3 is already 6 years old, I read a thread the other day on GAF about how 'Uncharted 2 holds up surprisingly well!'

Uncharted 2 came out in late 2009...

But that was just Valve being Valve. I don't think they would mandate that to third parties.

Well that's what Steamworks is though.

It’s free: There’s no charge for bandwidth, updating, or activation of copies at retail or from third-party digital distributors.

http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/retailsupport.php

So you see that is why I have been saying that Publishers could be potentially losing out on extra sales, affecting their bottom line. There would be no advantage to them using this system.

I had a dream last night that I was playing in a server like this, on Construct, with an Occulus Rift. It's been the only thing on my mind all day...
