Gears of War Judgement |OT| Brothers from the beginning, Bros till the end

I don't care what anyone says, smoke knockdowns were awesome. Not because they helped the gameplay in any way, but because of all the hilarious situations they created. So many glitches
KuGsj.gif

sliding slowly down 10 steps for 15 seconds was funny but so annoying.

I personally thought that with some big fixes those smoke knockdowns could have worked, but it was a real mess at the beginning.

I think the addition of TDM in Gears 3 was the result of so many Guardian leaders smoking themselves into that glitch spot in the two shacks on River where you couldn't be hit. Infinte TDM.
Well you had kungfu flips as well. :p Damn, I'm remembering so much stuff. Gears 2 was a hilarious game.

Same shit on Hail. But sometimes Epic actually used the banhammer, which was good. If you were caught glitching, it was bye-bye!

Just started playing single player I thought epic said they improved on the graphics in my opinion the graphics in gears 3 looked much better and it all feels just downright generic like a bad expansion pack.

I thought that the lighting did look better compared to Gears 3.

Gears 3 does look better. It's much more sharp and vibrant, IMO. Judgment is a bit rough around the edges, with some pretty good lighting.

Give me execution/warzone,some symetrical maps even from previous Gears games and locust in multiplayer and we have a winner.
I really love this game, shotty is amazing, movement is amazing.
Also in domination mode these three points A,B,C should be marked on hud.Constantly looking around what points are taken is tiresome.

NO ONE wanted Locust removed from MP, I repeat NO ONE.
What a truly mind-boggling decision to remove them. I'll never understand it.

And randomly: I was playing through campaign when I ran into a few berzerkers. Luckily there was a scorcher lying around that I was able to use, but it soon ran out of juice, leading me to scour the area trying to find another one while the allied AI kept the big girls busy. I had a flame auto-turret there for a little while too, but one of the zerkers rammed it and flattened it. After about 5 minutes of running around checking every nook and cranny I lucked on to an Onyx ammo box, which saved the day. But if I ran out of ammo again would I be utterly screwed? Do the ammo boxes respawn? I also noticed in a later level that Paduck (sp?) was carrying a scorcher as primary, but I never noticed the berzerkers flamed up unless I was doing it. Is this a serious oversight or bug? Or does the game have mechanisms to help players deal with berzerkers when they run out of ammo?

I'm still loving the hell out of this campaign. Pure Gears battle mayhem.

When I did that section there were 2 locuts wearing scorcher packs, and after that ammo ran out I ran around and there were 2 more scorchers leaning against boxes on the ground floor. That plus the turrets and grenades was enough to take them out, but I am also curious what would have happened if all the ammo ran out.

Finally got to play a bit of overrun myself yesterday and I do like the changes they made overall but hate the fact that weapons are locked to classes and you can't really customize the loadouts (at least that I was able to see or maybe it will be un-lockable later). I understand making it easy for new people to figure out but they went too far with it imo.

the more I play campaign the more it feels like a trial and error type situation where a lot of the strategy comes from picking the right weapons before heading into battle. even more so with the Declassified options.

Yeah, they give you a bottomless box of standard ammo, but I'm not sure if the onyx ammo boxes (that you need to replenish scorcher ammo) respawn or if yeah, you're just screwed.

This is my first run-through, on hardcore, and without activating any declassified challenges, and I've run lancer/gnasher 95% of the time. Outside of berzerkers and one sniper heavy section (that provided precision weapons and ammo), that basic loadout has been just fine.

Cliff meant well with Gears 2...and I give him credit for making Gears 3 as polished as it was and making up for his mistakes.

Yeah, Gears 1 holds a lot of special memories for me, but Gears 2 does as well, despite the jankiness and ridiculous attempts to turn it into a full fledged cover shooter.

I don't really agree with most of smik's post. I have not seen all that much of aimless running around and killing, acting like teamplay is dead, i.e. a map like Streets is very focused on holding the roof and side area where the torque spawns. I feel a lot of the map flow arguments are more towards the respawning part. When gears 3 added a traditional team deathmatch I recall reading a lot of similar things, once Execution is added and there will be no respaws it will become more vital to success. The maps themselves are very different from Gears norm but I don't immediately associate that as a bad thing.

The limited loadout has also been great to me. You have to commit to what you roll with, which is a huge deterrent to sawn off users. When I roll with the gnasher I am limiting the range I engage with, until I kill someone using a lancer/hammerburst first and pick it up. The auto ammo pickup is also very helpful to the fluidity of it all.

The removal of wall tagging is a godsend as even in 3 it is just a dumb idea.

On the negative side, yeah I could do without frag starts. The removal of Locust is very dumb, and the way they split so many of the skins under a paywall while having the ingame prizebox system is really annoying.

As for the skins themselves, a lot of them seem garish but this was pioneered by 3 already with moving rainbow guns and shit. It adds to a weird metagame I play where I go out of my way to fuck with people using some of the bigger offenders.

I do agree with PXG on those declassified ideas. If future games expand upon the idea those would add a shitton of value to the whole campaign.

The cutscenes sure are better in judgment. GOW 1-3 always had those Bink looking movies. PCF's are a lot cleaner and higher rez.
The game is a looker for 360 imo...but then again, the whole series has been.
Agreed. The Gears games are some of the best looking console games around.

But they used Bink here as well?!

Still, can't believe I'm playing this on +7-year old hardware.

It is for sure, I failed one mission completely from choosing a gnasher over a sniper style weapon.

It also comes down to what spawns when you start. I failed one section due to being overrun by Boomers. Next spawn it was those little fuckers. Did it no problem.

I don't understand this, and have never felt compelled to walk into a checkpoint with the "right" equipment. If I've got close quarters weaponry and there's a sniper I'll rush the position. If I can't reach their position there has always been precision weaponry provided. And even if not you can always mark the target so your allies will fire on them, or use grenades, smoke or medium ranged weapons.

Fighting berzerkers has been the only time I've felt ill equipped.

This is my main complaint about the campaign especially in any of the declassified parts that are linked to timers.

the second to last one probably the best example. 4 mins to kill the locust. First time I round I got shit loads of those Ravagers or whatever they are called, maybe hit half way point before I ran out of time. Second time I got boomers and grinders and a couple of Kantus and it was easy as shit, I had like 90 seconds left on the timer
.

Not just enemy types being randomly spawned, it's the power weapons too. There's one timed section where if a One Shot doesn't spawn instead of a Longshot I have no fucking idea how you'd beat the timer.

Just got the game. Popped it in and hopped straight into the special playlist - breechshots on domination.

Felt so intense. Love the speed and breechshots are really satisfying.

Now to try the campaign.

Yeah, it's pretty telling when the TDM mode of Judgment has the frenetic pace and clusterfuckery to go toe-to-toe with 90% of FFA modes in other shooters.

Judgment's FFA is just on a different level of insanity. I migrated to Gears to move away from that insanity; to move away from the hyper juvenile shit that is CoD et al. That being said, it's still nowhere near as bad as the aforementioned and it is still Gears, so even with all the balancing missteps, I adore what it is immensely.

On another note: I can't bring myself to two-piece. And not because I'm morally objected to it, but because I've been so condition by GoW3 to think that melee is basically useless 95% of the time. It's quite annoying. I don't like what it is one bit.

It's a bug. Happened to me, and there were just no scorchers; nor any other means to kill a Berzerker. After searching fruitlessly for 20 minutes (assuming the guns were there somewhere, or that there was an environmental puzzle to solve) I hit up Google, and discovered the scorchers should have spawned. Reloaded the checkpoint, and the scorchers showed up as they should have.

I agree that the campaign is magnificent. After a slow start during Baird's testimony things really picked up, and everything from Paduk's testimony onward has been gold.

Just started Aftermath. All the level design, added banter, none of the scoring - for me, this is perfect. Kind of a pity I can't switch off the scoring from Judgment and switch it on for Aftermath. I stand by the criticism that it kills the flow of the campaign, but I also feel it's an excellent addition to the package. It would be the ultimate New Game Plus mode.

Whoever wrote this game is pretty bad--I'm actually having a harder time enjoying the game because of the writing than the bite-sized missions (pacing is not good because of this) and the weird bugs that don't let me progress every once in a while.

Karen Traviss wasn't great, but she was good enough to do a lot of things right, and actually nail some emotional connections to things. If she'd been better at introducing characters and answering questions her characters verbally asked, Gears 3 would have had a significantly better script.

The current writer pulls cliches out of his/her ass, sets up no tension whatsoever, doesn't really let us relate to characters, and has stupid lines like "THE TRIPWIRE BOW? I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE

FUCK YOU COLE IF YOU NEVER SAW IT BEFORE HOW DID YOU KNOW WHAT IT WAS AND WHAT IT DID

My biggest complaint about the AI is that they seem to target me more than anyone else, then pursue me relentlessly, so I never really get much of a chance to fight back in certain situations. When I'm trying to take on the flying whatsits (I keep forgetting their names), it's like "LOL STEP ON TOP OF DOC THEN MURDERFUCK HIM!" The serapedes are on my tail no matter what I do, unless I leap over cover.

I'm playing Hardcore, but so far, I've been nailing three stars in all but two spots. Good to know it picks up with Paduk's testimony--I only played up until the start of his, so that's where I'm ready to play.

I think this game's scoring stuff would be a LOT better for New Game Plus. If you could maybe unlock Declassified stuff after you played it for the first time, and weren't worrying about scoring while you were playing the campaign the first time through, it might flow better and be more fun. As it is, I'm like "woah, I don't want to miss out on getting more points! Of course I'm going to do the Declassified thing!" so I'm running through maps I should probably take my time to explore and have fun with and stuff like that. I'm probably missing some really cool stuff.

This game is gonna be dead so fast. Jesus Christ......

What the fuck have they done to Gears? I'm basically done with MP for tonight. This game is so infuriatingly detached from what Gears should be.

Just sloppy, thoughtless design. I hope Cliff and the other higher ups at Epic were piss drunk off their asses from top shelf shit when approving these stupid changes.

Feels like Gears.
One match every shot connects and it's awesome.
Next match I am pumping 5 shots of Gnasher into someone and nothing.

Fun though.

Does anyone have any idea of the work split between EPIC and PCF? At first I thought PCF were responsible for most of it, but I've heard differing accounts since.

I have a Young Marcus and Web skin, looking for Anya or Alex Brand code and I'll trade both of my codes for one of those. Anyone out there interested?

I really love the streets map, always have fun games on it. So far the only one I'm not feeling that much is library, feels a little too large/confusing to navigate. Need to spend more time in it.

Also, I'm seeing a lot of the DLC player skins. Dammit people.

I played a bunch of overrun tonight, my god it is so good. Every match was right down to the wire. I really love how players who maybe arent the best at killing people can still contribute.

So general consensus is this game kind of sucks?

I thought the Overrun demo was okay.

I think this game is great. A different take for sure but I've adapted well to it.

I lost by 8 seconds in a game earlier.

Really enjoying the chaos of the mode as well.

Finished Judgments SP section. I thought it was good and the declassified stuff mixed up my approach to battles. Man, they weren't kidding about hardly any story beats. Very paper thin although that's not necessarily a bad thing. Your always right in the action.

Gonna do Aftermath tomorrow.

No, like I said above the campaign was pretty damn fun. Felt a lot more frantic than Gears 3. Overrun is also a really fun alternate to Horde.

The MP is a bit whack though. I'm having an ok time and it's funny to use the 1-2 gnasher deal but there are a lot of core problems.

Had store credit and broke down and bought this. This was gonna be the first Gears I didn't buy at launch but I gave in and scooped this up with the season pass. I really enjoyed all the games in the series and I'm in the minority of 2 being my fav campaign in the series. Since my opinions are pretty different from majority of the Gears fans I will probably have fun with this one.
